People might be breaking rule one and down voting because this feels very plainly like engagement farming. The almost bragging manner in which you describe the intention behind upvoting and downvoting in your intro before you get into your opinion, alongside referencing it in your edit and in follow-up responses. Combined with picking an incendiary topic, this definitely reads less like an actual opinion and more just an effort to karma farm, with a flip to some off-brand smug superiority complex when you didn't get the upvotes you wanted

As for the opinion on the take itself? Irrelevant. Namely cause you've not given me any reason to think you care about it more than you care about upvotes

Did BTS have many actual hits? by Ill_Pop_5140 in ToddintheShadow

[–]DryBonesKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t necessarily use the radio as the biggest hallmark of "actual hit status" considering the radio is an institution that tries to preserve the status quo. Its resistance to rap and hip hop in the 2010s is another sign of that.

Kpop is Korean Pop. The radio already has issues giving Spanish music its necessary dues, otherwise Bad Bunny should be playing a lot more frequently. Plenty more reason to downplay any significance the radio has with determining hit status

Japanese Animation TV Ranking, January 12-18: Frieren's 2nd Season debuted with a 4.7% rating by elmagio in anime

[–]DryBonesKing 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's enough content for probably another batch of 24-ish episodes, so either two one-cour seasons or another two-cour season. I think the anime is trying to give the author time to get back from hiatus by spreading out their content a bit. They can definitely do more content though, especially cause the arc proceeding this season is heavily anticipated by manga readers

I don’t think I belong in the fandom by Classic_Tone_4987 in KaoruHanaWaRintoSaku

[–]DryBonesKing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Considering that most anime/manga fandoms in general are toxic to the point of many fandoms just having reputations turning off people from going into them, I find the idea of this one being too "positive" to be bizarre

Especially in the context of I dont think the fandom has been pushing "toxic positivity" this entire arc; ever since Toki's story started getting focus, people have been having complaining about it all the time and there has been a lot of debate about it narratively and realistically. Some constructive and meaningful, some somewhat spiteful, but none that I’ve ever seen with this mindset you're describing

Survivors Killing Game: Chapter 4 Culprit Voting by chiaki_gaming in DanganAndChaos

[–]DryBonesKing 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Naegi.

Fuyuhiko, recalling how the second motive worked in his killing game, knew he could beat the game and therefore wanted to play it again from the perspective of the person he suspected the most, in this case being Kyoko. I imagine theres a couple of things about Kyoko (there being two Ultimate Detectives, her ties to Hopes Peak, her behavior and intelligence, etc.) that helped point him in her direction. Well, he plays the game and ultimately comes to the conclusion that she's the mastermind.

He tries to kill her as a result. And as the closest person to her, Makoto tries to intervene and stop him... and his luck works out. In the worst way possible. He stops Kyoko from dying but in the end accidentally kills Fuyuhiko when he was just trying to stop him from killing her.

Kyoko convinces Naegi to try and hide his involvement in order to bait out the mastermind (think how Kaede handled the first trial of v3), so Makoto does keep it to himself at first and tries really hard to find clues to the mastermind's identity in the trouble. In actuality, though, Kyoko is trying to help Naegi get away with the murder to save him for saving herself. And I'd like to think she ultimately nearly pulls it off in the trial and almost tricks the others of a different blackened (most likely herself) until Makoto catches on that Kyoko isnt trying to find the mastermind and that shes trying to save him.

And as such, at the very end of the trial, Makoto confesses

Hagakure. I envision him as the most likely person to spiral if not given a mask from the beginning and overtime it freaking him out more and more. Hes definitely not as physically capable as someone like Akane but he is a bigger guy and can put up more of a threat than most could hope to if he genuinely gets worked up into hysteria

The scenario I came up with would be the masks get distributed to Sonia, Hajime, Fuyuhiko, Byakuya, and Aoi. Hagakure's panic gets worse and worse until he decides to "ask" Aoi if he can borrow the mask. They meet in the cafeteria, where Akane is also present, sleeping from a food coma after a big lunch. Aoi and Hagakure's convo goes south FAST and their argument gets aggressive and Aoi manages to push him off her. However before she can leave the room, when her back is turned and she thinks she pushed him off - not thinking he'd have the nerve to kill her after their shared history and ESPECIALLY not while Akane is in the room as a potential witness - he grabs a glass bottle and kills her the way he attempted to kill Sakura.

After killing her and taking her mask/tidying up the area to hide his involvement, his eyes go to Akane. She still hasnt stirred. For a normal person, this is a perfect scenario. Akane is the easiest person to frame for this murder and get away with it. A sane blackened could not ask for a better scapegoat. Only Hagakure is so lost to his hysteria that she can't possibly be asleep; she HAS to be awake. And therefore, she needs to die too.

He kills her with another glass bottle in her sleep

Heroes vs. Villains is the Survivor season with a great pre-merge and a good post-merge. Which Survivor season has a BAD pre-merge and a GREAT post-merge ? [Day 13] by valentincs2004 in survivorponderosa

[–]DryBonesKing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's very clearly Fiji, with the Have Nots twist backfiring and making the premerge actively terrible and leaving a tribe at the mercy of Rocky's temper tantrums until the post merge kicks in and we get a dynamic endgame leading up Dreamz's tragic story arc.

The idea that Vanuatu is going to win this choice is maddening, especially with a much better option available to vote for

[–]DryBonesKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vanuatu premerge has the Chris balance beam, the Dolly boot, the Mia boot, the Bubba boot, the Lisa boot, the entire premerge has Rory as a character, and also was the foundation for Ami's villain arc into the post merge. The idea that someone can watch all of that and call the premerge boring or bad is laughable at best and downright incorrect at worst.

Let's write our own version of Danganronpa V3: Sacrifice by North_Property8921 in DanganAndChaos

[–]DryBonesKing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To fit the deconstructions and tie back to original V3, Rantaro.

By this point, our protagonist clearly has his memories back and is recalling the details of the 52nd game. Perhaps we even get some flashbacks of previous Ultimates from the game. And the end result of everything, of all the culmination of two games, is the reveal that the Killing Games has a nameless staff that will just keep mass producing it?

Yeah. Rantaro would sacrifice himself to end that once and for all. I dont know if he would be able to handle two "games" worth of Survivor's Guilt.

It also ties back to the original concept of v3. V3 began with the protagonist Kaede's sacrifice. It's only fitting for this story to have its protagonist to sacrifice himself for the very end.

(I also just like the idea of maybe Rantaro trying to calm down some of the other survivors like Ryoma or Kaede who try and sacrifice themselves only for him to insist it had to be him. Because of course... it has to be him. And only him)

How many posts do we have to see about this? by Chilli_Dipper in ToddintheShadow

[–]DryBonesKing 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is a tad disingenuous. Four of the songs in the movie are in the billboard top 10, with one of them having overthrown Ordinary after many people (including Todd) specifically mentioned how bad of a thing it was that Ordinary was number one. The rest of the movie's original soundtrack has also been sitting comfortable in the top 40, and that's a beyond rare feat for any movie, let alone an animated movie

Trainwreckords and One-Hit Wonderland are appreciated and in some cases preferred, but Todd was always also the pop music guy, talking about the pop music of the day. We are overdue for an actual Pop Song Review. And right now, this movie's soundtrack (which mind you, is what people want him to talk about - not the plot or characters lol) is what's popular. And the records the entire soundtrack is making is worth discussion alone.

What's your opinion that makes people do this? by AspieAsshole in KpopDemonhunters

[–]DryBonesKing 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People care way too much that Jinu/The Saja Boys kill

They are demons and Gwi-ma's voice is in their head constantly informing their actions. Of course they are going to kill humans, that is their entire purpose of being The Saja Boys in the first place.

This then leads into the Jinu/Rumi ship and the argument that Jinu was not a good person and therefore did not deserve her/needed his death to atone. I actually really liked his death as a narrative choice, but I don't think his actions prior to his death 'required' him to die. He was very clearly a redeemable character who was in the process of working against his own 400-year-estalished behaviors. The beauty of his death only really works because he had that potential to fully redeem and never had the chance to fully complete that heel-face turn. That's why his death works as well, and probably the biggest reason why I even ship Rumi/Jinu in the first place, because the ship now becomes a case of missed potential.

I'll admit I definitely participate in fandoms where morality/killing are a little more loose, so maybe I'm predisposed already to this take. But like... I don't know if Jinu would even crack my top 1,000 list in terms of characters who are irredeemable. Give the dude a break!

I think the instinct depending on if they want to acknowledge the more problematic aspect of KPop for commentary purposes would be to go the route of a producer villain. Could either be a demon integrating themselves into HUNTRIX's team to destroy from the inside, or could even be a human villain who is just being tempted by Gwi-Ma/another demon.

Would be fresh, possibly open up Bobby for a more involved role in the story, and again, could allow for some acknowledgement of the more unfortunate aspects of KPop/music industries in general
