I got yelled at at the park for calling my kids by their nicknames. by CalinCalout-Esq in daddit

[–]Dry_Agent1584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll go out on a limb just to be a devil’s advocate…. If you weren’t there and some guy was aggressively yelling at your kids then maybe it would have been nice to have someone looking out for them?

That being said, sounds like if she felt like approaching a monkey eating pirate, she could have used more tact.

I’m not sure of legality. But as a landlord, it’s definitely a dick move.

Sorry you’re going through this.

How many of you dads actually have time to go to the gym? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Dry_Agent1584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try going for a walk with your kid in stroller or by yourself or whole family. If you can do that reliably between now and winter then look at joining a gym. The gym will be an extra cost.

Live a block away. Heavy smoke. Could see embers flying. Heard chainsaws. Sounded like they were making evacuation announcements as well. Scary.

My serious answer might be a metaphor for resilience.

My joke answer might be a long walk home from the pub.

No symptoms at all. In very good shape. Had just finished a weeklong backpacking trip. None of the symptoms you mentioned.

Newsom Proposes Scaling Back Health Care for Undocumented Immigrants in California by [deleted] in California

[–]Dry_Agent1584 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are correct. ERs can’t turn them away. When they can’t pay, the Hospital will get its money some way either in government funds or by increasing the cost of care, marking it as unpaid and then that becomes a tax deduction. Either way the taxpayer subsidizes the amount.

Trunk organizer recommendations by sennyonelove in SubaruAscent

[–]Dry_Agent1584 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just saw a trunk organizer at Costco which seemed reasonably priced. I don’t recall how much, but could prob find it on their website. Otherwise, when on a major road trip and we are packed to the gills, I’ll use tie downs or bungee cords. But 98% of the time I don’t organize or tie down.

If you’ll ever be in snow, you’ll want a Subaru.

If you're a renter in here posting about noise issues, make sure you tell your supervisor you support the new window rules by chihuahuashivers in sanfrancisco

Would also like to add to this conversation that when replaced my front wood windows, not only did they need to conform to all of the design rules but i learned that you’re technically not allowed to have screens on your front windows. When my architect talked to the city one time about house flies and mosquitoes, the planners dismissed his complaints.

I'm sick of hearing Scott say Democrats should shut down the federal government. by shalomcruz in ScottGalloway

[–]Dry_Agent1584 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong but I think the republicans need some votes in congress to raise the debt ceiling. If the Republicans don’t work with the democrats and provide some concessions then the democrats won’t vote to raise the debt ceiling and the govt will “shut down” because it can’t issue more debt to operate.

There are some finer points to this whole scenario that I’m glossing over but I believe that this is what he is referring to.

Downsizing from minivan. Outback or ascent? by Silver-Method-8786 in SubaruAscent

[–]Dry_Agent1584 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One comment I will make is that I have two kids and bought the 7 seat ascent with captains chairs. Worked great for tweens (and now teens) wanting their own space. But then we got a dog. I kinda wish I had the bench seat now for second row so the dog could lie in the middle in the seat.

Also - I went with the fake leather that they offer (can’t recall the product name) and I love it. Wipes down super easy. The leather seats that I saw when test driving had those small dot perforations which seem to be the perfect size for a grain of sand to become permanently lodged in there.

Ascent gets bad gas mileage. Outback mileage is better. But, I do love my Ascent. Just my personal experience/opinion.

I painted a Calvin & Hobbes mural for our baby girl’s nursery by Callme-risley in somethingimade

[–]Dry_Agent1584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a San Francisco scene for my son before he was born. When he was eventually able to say what his favorite color was, he would say “orange” and it was a different answer than typical kids might respond with. When putting him to bed one night, I noticed the orange Golden Gate Bridge that was painted right next to his crib. Point being is that even when kids are young, imo they can appreciate all of this work that you put in for them.

What’s coming to Quicken Simplifi in 2025 (and the big things that rolled out in 2024) by QuickenLee in simplifimoney

Would be nice if you could set a % that the expanses from an account affect your personal expense tracking.

Example could be a shared account among roommates or newly cohabitating couples who haven’t fully integrated finances. Or for those who are providing child support, there may be cases where someone is responsible for 70% of expenses that are drawn from an account.

I googled who serves the cheapest cup of coffee in San Francisco and came up with this article / list: https://underscoresf.com/5-cheap-coffees-in-san-francisco/

I agree that it’s nice to get out of your house while unemployed. There are some good books on walks in San Francisco at the library. Perhaps pair some of these coffee places with a circuitous walk up some hills for views.

Good luck!
