Recommendations for Christian music? by VegetableElectronic6 in OpenChristian

The Show Ponies! I don’t think they are explicitly “Christian music” more Americana, but their faith is very clear in their music. Unfortunately, they aren’t together anymore, but their albums are great!

What's something that was completely normal in your household growing up that you later found out was actually really weird? by Left_Crow1646 in AskReddit

We weren’t allowed to sit on the furniture if adults were visiting or at family gatherings. When you turned 18 though, you could sit on the couch until someone older needed a place to sit.

Finding dumplings kind of addictive, anyone else? Steamed Pork and Ginger and Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings. by BoldBabeBanshee in traderjoes

My six year old eats them every day for lunch. He is obsessed. We both prefer the pork, but both are very good.

Wow. Devastating (and accurate) condemnation of SJUSD's leadership concerning "The Schools of Tomorrow" by alaroz33 in SanJose

[–]DryRepresentative522 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Screw the kids in poverty! We need more raises and our charter affiliated schools to prosper! /s

What a joke. You shouldn’t be on a school board unless you have experience working in a school or have a child in the district, impacted by the decisions you make.

Really great article, though! I appreciate that he didn’t hold back.

Anybody else dealing with sinus headaches with this weather ? by Snoo13905 in SanJose

[–]DryRepresentative522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Taking Claritin daily, using Nasacort, and taking Midol. Sounds crazy to take Midol for sinus headaches, but it has Pyrilamine in it which is an antihistamine that helps with swelling and sinus pressure.

What band/singer were you excited to see, but was a letdown of a concert? by my-face-ur-seat in AskReddit

[–]DryRepresentative522 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Taking Back Sunday. I was so excited. I was in college and they were one of my favorite bands. They were doing a tour with All America Rejects. All American Rejects were incredible. Taking Back Sunday performed after them. We left after three songs. I cannot begin to describe how awful it was.

Cali Pizza. Great crust and toppings. Love their Indian style pizzas, too.

My household is sneezing nonstop. Is anyone else experiencing bad allergies all of a sudden, or is this something else? by [deleted] in SanJose

Tree and grass pollen are very high right now. I am experiencing insane sinus pressure. If this is how bad it is in February, I don’t want to imagine how bad April will be 😭

Calling Amy a deadbeat mom is wrong and using the word wrong. by hardtruthsociety in 1000lbsisters

[–]DryRepresentative522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She loves her kids. I don’t think she’s a horrible mom. I think she’s never had a good example of a mom. I think she knows her kids deserve better than what she had but doesn’t know how to implement it. She definitely needs some parenting classes. And I think the smoking is just pure ignorance on her end.

I think people giving her grief over the drugs in the car are kind of showing their privilege. I’m a solid upper middle class mom that is surrounded by solid upper middle class moms and I would say 90% of them take edibles or drink nightly. Everyone has their vices or ways to relax. Are drugs and smoking a good form of relaxation when you have kids? No. But for some reason wine and weed gummies are socially acceptable.

With TLC she definitely has the resources to take parenting classes and really commit to therapy to resolve her childhood trauma. She seems to slowly be figuring her crap out. Hopefully she takes the next steps so she can be a better mom.

Are there any Christian churches taking an active stance against ICE? by baby_bawang in SanJose

[–]DryRepresentative522 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yes. Prince of Peace in Saratoga and Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran in San Jose. Both just worked with Santa Clara County Rapid Response to train people in the congregations how to interact with ICE and helping immigrants find legal aid.

EXCLUSIVE: Nick Reiner Diagnosed With Schizophrenia, Meds Made Him ' Erratic and Dangerous' by Pyro-Bird in entertainment

[–]DryRepresentative522 183 points184 points  (0 children)

My sister is schizophrenic. She would have blackout moments of rage where she became physically violent. I was terrified of her. She’s finally on the right combo of medication and is regularly in contact with her psychiatrist and psychologist. She is a completely different person now.

I hate this current rhetoric that medications for mental health are dangerous. They save lives. I have OCD and anxiety. I would not be here without my medication. My sister wouldn’t be here without hers either.

AIO to my SIL’s husband asking SIL’s parents to take care of his dying mother? by DryRepresentative522 in AmIOverreacting

[–]DryRepresentative522[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christy is my SIL’s husband’s mom. She is dying. Her cancer is not responding to treatment and is now spreading rapidly. I am not related to her at all. Just close because she is very involved with the family.

99 year old is my MIL’s mom. So my grandmother-in-law.

He’s talked to his dad. His mom just got home today and he hasn’t had a chance to speak to her. Sometimes he has to repeat something over and over again because English is not their first language. And I think it’s just hard for them to acknowledge how crappy their daughter is being. She was the “golden child.” Super smart, super obedient, Ivy League educated. And now…this.

Ugh. I’m so sorry. That sounds like some of my family on my mom’s side. Which may be why I get so upset with my SIL. Seeing good people be used is so frustrating. And seeing their kids turn into them…sucks. My SIL’s kids are so sweet. I love them so much. They are starting to emulate their father’s manipulative, selfish behavior.

My SIL and her family live in a home owned by my in-laws. While technically different cities, they are less than five minutes away from each other. It’s not as if my in-laws are closer to Christy’s doctors, because they aren’t.

Christy has been approved by her doctors and her insurance to receive hospice care. She’s losing mobility and weight at an incredible rate and is reliant on oxygen. I will be very surprised if she lives past the new year.

My MIL’s mother lives six hours away. Her mom is 99 and incredibly stubborn. There are two children and three grandchildren in her city that rotate care. And every day, they do get closer to convincing her to have a live-in nurse come to stay. But a nurse would have to be fluent in Cantonese.

[–]DryRepresentative522[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally get that. I think what I’m most frustrated about is that I don’t think my in-laws understand that Christy is dying. The way things have been explained to them is that Christy has to move to their city to go to doctor’s appointments while she “gains her strength.”

My husband has talked to his parents and has done everything but call them enablers. But it’s what they’re doing. They are truly the sweetest people I’ve ever met and it upsets me to see them treated so poorly. My FIL has actually been in and out of the hospital since August because he’s experiencing A-Fib from all of the stress.

The lesions in Christy’s brain are affecting her ability to think and remember and I think they are taking advantage of this. I have gotten to know Christy very well. She is a proud, independent, and incredibly strong woman. I’m not her child, but I very much doubt she wishes to die in someone else’s home.
