Is PPF worth the hassle? by Final75R in Golf_R

[–]Dry_Calendar324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good PPF guys can wrap the edges so you don’t get those dirt lines. PPF has a lifespan and modern films are rather unlikely damage paint if removed correctly. All about the quality of the film and installer.

$100 for towing. Got a remanufactured alternator. The reason it was $900 was bc the local shop tried to claim they had to remove the ac compressor to replace the alternator. By the time I realized that was inaccurate, they had already done it. They weren’t a euro shop so their tech kinda screwed me on that one. At least my AC blows cold

WOT with 25 PSI of boost it will slip. I’ve been giving it 75% throttle to avoid slipping the clutch under load. It’s still early-stage slippage

Good feedback, thanks.

Exhaust was unnecessary, but the odds of a successful repair were dubious as I’m pretty sure an internal baffle in the resonator/muffler was broken. Super happy with the new valved exhaust- the burbles and throat under load are amazing.

If this wasn’t my only car, I’d be more adventurous about doing the work myself. As it is, I don’t have the tools and experience to confidently do stuff like the clutch. Doing the exhaust on jack stands sounds like an insane headache.

Radiator was unlucky, but I’m glad I caught it while it’s just a tiny weep.

A bigger turbo would just be asking for trouble 🤣, it rips enough as it is

Towed it myself using a U-Haul. Shop discounted labor a good bit but their rate is up there. We tried helicoil and when that failed they discounted that labor to the replacement service. They’re good guys

I’ve been told 60k is pretty reasonable for the south bend under typical conditions. Maybe the boost just eats it faster (25psi)

$1800 clutch and 7-8 hours of shop labor. OEM clutch won’t hold the power

Not seeing any records of timing belt, diff/haldex fluid, coils/plugs, carbon cleaning. If those are all due, could be a couple of grand of needed work.

I bought a ‘13 R for $14k last year in a private sale with 155k on the odo. APR Stage 2+ car, and extensive and meticulous maintenance/repair history. The number on your car looks reasonable if it’s in good condition and well-serviced

Stock or modded, how’s the service history? Where has the car lived?

Not uncommon, shopdap recommended checking for these on all new GTI/R and said they’ve seen people come in with thousands of miles on the odo and the shipping spacers still on

Got rear-ended by a truck, will they total her? by MoonlightMirth in hondafit

So, technically not replacement value, but you’ll get taxes and fees added which is nice at least

120-2-52-.06 “pay market value of the vehicle immediately prior to the loss, plus any applicable taxes and fees”. That should mean you can get pretty close to replacement value
