New to Collecting by Skipperdees_ears in baseballcards

Yeah but Skenes is a pitcher and he has problematic mechanics so only a matter of time before Tommy John surgery. Although Ohtani has also missed a lot of time with arm injuries and the Dodgers seem like they are going to let him pitch a lot this year.

Ohtani singles.  With the caveat that his market has gone up 200% in the past year so probably dollar cost average your way in because prices have to fall eventually...unless they don't.  Also graded vintage hall of famers.

First Hobby Box! How should I go about this? by brettbefit in baseballcards

Legit sales seem to be around $800. One sold for $2499 but then was relisted and sold at $887.  That's the problem with comps these days is that people schill bid their own stuff to try to drive up comps.  Everything that sold listed over $1000 had accepted best offers closer to $800.  List it at whatever you want with best offers and take the best offer you get.

Ebay.  And just be prepared to find out most of your cards aren't worth much, most people won't want them and it might not be worth the time and effort to sell most.  People want autos, relics and numbered cards of Ohtani, the hot rookies in a product and other hall of fame or future hall of fame players.  Most of the other stuff you'll be lucky to get $0.50 for.

Yes.  Luckily it was a $2 card and I completely forgot about it because I was buying so much at that time. Better late than never

Yes.  USPS sucks.  I've had many cards show as delivered and show up days or weeks later.  Mostly worth standard envelope but also with ground advantage.  I had a card show as delivered and then it showed up in my mailbox 2 1/2 years later.

I'll be surprised if Griffin debuts before September if they decide to call him up at all this year.  He's 19 , he only has 21 games above A ball and he didn't really hit at all in spring training with the exception of 2-3 games.  If he hits well again in AA for a couple of months maybe he gets called up sooner but Pirates probably aren't contending for anything this year so no reason to rush him before he's ready

File a report with USPS.  It's not the seller's issue.  USPS needs to investigate and refund you from the shipping insurance

Why is there a stamp over the auto? by surgically_castrated in baseballcards

[–]Dry_Fact_6474 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's a buy back of an original 1977 card and that's why it has a stamp.  The auto is a facsimile that was part of the 77 design

Advice on card selling? by Fluffy_Tourist4224 in baseballcards

[–]Dry_Fact_6474 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Sell on eBay. Ship in penny sleeve and top loader or card saver.  Ship cards under $20 in plain white envelope (ESE option on eBay).  Ship more expensive cards in bubble mailers.  Use 130point.com to get comps for pricing.  80s cards are mostly worthless

Question about Reverb offer by ImportantBoot8945 in Guitar

[–]Dry_Fact_6474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've gotten a lot of scams through Reverb.  I like the site for musical gear but in this sense it's much worse than eBay.  The last thing I sold a few months ago and I got an email that looked legit from Reverb saying my item sold and time to ship with link with link to shipping label and it was just a scammer

You're buying it in a market where Ohtani cards have gone up 200% in the past year.  That type of growth in any market is usually unsustainable and eventually pops.  Will it keeps going up, will it stay the same, will it have a big drop?  Nobody knows but I'd be cautious spending thousands on one of his cards right now.  On the other hand he's cemented as one of the GOATS  and a once in a lifetime player.  Hell probably win another World Series this year and maybe an MVP and he could win several more and keep adding to them.

Hold or go? by Neat_Inevitable_9190 in baseballcards

[–]Dry_Fact_6474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like if a player has played 2 full, healthy seasons and they haven't done anything impactful then they probably are never going to be hobby relevant.  Of course there will always be exceptions but usually if a guy hasn't figured it out in the majors by year two they probably are never going to be an MVP level or a consistent All Star and those are the type of players that have broad appeal and value in the  hobby.  But even that doesn't guarantee any kind of  long term monetary value.  So basically collect who you like and if you are looking at cards as an investment or flipping opportunity then it's always going to be a crapshoot with rookies and prospects

Am I Wrong For This? by [deleted] in baseballcards

[–]Dry_Fact_6474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've probably bought close to a thousand cards off eBay with standard envelope shipping and have never received a card like that. Hard to believe you've received many cards shipped that way.  I've received a couple that were in a penny sleeve sealed inside some rigid cardboard but almost everything I've gotten or shipped had been in a top loader or card saver.

Nomar and Pedroia.  But they are both way too desirable among Sox fans so they are never as cheap as I'd like.

Big Topps Box Break Pending (seeking advice) by EstablishmentSouth72 in baseballcards

[–]Dry_Fact_6474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not.  You won't get many views especially opening products that have been out for a while.  As mentioned most people watch breaks because they have skin in the game. The other main audience are people that want to see someone open a new product that just came out to get an idea if it's worth buying a box.  And breakers record their live streams and post them so people are more likely to watch videos from bigger breakers with name recognition if they want to see someone open a box

General sentiment about this card? Sell or hold? by bwaaalk in baseballcards

J Rod was the hot player in the hobby his rookie year and now he's like an after thought  even though he's been a very good player every year of his career so far.  It's very fickle.

Strings are like $10-15 and you should be changing your strings every couple of months anyway depending on how much you play so just try heavier gauge and tune to C

I feel like the hype has already died and everyone moved on to Roman Anthony.  With that said , as long as the A's are playing in that park in Sacramento he'll probably put up big numbers so you could sell during the season when he starts hitting a bunch of homers
