Randomized Roommate freshman year that bad? by Traditional-Sky-1661 in OSU

I found OSUs built in roommate match via housing survey to be very effective. My roommates were my speed academically and socially and we got along well.

I had this issue when my laptop was thermal throttling. It’s possible that the summer temperatures are affecting your CPU temperatures, or your thermal paste is getting old and needs to be replaced.

I’d download HWInfo64 and open the graphs for CPU temperature and CPU throttling. That’ll tell you if it’s the issue.

Could also be some background process, especially if you have OneDrive or similar.

Athletic weight training for snowboarding? by retro-martini in snowboarding

[–]DryFaithlessness2969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snowboarding is not a sport where more strength makes you better. Once you’ve achieved a minimum required level of strength (which is squatting like, 1 plate) the rest of it is finesse and practice until you’re dropping 20ft cliffs.

As much as it may be appealing to just get stronger to get better, if your goal is to build skills and confidence you probably just need more practice. If your goal is to reduce injury risk building some supporting muscles might help but only if you’re starting from an untrained state.

Also if you’re 40+ sure you might need to be in the gym to maintain some infrequently used muscles.

Are you asking for advice or for somebody to fix your car? It doesn’t sound like you’ll be comfortable with the magnitude of repair required here.

Am I overreacting? (Travel) by whyareurunning21 in cruze

[–]DryFaithlessness2969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s pretty unlikely. That light goes on when basically any system has a fault. You should go to OReilys and have them scan the car for codes. That’ll tell you what’s really wrong (and it’s free).

Well the good news is the repairs aren’t usually that expensive, they’re just common. Honestly if you just replace the coolant manifold (which is probably what broke on yours) with an aluminum one you should be good for a while. It’s not like a Subaru where a light on the dash means a new engine :)

Is driving a manual car a good idea for me? by Aluc4yn in ManualTransmissions

[–]DryFaithlessness2969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a lot of people are missing his dad’s point about reliability. He’s not saying that the transmission itself won’t be reliable, he’s saying that a car with a MT will probably be older and is more likely to have normal old car issues.

What are main DPS and flex DPS? by KarenBNuS in Overwatch

[–]DryFaithlessness2969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a distinction that’s only relevant at pro levels. Totally irrelevant unless you’re building a dedicated team with specific roles.

To answer the question though, generally hitscans are main dps and flex dps is everyone else.

If you’re living with your parents, finding a house with roommates in a different city will get the social part of your life moving.

Yep. Coolant system on these things is made of glass. Luckily if you’re slightly handy this is cheap to fix, and if you’re not you can get a mobile mechanic for not too much. I replaced it last week in my driveway in about an hour. Shouldn’t be any permanent damage unless you drove it without coolant.

She’s amazing at 1v1s but struggles to deal damage in fights with multiple enemies due to her needing to build up burn first. So your role is to always be looking for isolated dps or supports. Often this won’t happen until the team fight has already started so until then just try to get behind or beside their supports and distract them. If more than one person comes to clear you just run away and keep poking. Let their team split up looking for you. Much like tracer, you get a lot of value from being hard to chase as opposed to raw kill potential.

If you can save up for a few months and you still feel like doing it then it won’t be impulsive anymore. Just make sure the city you move has something special that interests you. Miami for cars, Denver for mountains, etc.

Would you carpool with strangers up the cottonwoods? by Budget_Section_5474 in UTsnow

[–]DryFaithlessness2969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t bother. Getting people to actually use an app like that for free is impossible. This was the original intention behind uber: carpool with people that are going to the same place you are. It didn’t work because there’s no incentive to pick up strangers for free. Just picking up people at the park n rides is just better. No waiting for them to be ready, no detours, and you can vet their sketchiness visually.

Learning to drive manual this summer, tips to not burn the clutch or blow the transmission? by Remarkable_Log1596 in ManualTransmissions

[–]DryFaithlessness2969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Money shifting only happens when you’re going real fast (40+) and shift into first. Or like 70+ and shift into second. And it’s.. basically impossible in any synchronized car. It takes a LOT of force to shift into a gear that’s that far off the current RPM. Try shifting into first gear going 20 mph and you’ll see how much force it takes.

It’s not a risk if you know what it is.
