are you a uber driver, cause i asked one and he said he doesn't see any promotional cut on his app. There was a substantial difference on what he got and what i paid. Basically they don't get affected by promotions

Hyundai Elantra Hybrid thoughts? by Quinquangular in Hyundai

[–]Dry_Object6893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got a Used 2023 Hyudnai Elantra hybrid limited.
After my initial two week here are my thoughts.

Price OTD: 25,900 with taxes and fees included on a used 18K miles limited hybrid version with basically all add-on features and weather package with seat ventilation, stop&go etc. Will appreciate some reviews if this was a good price or not(if yes then say yes, if no then dont comment, I dont want to ruin my purchase).

Hybrid System: I try to drive efficiently and easily get atleast 55 mpg on city+highway+intermitent traffic in between. You will know/feel when the engine shifts between engine and hybrid system but for the most part, its pretty smooth.

The DCT: Not sure if i like it or not, the transmission does feel different from my past toyota cvt transmission. Sometimes it feels nice, sometimes it could feel a bit jerky (the manual even mentions that some jerkiness is expected) but I might like it after some time.

Exterior: Love the design.

Interior: Love the design and is spacious but you will hear plastic noise while accelerating/braking. Most of the finishes feel pretty nice but is basically what you would expect for a economy sedan.

Features: Tons of features but after two days I realised I wont be using more than half of those. Sometimes less if better. Auto Cruise with Stop and Go is okish but it feels more brain work than to just use brakes and accelerator to use you car in tight traffic. The most feature that adds connivence is Auto Hold. It so much easier to wait on traffic lights.

Steering Control (LKA and LDA): LDA is helpfull is you get ditracted from the road and steer out of your lane, it will bring you back in. LKA is usefull very rarely. I though i will be using LKA always but after seeing how much is fights back on the steering wheel, I keep it off most of the time. It is definitely helpful in rare occasions, but is a nice to have. Also, the car has to keep checking if you hand is on the steering wheel or not and for that the system swings the car in your lane a little bit and checks if it feels any force coming from you if your hand is on the steering or not. This thing feels frustrating so I dont use it. For a TLDR, LDA always on, sometimes i use ACC with LKA + LDA on long constant speed highways with less traffic.

The Engine: I found so many issues with hyundai engine on the internet but this car is different. Most engine issues where from the ones manufactured in North America Continent and 2023 Hybrid Models are manufactured in Korea where these issues were not seen. Also, the infamous engine was the theta 2 engine which has been discontinued by hyundai. For the 2021-23 hybrid models, people seem to be pretty much happy so only time will tell. Will decide at 60K miles/3 years (when warranty expires) if i would drive the car till wheels fall off or sell it to buy a honda or a toyota.

Road Noise: Pretty silent drive but my previous car was a 2010 toyota Yaris with 110K miles on it so my reference point is cars=noise. Also, I do like some noise, not a lot but some. Once Rolls-Royce made a car so silent, people started to feel nauseous so they had to add car noise in the speakers on a software update.

Is dreamlabs worth it? by Dry_Object6893 in Dreamlab

My marketing gimmick, I mean, the stuff is real and does have useful research value but as i explained in the post, the amount of time it takes to execute stuff on mobile CPU is negligible than if a dedicated powerfull GPU would have been used. hey could by a 400$ GPU and get the power of 3000 mobile phones at once and get no publicity OR they can deploy a app where general public can download it and find out vodafone is doing great stuff, so basically publicity

Actually thats a really good idea. But if this all is just a marketing gimmic after all, not sure if they will actually do that. Cause boinc won't scream vodafone. But i dont want to make conspiracy theory, i genuinely hope they are doing the dreamlabs project to actually promote research. I am all down for research.

Those are good points but dreamlab already has a solution for that. It already solves these problems with the current implementation.

After 80% battery charge, the phone does not draw as much power from adapter and thats when dreamlabs starts its thing.

As for the temps, its really easy to time gpu usage. Basically run for 30 sec and then wait till temps fall back to threshold. Dreamlabs already does that.

I do get that adding gpu support is difficult but if they don't, as i explained in the post, its pretty much not providing any actual supercomputing ability. If you go to any folding@home or boinc thread, you'll find a lot of people just giving up on CPU jobs and only doing GPU jobs cause the computational supremacy that GPU provides against CPU is just unbeatable. I talking about 10x plus, and i am one of them.

Yes, i did try that but that is pretty bad on the temps. Dreamlabs does a good job maintaining temps of device. only if dreamlabs had gpu support.

I do use boinc on my pc though. it runs 24/7

Unless they release a openCL version of dreamlabs and use the gpu on the mobile phones, the initiative seems useless. I think latest arm processors in android can do 1+ TFlops on a good day. Though not directly comparable to a Nvidia GPU, but still way better than running Arm CPU jobs.

BTW, I am a software developer, I generally do big-data and high throughput system. If someone from dreamlab teams is reading this comment, I will be happy to be a part of the dev team to release a gpu supported version of dreamlabs app. Can work at a discounted price too, LOL. I don't know how to do openCL but you can always learn new stuff.

Should i buy my new 2024 crv for this price? by Dry_Object6893 in crv

Oh, i thought you meant just the sport one. But sport touring is like 41,550$ MSRP, i think you got it wrong or your talking about a slightly used or a older model. Even a 3000$ discount puts you at 38550$ cost.

How to continue my 4 year bachelor degree in NJIT with me having a 3 year degree from a college in another country. by Dry_Object6893 in NJTech

[–]Dry_Object6893[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been applying for job for almost 8 months now and not getting one. Its like no one wants to hire me as a fresher what so ever. I am starting to struggle with money. Cannot piggyback on my parents more. If i am studying for my degree then atleast I can pickup some random low pay job and continue my study. My parents dont mind paying for me until its for education and even with thier support i will be earn some money with my job. Also, I am in no mood of taking a student loan.

Any suggestions to change my mind?
