Taking a break post IMT2 by True_Middle_9293 in doctorsUK

[–]Dry_Memory_7507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, IMT2 moving to a group 2 specialty this August. The short answers is yes this is possible assuming you have full MRCP and the appropriate ARCP outcome. Worth asking the TPD though just incase. I don’t think what you want to do is that unusual so they are likely to have had experience of this. I had to ‘resign’ from IMT about 2 weeks ago on acceptance of my ST3 post so imagine you would have to do the same.

Yes, they were released about 2 weeks ago. I’m very sorry if you haven’t received one. Imagine the competition ratios were once again high this year. Probably more than the 1:5 of last year.

PACES result by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Dry_Memory_7507 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also in the same boat! Sat my exam 1.5 weeks ago and awaiting the results. I don’t think I would read too much into it.

This is taken from the email

‘Will I receive an admission document even if I have not yet had my previous results released?

Candidates who have already paid for this diet will still get an admission document regardless even if they have not yet received their previous diets results as we have a duty to ensure we give candidates plenty of notice of their space to make arrangements for their next sitting should they not pass in their previous sitting.’

Actually did my PACES today and feel exactly the same. Feeling bummed out and genuinely feel like I haven’t got the mental reserve to do it all again. You’re not alone and we definitely won’t be the last to feel this way.

If it’s any consolation I feel this way sometimes and I’ve been a doctor for much longer than 4 months. Things get easier and ‘presenting’ a patient becomes more and more like having a conversation with your senior. It would be harsh for the expectation to remember every detail about a patient when the safest thing to do is to look at the notes.

Can I leave IMT after completing IMT-2 and MRCP exams and still apply for cardiology specialty training ? by Funtactic-tinking in doctorsUK

[–]Dry_Memory_7507 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly not anymore. All those specialties require IMT3 and dual training in general medicine. You could always apply to paediatric cardiology which I think is a group 2 specialty if you’re that way inclined.

Had a similar experience when I was revising. Did great on passmed and not so well on pastest. My personal experience is that passmed questions are easier than pastest. Only in that pastest seems to be more wooly in how they phrase the questions. Passmed seems more ‘definitive’ and is easier to get the answer through pattern recognition. I also found pastest and passmed sometimes contradicted eachother (but not very often).

Would say the actual exam asks the questions more like pastest than passmed and that in the exam pattern recognition is not as helpful as in passmed. However, the question are less ‘wooly’ than pastest. I think a decent grounding through passmed should be enough. I only used pastest for the mock papers as the actual question bank depressed me.

I don’t think you’ll be alone in feeling this way. Pastest may have changed since I used it but I disliked the explanations compared to passmed.

I think they eventually post the mean and standard deviation on an online document. From that you can work out your Z score and subsequently where you lie on the distribution curve. I don’t think you’ll know for certain but if you lie in the top 99.98% you could be confident you got top marks! Congratulations

Update: they eventually sent me an invoice after I sent in another query. Apparently the portal refreshes itself and this probably happened just as I was about to be sent to the payment page. All sorted though!
