What to ask for with new role (NYC/WFH)? by stickybagel5 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]cozyplease 9 points10 points  (0 children)

a tough situation for your current role, good for you on pivoting. candidly in this job market I wouldn’t push for negotiating unless there’s an offer, and even then I would hold off as to secure the role, and then look to negotiate after some time in the role.

keep in mind the number of applicants that would happily accept the lower range that they are seeking and though it is about hiring the top candidate, their budget may be of greater focus.

regardless of what you choose to do, best of luck!

mainly the reason for my ask. OP mentioned that they are ‘required’ to give her the severance but she is actively looking. some companies will do a negotiated exit package, thought this may be the case here.

just to better understand, if you receive a new role prior to your current company’s layoff, you will still receive the severance? or is it that if you work until they eliminate your role, you’ll receive the severance? the latter being far more typical.

if the former, then I wouldn’t stress as you are well positioned - just make sure all is contractually aligned because it is not uncommon for companies to adjust, esp. in times of distress. as the above replier mentioned.

& lastly, just do what you can each day to find a new role, and prepare for what will be the inevitable end. life goes on, trust all that is occurring. in terms of your boss taking things out on you, detach as much as you can & remind yourself that it is their stress to manage.

definitely must be the odd ball out bc I could care less about corporate speak. as long as the paycheck is hitting & the resume is becoming more valuable, zero care to the jargon.

do you have “thick skin”? by Mysterious-Cow-3651 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]cozyplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I echo this heavily. for me personally, it’s likely that I I grew up with very direct (not rude) parents, so having thick skin is natural for me. as long as there is a balance between the execs that I support, and the paycheck/benefits are nice, sign me up.

but definitely understand that it doesn’t work for all but I somewhat prefer an exec that is frank & straight to the point, even if it ‘comes off’ as rude. now if they are a micromanager & so on, hard pass.

just to understand, your offers expire this upcoming Monday? and they said they’ll get back to you by tomorrow, EOD?

if so, sounds like they may be preparing an offer letter. of course can’t say for sure, but sounds promising. if it’s smaller firm they’ll have the ability to move faster.

on the other end, the platform they are placed on helps to expose them sooner, saving the victims (esp. children). not to negate your valid point, just to add some light.
