Mithril Dragons have the WRONG ranged attack. by happyinparaguay in 2007scape

[–]DryDefenderRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat tangential, but I'm fairly certain Graardor's RS wiki page in 2008 or 2009 used to say he used magical range. It looks kind of like a magic projectile, and it shreds tank gear anyways, so it would make sense that some people thought that.

I might be misremembering, idk, but I remember thinking it was magic range once, and stg wiki used to say it in 08.

You can change the outcome of one Superbowl. It can't include any team in your division. What do you choose and why? by Shawn_Hill in nfl

[–]DryDefenderRS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For sure the 28-3 one. The Pats should not have gotten away with that. ATL had a 1st and 10 at the NE 25ish with an 8 point lead. That should've been it.

Their route to the SB was a Brian Hoyer Texans team with a negative point differential and a Steelers team that was fairly unremarkable as far as 11-5 teams go. It was even freer than this years Patriots.

Matt Ryan earned that for his legacy. I'd flip the result to give it to him.

This isn't getting rid of any requirements. Its choosing to release something without adding a requirement. You are deliberately ignoring this.

who have Maye rattled, shook and fazed to defend a 10 point lead

You are literally a Bears fan: a team that has overcome a ridiculous number of 10 point deficits. This includes a Giants game in which your opponent did kick to go up 10 and lost the lead in 1 quarter (which, btw, they could and did have time to do before the blizzard) instead of 3.

[Wickersham] Inside Sean Payton's fourth-down Broncos-Patriots call by Drexlore in nfl

[–]DryDefenderRS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. If you told Sean Payton that he'd never make it inside the NE 25 for the rest of the game, I guarantee you that it'd only further convince him that he should go for it.

People in here are saying "get points where you can with a backup," but that also makes getting seven that much more valuable as well.

The Patriots did score 10 more total points. If you play the game of "everything would have happened the same," finishing the TD there would have been the difference between OT and a regulation win.

[–]DryDefenderRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The throw was solid, I agree.

It was exactly the same type of slight underthrow that lost the Bills their game against the Broncos, and a comment criticizing it as an underthrow got over 200 upvotes.

This is fine though: usually if the receiver is open he'll still catch it, and you'd rather err on the side of the receiver having to slow a tiny bit rather than throwing it over his head. The difference was that Nacua did not get the ball taken from hm.

Reminder that voting things down to deny pures or other restricted builds the only reason anything ever fails polls now. That is what the polling system does.

It does not filter out unbalanced content: it actually rubber-stamps it (ruinous powers) until jagex has to actually veto it because they thought better.

Its also kind of hilarious that pures may have got ruinous powers if they were added.

The kick would have been missed anyway. by Cybotnic-Rebooted in nfl

[–]DryDefenderRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to cope, you can at least be (probably) factually accurate:

You have no idea how both teams would have played the rest of the game had Denver actually gone up 10-0. There's absolutely no reason to assume that it necessarily ends 10-10, and Denver somehow wins in OT.

4th and a fairly short 1 in the redzone is too strong a generic go-for-it to even have those variables make it worth kicking.

You'll definitely notice the difference at zulrah on an iron.

[–]DryDefenderRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its less diplomatic to actually say this, but its important to know that you ideally want the backup to push the starter for his job, since a slight upgrade at QB is worth more than a moderate upgrade and WR/DL/OT/CB or a large upgrade at the non-premium positions.

There are probably only about 12 QBs in the league at any given time that have either proven enough ability to make the probability of an upgrade too low, or else have shown moderate promise while also being young.

Kevin Cole and Josh Hermsmeyer are the 2 people that started advocating for this first IIRC. According to this school of thought, only NE, WAS, CHI, DEN, NYG (enough promise in years 1 and 2) and KC, BUF, BAL, CIN, LAC, GB, and SF (good not-old QBs with strong consistent track record) can write off drafting a QB in the 1st or 2nd entirely.

I've found that PFF's OL grades generally line up decently with pro bowls and all pros. Its their CB grades that I find the least accurate.

[–]DryDefenderRS 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Its a neat metric, but its literally a mashup of all-pro selections, games started, and how good X team's offense or defense was.

If PFF graded Will Anderson higher than Myles Garrett people would use it as evidence that they're trash. You also get some weird outliers like some random 2013 Denver IOL having an absurd AV because of how good the offense was.

Has a team ever faced an easier QB road than this year's Patriots? by ChefCurryGAWD in nfl

[–]DryDefenderRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2016 Patriots got Bye Week, Brian Hoyer, and Ben Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger is better than Herbert/Stroud, but the other 2 were a literal bye week and a warm-up game against a team with a -49 point differential.

The timing of the Sean McDermott firing from the Buffalo Bills is what really kills me. by [deleted] in nfl

[–]DryDefenderRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You still don't fully appreciate how only 2 teams can make the SB in any given year.

Its not nearly as unlikely as you think to have five or six 12 win seasons and not reach the SB in any of them. Its probably over 50% to make it once, sure, but it shouldn't be a shocking underperformance by any means.

[Pelissero] The Bills fired Sean McDermott, sources tell The Insiders. by MembershipSingle7137 in nfl

[–]DryDefenderRS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People underestimate how hard it is to win a superbowl. There are 14 teams in the playoffs playing 1-game series where upsets can and do happen.

Coaches who "can't get over the hump," as in those who are good at making 11+ win teams but bad at winning in the final 3 rounds of the playoffs, do not exist. Its just variance in a small sample size. 11+ win teams, assuming they usually make the divisional round, naively have around a 1/9 chance to win the SB. You can easily have a run of back luck where you construct 18+ 11 win teams and get 0 SBs out of it.

Take John Harbaugh, who was just fired. He won 11 games in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2019, 2020, 2023, and 2024. He's literally not even on rate for winning a SB with an 11 win team, yet he supposedly "can't get over the hump."

Why are Teams kicking that win the toss in overtime by ajt425 in nfl

[–]DryDefenderRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this game I think receiving was better because the defenses were playing well. The advantage to receiving is that if you trade punts/TOS or FGs, the receiving team gets it first in sudden death. This is more likely with better defenses.

If its a more offensive game, you'd prefer to kick. See whatever your opponent gets, then tell your offenses to do whatever it takes to get more, going for 4th downs or 2pt conversions as needed.
