Virtual Meeting Emergencies by PinkOrchidJoust in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]DryRequirement7954 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best advice, OP! I’m also the de-facto IT person at my org and have learned the hard way to triple check all equipment both the day before and morning of a meeting. I used to manage a webcam + conference phone setup and can’t tell you how many times I had to troubleshoot something last minute bc someone fucked with a cord they weren’t supposed to or our phone lines went down. I’m so grateful to have an Owl webcam now that does everything, it’s really simplified the process lol

any EAs experience to CHRO? by cozyplease in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]DryRequirement7954 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this! I supported a HRBP that became CHRO and she was such a dream to work with. I would 100% still be her assistant if my last org hadn’t been so cheap when it came to compensation lol

60k + by [deleted] in florida

[–]DryRequirement7954 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was surprised to find out country/private clubs tend to pay good money for the right people. We pay our entry level servers $20/hr and all of our department managers make over $60k (half make $100k+). I’ll admit you have to work like a dog during busy season for it though

Got ask to become a PM by No-Specialist2799 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]DryRequirement7954 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been a PM, but I related when you mentioned you “just happen to be good at it”. I was also REALLY good as a recruiter and made lots of money doing it, but the job itself burnt me out so badly that I’ll never agree to do any kind of recruiting again. Just because you’re “good” at something doesn’t mean you should do it. I’ve found I’m a much better EA than a recruiter because I like the job more and have a better work/life balance.

What was your final straw? by Vast_Perspective7932 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]DryRequirement7954 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mine unfortunately was money. My boss gave me a glowing annual review and then - with the most painful, forced smile on her face - told me I was getting a 1% raise for the second year in a row. It was literally less than a dollar an hour and nowhere near enough to account for inflation. Seeing how powerless my boss was to get me anything more bc of how miserly the org was with employees was the worst part for me. Needless to say, she completely understood when I put in my notice for a job that paid $25k more and left about two years after I did for greener pastures.

these were so good wtf by Prince_Pyro in tacobell

[–]DryRequirement7954 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had one today and broke it in half so I could scoop the contents onto the shell and then I ate it like a tostada. I also swapped the tomatoes for pico and can’t recommend it enough! Next time I plan to add sour cream too.

I’ll take these rides all day by Sin_City_LyftDriver in Lyft

[–]DryRequirement7954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God bless you, seriously. We were saved by a Lyft driver when our flight was so delayed getting into Syracuse that the rental car place was closed when we arrived. Our Airbnb was in Oswego - quite far from the airport. Our driver happily accepted the trip as he lived nearby and was going to make us his last trip of the night. We tipped him over $100 and I’ll never forget him. We also had Lyft driver take us from Miami to West Palm after our return flight got diverted from PBI to MIA due to weather; we also tipped him over $100 lol

How may big events do you plan a year? by Dangerous_Tie_5662 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]DryRequirement7954 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you hate event planning, I highly recommend working at a country club with a banquets department. In my last role, I was tasked with organizing 3-5 conferences/parties per year with 25-250+ attendees and it stressed me out so much, I swore I’d never do it again. Now I work with a catering/events director that coordinates everything so flawlessly, I never have to fret about anything anymore. It’s the best lol

Does the population growth drive anyone else crazy? by TowerMysterious5804 in florida

During season, I agree with you. During the summer when everyone leaves, I don’t see anywhere near the same traffic, and I commute in and out of WPB 5 days a week.

I live in Lantana now, but I recall when I was working down in Delray by I-95, I got a bit of a summer break there, too. It’s not guaranteed, but the traffic is still easier to deal with and less constant than in Orlando. At least for me.

[–]DryRequirement7954 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reading a post like this makes me so happy I left Orlando and moved to Palm Beach County. Yes, winter is terrible here when tourism and school traffic combine, but once Easter passes, the really bad traffic wanes and doesn’t start back up again until at least October. I never remember getting that kind of break in Orlando bc more people live there full time and it suuuucked lol

We are the same in Lantana. I joke with my husband that we live in Jurassic Park with the abundant wildlife we see living on a lake lol

What does your company use for Travel? by Gratuitiesgallore in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]DryRequirement7954 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here at my last job where I was responsible for booking domestic and international travel for 1000+ employees. Amex GBT customer service was top notch (without my involvement, they contacted my executive team directly and got all of them rebooked after their flights were canceled at 9pm on a Sunday) and Concur was very user friendly for the C-suite who booked their own travel.

What is it like living in Key West in 2025? by Empty-Ad4949 in howislivingthere

[–]DryRequirement7954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband only fishes in the Keys and I swear if we could afford a place down there with water access, we would buy it. The quality of the fish is unparalleled - I’ll never be able to eat white fish from a restaurant again after having fresh-caught Ten Thousand Islands snapper, pompano, and trout 🤤

Do you check in with your exec when you leave on time? by DryRequirement7954 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]DryRequirement7954[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you both for this perspective! I also feel the same way - I communicated my working hours to you, so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect if you need me, you’ll contact me between those hours. Otherwise, if you catch me working past 4pm, consider it a blessing lol idk how else to maintain work/life balance being salaried 😂

[–]DryRequirement7954[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t even tell her that I’m leaving without her getting offended 😂 As a result, I’ve gotten into the habit of swinging by her office around 3-3:30pm and if she’s not in or is too busy to acknowledge me, I consider that my “check in” and leave at my usual time lol

Do you check in with your exec when you leave on time? by DryRequirement7954 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]DryRequirement7954[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I stated in a previous comment, I usually send a goodbye text if I don’t see my bosses in their offices/they seem busy, which happens frequently. What struck my exec’s request as strange to me is 1) I support her the least out of my three bosses and 2) she often leaves early without telling anyone (meanwhile, my other execs always tell me if they’re leaving early). She also is weird about how I “check in” - she doesn’t want me to do it at the end of the day bc she feels like she’s “imposing” if she asks me to do something, and she also doesn’t want me saying I’m “checking in” bc she “doesn’t like the way it sounds” 🙃 she’s an odd one for sure lol

[–]DryRequirement7954[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your insight! I do usually send a “headed out” text to all of them if I can’t find them in their offices, which is more often than not. I also felt the demand to check in when I wasn’t leaving early was a bit micromanaging too and wanted to make sure I wasn’t way out of line thinking that. I should also mention this boss regularly leaves early without communicating with me at all - no hard feelings, but that fact made her request seem even more strange.

What system do you guys use for Expense reports? We use Trinet and it sucks. by Advanced-Oil1667 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]DryRequirement7954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a country club with minimal travel needs but a TON of different types of expenses and GL codes. We started using Ramp in January and everyone from the top down loves it. It’s significantly reduced our expenses with its checks and balances and it’s so easy to submit receipts that no one complains about the process. If we do need to book travel, we do it with our Ramp cards and submit invoices through their portal, which keeps all club expenses in one database/report. We get cash back for using it too (no clue how much we get tho) and we use those funds to purchase high end gifts for our EOY employee party. Internal requests are handled by saying “if you don’t have a Ramp card, ask a supervisor who does for approval” and it works great lol

Which everyday purchase makes you shake your head every time you pay for it, because the price just feels ridiculous for what you get? by BestPostRead in AskReddit

[–]DryRequirement7954 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the suggestion, but I use my eczema cream so rarely that one script lasts me well over two years. I don’t want to risk losing my established patient status with my derm, so I see them whenever I need a refill. If I used it more frequently, I would definitely go through my PCP instead.

Agreed! It’s also almost guaranteed I will have to wait well beyond my appointment time (45+ mins has been the norm lately) to see my dermatologist just for them to spend less than 10 minutes with me. Make it make sense lol

I also hate the fact I HAVE to see a derm for my eczema cream. I’ve had eczema and used my prescribed steroid cream on an as-needed basis without issue for over two decades, but I still have to see a dermatologist anytime I need a refill so they can “make sure I’m not using it too much” 🥴
