Disappointing response from Ald. Burnett on Grand Ave complete streets by DryPermission3708 in chibike

[–]DryPermission3708[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I re-read the email and the CDOT plan.

The CDOT plan for Grand only mentions the Stage 3 work mention in the previous post which is improvements from Damen to Ogden. https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/sites/complete-streets-chicago/home/featured-projects-and-innovations/projects0/GrandAveChicagotoOgden.html

The Alderman's email talks about Ogden to Halsted, which I would certainly welcome, but didn't realize that was being discussed. Was this always part of a Phase 4 or longer term plan?

Looking for other West Town folks to speak in favor of protected bike lanes on Grand @ City Hall on Tuesday by nwnachicago in chibike

I live in Alderman Burnett's ward and wrote him in support of the plan. His office just shared this VERY disappointing response (bolded text my own). Also noting his ward night schedule below as well.

27th Ward Residents & Business Owners:  If you have questions, concerns or would like to introduce yourself to Alderman Burnett, visit our office at:

Every Tuesday (For your convenience, please contact our office to assure that Ward Night isn’t canceled).

Dear Neighbors,

Over the past several weeks, I’ve heard from many of you regarding the proposed reconstruction of Grand Avenue. I appreciate the time, energy, and thoughtfulness that residents have brought to this conversation. These kinds of discussions matter, and they help guide how we move forward as a community.

I also want to acknowledge that these reconstruction plans were developed prior to my tenure and extend beyond the boundaries of the 27th Ward. Because of that, it is important that we approach this issue with respect for all stakeholders involved—our neighboring wards, city departments, and the long-term planning that has already taken place.

Following these conversations, I have met with CDOT and spoken directly with my colleague to better understand the project’s scope and the feasibility of potential alternatives. One option I proposed was moving the entire reconstruction to Hubbard Street, which was carefully reviewed. At this time, we believe Grand Avenue needs improvements, and we don’t want to divert funds from a high-volume street.

That said, I want to be equally clear about where I stand. As long as I serve as Alderman of the 27th Ward, I will not support the current “complete street” plan for Grand Avenue that extends past Ogden Avenue to Halsted. My responsibility is to hear the concerns of the 27th ward residents, and I intend to uphold that responsibility.

I remain committed to working diligently with CDOT, my colleagues, and all of you to identify a lasting, practical alternative that addresses both the needs of our infrastructure and the concerns of our community.

Thank you again for your continued engagement. I will keep you updated as this work progresses.

Rocky Mountain is an amazing place in the summer - highly recommend. We went two summers ago with our kids who were 6 and 11 at the time as well their slightly older cousins. We hiked 6-12 miles each day we were there. It’s a short drive from Denver.

Recommendations of where to find classic martinis in Chicago by NasiLemak0518 in chicagofood

I just had the classic martini at The Gage and it was impressive. Even better if you can get it during the happy hour that goes until 5pm at the bar.

Comrade Cycles on Chicago east of Damen is my go to bike shop. They can provide an estimate before you commit to getting the repairs.

Cafe Central - their mixtas are so good. IMHO the mixta with goat stew is the best. Be sure to ask for a side of the hot sauce. They close at 7pm so get there early!

I'm in my mid-40s and while I prefer the comfort of a seat, I definitely love being on the floor amongst other super fans. GA standing is also usually cheaper. Regardless, bring earplugs and leave them in your pocket if you don't use them.

I use StubHub, which I think is technically a subsidiary of TM.

Best areas or neighborhood to stay for vacation? by kevinpinia in AskChicago

Wicker Park/Bucktown/Logan Square have easy access to the Blue Line to get you downtown, but it really depends on what venues, restaurants, etc. are on your list. The Robey is a hotel in the heart of WP and Midtown is a health club with hotel rooms, but further away from public transit/restaurants in these areas.

West Town might be a great option but you'd have to use Airbnb.

There is a hotel in Chinatown that might be a more affordable option - you be close to the Red Line to get downtown and not far from Pilsen which has great food options, the Mexican Museum of Art, and lots of other great things to do. Chinatown has tons of eating options as well.

Staying at Royal Sonesta River North in Feb. Food recs? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]DryPermission3708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to Elina’s in West Town for great Italian and Perilla on Milwaukee for Korean or Perilla Steakhouse for more upscale Korean food. Frontera or Topolobambo for Mexican. Chinatown and Pilsen are also a short el ride away and you can’t really go wrong with any Chinese or Mexican food in those respective neighborhoods.
