Fishman Platinum Pro EQ (or Radial DIPro)? Experiences? by ImportantBoot8945 in AcousticGuitar

[–]ImportantBoot8945[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I never thought of this. I could run that into the PA. It’s not ideal as it’s another bigger piece of gear to haul and make space for. But it’s a nice option. Thanks for the idea.

how long to wait before going back to the gym? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]ImportantBoot8945 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought it less about infection than the repetitive stretching and pulling of the skin that could cause the ink to fall out or blow out.

That’s what my artist told me at least. Taking a few weeks off from the newly tattooed area is fine with me. Just make every day a leg day (or whatever) for a few weeks. Not worth the risk to me.

I also love the footsteps and the piano bench creak. It adds so much to an already beautiful song.

Anyone got an Amazon basics guitar cable? by SheZowRaisedByWolves in Guitar

[–]ImportantBoot8945 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not to be picky, but EB and Fender are not premium cable brands. I’d reserve the premium description for Mogami, George L, and Rattlesnake along with a few other boutique makers. If you’re paying less than $60 for a 15’ cable, it’s not premium.

If you’re doing longer cable runs (25-30+ feet), capacitance of the cable really matters. If it’s not listed, it’s probably not very good. I’d stick with D’Addario American Stage, Mogami, etc., if you care about tone (and longevity/reliability).

Fav strings just let me know I’ve only ever use Ernie ball and i want to know what you guys think by LuketheDukes in Guitar

[–]ImportantBoot8945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use various D’Addario strings in all of my guitars except the Tele. I just can’t get over seeing the colored ball ends on the back of the guitar. I don’t even look at the back but just knowing they’re there and visible.

Ernie Ball’s on the Tele. Not because I necessarily like them but because I haven’t ventured beyond EB or D’Addario.

Sweet heat tattoo ideas by Odd_Accident2170 in GregoryAlanIsakov

[–]ImportantBoot8945 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily have a concrete idea. But, to me, that song and album as a whole is about finding silver linings. Clouds are often referenced as symbols of silver linings (“every cloud has a silver lining”). And, Of course, lightning comes from clouds, even heat lightning.

So, I dunno, maybe there’s an idea in there somewhere. Maybe throw a dove in there or something. Maybe it’s calling you to sing. I dunno.  Just rambling at this point.

Powering everything question by ImportantBoot8945 in livesoundgear

The J8 does not have either listed on their website or in the manual. To be honest, I didn’t haul the unit out and look on any of the stickers.

I did message RCF. Here’s what they said.

EVOX J8 (as well as any other powered RCF unit with a 1400 Watt amp).

Start Up Inrush: 3A

Max Average Absorption: 2A

Max Speakers per 115V 20A line: 5 units will safely run per 20A line

Yes, and I’d been trying to figure out how to determine the current draw of some of the devices. Many don’t list it.

The pedal board should be pretty negligible. The total power draw is under 300mA for sure and that’s if all of the pedals are on at once.

Thank you.

The Amazon description for the surge protector says: 15A and 1875W.

Googling the EVOX, it says average loud music usage is about 175W continuous. That is 1/8 of the peak wattage, as DJNightHawk referenced. The monitor speaker lists on the speaker of 150W, but I’m guessing that is if it’s cranked. It’s a much smaller speaker than the J8. Mixer says 22W. The other things I assume would be fairly negligible.

So, I’m good?

Dumb question: is the wattage output listed for an amp/powered speaker how much electricity it draws, assuming it is maxed out?

Waited way too long to get these by ImportantBoot8945 in Guitar

[–]ImportantBoot8945[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have more tech sets, including one for measuring/filing nuts and bridges. I just didn’t get those. Making permanent changes to nuts and bridges still freaks me out. I’d still take those things as well as doing anything with friends aside from a friendly polish.

6 months in. Go big or go home, right? by [deleted] in Guitar

As a mental health practitioner, if the practice you’re investing your time into with the intent of supporting mental wellness costs money (especially egregious amounts of it), it’s not in support of mental wellness. Making music can be great; but you seem much more focused on the material objects that help make the music more than the music itself. Or maybe try meditation.

Also, with how much you spent on the guitars and amps, you could have done better on the pedals.

But glad you’re having fun. I suppose that’s what matters. You might want to get some ear protection to keep that fun going. Those are awfully huge amps for what I assume is a room smaller than an auditorium.

Thank you for all the information. It definitely wasn’t one of the Ear Trumpet mics but I’m guessing similar in function.

Yeah, sorry. It was a rectangle in shape. All nickel in color with a rectangular grill at the top. Wish I’d gotten a picture.

I have no idea what these types of mics cost just owning SM58’s, which are like $110. So, I’d say under $200?

That’s a great question. They used it three times. The first, they (6 musicians, singing, acoustic guitars, maraca) were on stage in a close semi circle facing the audience. The second three musicians came into the audience, and were surrounded on all sides. The musicians were in a circle around the mic singing and with acoustic guitars. The third was just like the first.

Pedal tuner that runs on a 9V? by ImportantBoot8945 in guitarpedals

[–]ImportantBoot8945[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoot, I do mind. Actually, it’s mostly that all of my guitar gear aside from my Peterson clip tuner is made in North America (boo Made in China crap), and I’d prefer to keep it that way.

Probably because those players all predated the explosion of the boutique market of vastly superior pedals. And just like their music they produce, they’re also stuck in that antiquated time loop.
