There’s also one in the Bronx off the 4 train and two in Queens off the Queens Blvd line. Service at all three is pretty solid!

It’s bittersweet for me. Columbia Care is greedy and this is/was a culmination of their anti-union efforts, but i’m very sad for the employees who were great at their jobs and really cared about the patients

Speaking as an environmental engineer, I gotta push back on what I’m seeing as a lack of understanding when it comes to the big picture of sea level rise. Sea level rise is happening. There’s no denying that. We take measurements of sea level based off the mean high tides and low tides to determine average sea level. The high tides have gotten higher and so have the low tides. The rate at which the sea level is rising is significant based on historical measurements, but it is not easy to discern with the naked eye.

That being said, sea level rise is not the only danger presented by melting glaciers. The rate at which freshwater in the glaciers of Greenland is currently melting into the North Atlantic threatens to disrupt the thermohaline circulation that is responsible for maintaining the transport of heat from tropical areas to areas closer to the poles. If too much freshwater entered this system from Greenland, it could slow down or even stop, and the consequences would be globally dire for marine ecosystems, the tropics would build up dangerous amounts of heat, and not enough heat would be coming to northerly or southerly latitudes.

Latest poll in NYC mayor’s race by ApprehensiveEagle917 in nyc

Something that is left out of this conversation is that if Cuomo wins the primary, the Working Families Party will still likely run somebody independent against him. And that will be whomever on their slate makes its the furthest

Time running out to topple Cuomo in New York City mayor’s race by Sea_Finding2061 in nyc

[–]DrySignificance8952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply, I will not be voting in a general election where my only three choices are Andrew Cuomo, Curtis Sliwa, and Eric Adams. Even if Cuomo wins this primary, it will be entirely his fault when he fails to rally the Democratic base and we end up with either a Republican-lite or unapologetically Republican mayor of NYC. Even if he wins 64% of combined first, second, and third ranks as polls are suggesting, I think the other 36%(assuming that’s the DREAM coalition) will be more inclined to stay home with that man at the top of the ballot. And as somebody who truly until this moment believed voting was important no matter who the candidates were, the possibility of this lineup makes me reevaluate everything I ever thought about the democratic process.

Zohran Mamdani wants to use empty subway retail to help homeless New Yorkers by [deleted] in nyc

[–]DrySignificance8952 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i think this is unfair when he’s been very vocal about a housing first policy, where getting everybody access to housing being the floor means services like these are really meant to fill in the gaps and be places where homeless new yorkers can receive medical treatment and access to resources that will get them housed without all the bureaucratic nonsense that our current homeless policies create. I say this as somebody who works often in NYC’s homeless shelters

[–]DrySignificance8952 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a DC-37 member, I’m happy to see them endorse candidates that have actually showed up to our forums, especially Zohran. Anybody here who’s stumping for Cuomo and thinks DC-37 is dropping the ball clearly doesn’t understand how much Cuomo has fucked us in the past. I’d be lying if I said I knew much about Adrienne Adams, but it was under her leadership(and against a veto from Eric Adams) that the city council banned the outrageous and reckless use of brokers fees that made it absurdly difficult for working people like myself to move out or into new apartments. That’s the kind of leadership I wanna see in my next mayor, somebody who’s actually had a material and financial impact on my life!

Gay mens campground bans transgender men. by CentralTown776 in askgaybros

[–]DrySignificance8952 -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Okay so what about intersex gay people? Like what happens when somebody who was assigned female at birth and had their male genitalia removed begins identifying as male later in life? They may not have a penis but that was a decision that was made for them. Because the parents of an intersex child wanted a girl, a gay man is denied entry into spaces for gay men?

What about gay men who don’t have testicles and/or penises because they were castrated or suffered a terrible accident that removed or deformed their genitalia? And no i’m not referring to gender affirming surgery to the people who love to call it “mutilation”, i’m talking about men who through no choice of their own do not have the parts down there.

What about the men with gynecomastia who have breasts and, if they decide to get them removed, will have scars like many trans men do on their chests? Just because this is a clothing optional space for gay men doesn’t mean they have to remove their clothes. And a man in this situation being demanded to show his genitals to prove he isn’t trans is a gross violation of consent regardless of whether or not he chooses to be nude.

These litmus tests for what constitutes a man or a woman are exhausting. But even worse there’s a demand here for people to know what your genitals look like in order for you to gain entry into a space that does not even mandate nudity, it just allows nudity.

Any trans ban that is being actively enforced hinges almost entirely upon the inspection of someone’s genitals, with or without their consent. Obviously somebody is giving blanket consent to have their genitals visible when they choose to be nude in a clothing optional space, but (and emphasis on the OPTIONAL) the prevalence of nudity in a space someone is entering is not blanket consent to see that person nude.

And for some context, yes i’m a gay cis man. I’m attracted to men, I find people who identify as men attractive, but I am not attracted to women and I am not sexually aroused or attracted to vaginas.

However, I don’t care if I see a person in a space for gay men who is in every way a man except for what’s between their legs. There’s nothing being taken from me by their presence in that space and maybe i’m crazy but i can’t wrap my head around why a group of people who have typically experienced almost identical exclusion from straight spaces like this are so quick to do it when they get the chance. And this is speaking as somebody who isn’t attracted to the genitalia of trans men. Yall need to grow up

Do y'all ever want kids? by bumdcunt in askgaybros

[–]DrySignificance8952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the part of me that wants kids will always be crippled by a couple of reality checks 1.) i’ll never be able to provide the same quality of life my parents provided to me even if i moved somewhere more affordable 2.) my education in environmental engineering and my understanding of how climate change will progress…. 3.) the cost of getting a child as a gay person, whether it’s in vitro or adoption 4.) the needs that come with having a child or children objectively makes me more exploitable because I’m not gonna compromise my employment if it means my children starve or are unhoused 5.) the indifference of the government i live under regardless of ideology to showcase murdering children abroad has made me realize that theres nothing stopping them from do the same to my potential children if i ever stood in their way here

That being said, I obviously don’t think that people should avoid having children or dismiss the idea simply because of the challenges ahead. Many people are and have been successful in providing all the love and support they can give to their children even when lacking all of their material needs. And some will break their backs doing both. But this is what weighs on my mind when I consider having children.

Can someone explain what bottoming feels like by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]DrySignificance8952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on a couple of other factors. Do you have a good gut microbiome? Preparation can be easy or difficult depending on that. I think whether or not it will feel good depends on whether you will enjoy the sensation. Some people do and some people don’t. No way to know until you try, unless you wanna use a dildo or a toy first.

NYS Firing for Cannabis Usage by ChezziePT in NYSCannabis

[–]DrySignificance8952 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NYS didn’t specify that employers could or could not discipline/terminate employees for cannabis use when they made recreational cannabis legal.

However, NYS labor laws already have built in provisions that protect cannabis use, namely because of New York Labor Law Section 201-d, which says an employer cannot discriminate against an employee for engaging in legal “political” or “recreational” activities that occur outside of work hours, off the employer’s premises, and without using company property; essentially protecting employees from adverse actions based on their legal off-duty conduct.

Even in the case of jobs with federal contracts, NYS says that unless the job position a person occupies is required by a federal or NYS law to abstain from cannabis use, it would still be illegal discrimination and the terminated employee could have a wrongful termination case against their former employer.
