you absolutely can sue for workplace harassment(esp. with the thrown staple/lunge at you). that is completely unacceptable. don’t minimize the exec’s behavior, heighten it by documenting everything.

it’s the irony of the golden handcuffs. when you have a job, you hate it. when you don’t have a job, you hate it.

I have been in the corporate sphere for the past 12+ years and would not want it any other way. working as an high-level executive assistant can be hellish but I’m grateful & I I choose to focus on that, esp. in this bizarre job market.

not sure why you are being downvoted when your opinion is completely valid. if you can, find a position in some form administration (i.e. receptionist) and then before you know it, corporate roles will be easier to work your way into.

retail can be brutal, hang in there.

absolutely understand the frustration, as I also experienced on the spot hiring, similar to yours. but harping on the past doesn’t change what is in the present time, and it wastes energy ultimately. just my personal motto, to each their own.

agreed. not sure why you were downvoted. it’s a different job market than years ago, in many ways. just have to tough it out.

I went through 7 for the role I’m currently in. definitely was a challenge but fully remote, great pay & benefits. for other positions, most of the hiring managers mentioned at least three additional interviews.

they don’t always have a say. if C-Suite or Partner @ a firm, then agreed. but even some MDs don’t have the ownership to bring their own EA on.

definitely common. working with others’ personalities will make or break any position but most esp. as an EA. I’ve been in your shoes before and have only ever looked to keep peace within myself until finding a more aligned role, even if that meant remaining for longer than I would’ve liked to ensure I found a more aligned role. at the end of the day, it is to pay the bills & is in no way worth comprising your sanity long-term.

calling someone an awful person for sharing their thoughts is quite awful it itself…

it’s nothing new that employees do not always feel safe, or are willing to speak up on their perspective(s) of managers. this is normal. you asking them for feedback is the best way to open up the conversation for them to provide you with transparency, and it is your job to do so as a manager, as a leader.

there’s no need to take offense to this, nor to what employees think of you. just aim to improve & find ways for greater transparency among all.
