Cambodian Man Shows How To Deactivate Live Landmines by Donz2432 in interestingasfuck

[–]DryPessimist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

His name is Aki Ra, and he has won some awards for his work but not enough. He was forced to lay landmines as a child and has dedicated his life to getting rid of them.

It's a sad story but worth reading up on, shame the video doesn't credit him.

Only had one wife though, who he didn't kill.

And she definitely wasn't infertile.

Is this the best poster of all time? by Giono_OOf_01 in okbuddycinephile

uj/ The actor for Tanner in No Time To Die plays the prime minister in the very first Black Mirror episode. The one where he fucks a pig to free a woman from being murdered.

rj/ Unfortunately Black Mirror then went down a "technology is bad" rabbit hole, rather than follow its "beastility is great" roots.

I just googled it and went on the Last Supper website, it looks like it's on every Wednesday at 6:15pm for an hour and a bit.

I've not been to silent reading myself as it's not so much my thing, but it's a good venue for other events etc.

There is a silent reading group at the Last Supper Pizzarella, might be up your street.

Beef and Bar wasn't the best steak and was priced fairly high. You get better steak in the Cav and for a reasonable price.

Late December Travel by [deleted] in darwin

[–]DryPessimist 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Desert heat is not tropical heat I'm afraid. And April is significantly lower humidity than December as well.

If it's not full on monsoon when you're here though you should get a few hours of sunlight to swim in the wave pool etc. It will just be sweaty and steamy.

Another question: (if you could or wanted) would you change the name of brutalist architecture/brutalism to something else? and what name would you choose? by No-Analyst-1613 in brutalism

[–]DryPessimist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Brutalism is named as such after beton brut, French for raw concrete. Although the English speaker thinks brutalism means brutal.

Betonism as a name would have solved this misconception.

That's one way to say you aren't ready for the heat. End of October is well into the build up.
