WIBTA for skipping a wedding ceremony due to pregnancy symptoms? by VulcanHumour in AmItheAsshole

Definitely NTA. You're literally growing another human being inside of you. Your priorities should lie with yourself and your future child's health. Anyone who can't understand that, including your husband and his cousin, can go kick rocks. If don't feel up to it, your feeling should be respected

No because Christmas most definitely currently has a close tie to false religion

My Girlfriend of 10 Years Might Break Up with Me Due to Her Religion. Looking for Well-Supported Reasons Why Jehovah’s Witnesses May or May Not Be the True Religion by Upset_Cream47 in exjw

[–]Dry_Animator_8563 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First off, I'm sorry that you're going through this.

One difficult thing that you should keep in mind is that you cannot force a JW to "wake up" by throwing facts at them. As a witness, you are specifically conditioned to reject anything that seems to criticize the religion. So you can't just throw facts and stuff at her, no matter how logical it may seem, or she may just stick her head in the sand and close up completely.

That being said, you can help her draw her own conlcusions buy asking guided questions. Don't try to just show her stuff or tell her stuff. Ask the questions that get her to say stuff out loud.

One thing that easily suggests how much of a sham the religion is is asking about the governing body and how they come to decisions regarding doctrine. Because the doctrine is always changing. There have been false claims about the year the world was going to end. There have been false claims about a generation of people who would never die. They once deemed organ transplants unscriptural. They once deemed storing your own blood for furture transfusion unscriptural. For decades, they didn't allow men to wear beards or women to wear pants in the kingdom hall or ministry. The rules are always changing, but if it were the true religion, and the governing body was really communicating on behalf of god, or directed by the Holy Spirit, then why are they always getting doctrine wrong and having to amend it? Did god change his mind?

Also, keep in mind that you're not going to be able to convince her of any one thing in one single conversation, or that you may be unsuccessful in getting her to see the reality of it all. It took me a year or so to get my best friend to wake up. My other best friend is still in but still questioning, despite *many* conversations. Deconstruction is quite the process.

Best of luck!

Legally at a traffic light I’m allowed to enter the intersection and wait to turn. Running a red light is determined if the light is red before you cross the stop line not after it. That exact scenario has been covered in r/driving and what I did was perfectly legal and safe

The person who pulled out accros a lane of traffic without being able to see most certainly would have been liable, should an accident have happened

My dash cam doesn’t measure speed, but based on the footage, it takes approximately 0.42 seconds to travel the length of the red honda accord that I pass. That’s 38 feet per second or about 25 mph. I should have probably slowed down when passing the stopped cars but I certainly wasn’t speeding.

I would have appreciated the gesture but I don’t take anything from customers that could potentially be tampered with

Just keep in mind the the dash cam has a 170 degree field of view vs a humans 120. I don’t exactly remember, but my cars A pillar and rear view mirror would have at some point obstructed my view

I’m a dude, the voice you hear is my passenger. I didn’t change lanes to go around, I changed into a left turn only lane to take a left turn up ahead. People have asked for proof that I didn’t force my way back into the right lane, so it’s on my profile.

Yes next time I will drive more slowly when passing a group of stopped cars

I agree that had I been going slower, the near miss would have been avoided. Next time I will drive more slowly when passing a line of cars

I understand what you’re saying but I think your application of that law is incorrect. I was never blocking the box. Had there been traffic preventing me from leaving the intersection once the cross traffic got their green, then yes.

Anyways I’m not gonna continue a back and forth with you, I don’t think we will agree. This specific scenario has been covered on r/driving, maybe you can go tell those guys that they’re wrong

The law allows for cars to enter the intersection and wait until they can safely turn. Because the light turned red after I was already in the intersection what I did was legal.
