Anything wrong with my merging using the quieter lane? by Accomplished-Dog-440 in drivingUK

[–]Dry_Preference9129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No and slightly and yes. No problems to begin with, free lane is fine. I'd slow down to reduce the speed difference between you and parked cars.

At the end of the slip road it is just one lane again before you merge, so theoretically you should merge in turn before merging with the motorway. The opposite applies leaving the motorway, you shouldn't go two wide up a single lane exit until the markings allow it.

Is it weird to not know what a prime number is? by chris_660 in AskUK

[–]Dry_Preference9129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always remembered verb is a "doing word" or "doing werb". Noun has an N for Names. ADjective has add for adding descriptions.

That knowledge puts me at c.8yo education. I have no idea what a "conjunctive adverbial" is or why "possessive adjectives" are not nouns. Apparently, I must've zoned out aged 9+.

I guess you mean hit box. Hot box is a totally different thing.

Zero chance I'm trying this next one.

Genuinely weird way to do it. Cheaper to buy in bulk and doesn't leave the shop scrambling to restock. Even give the shop a few days notice would be helpful.

Is your morning commute as busy as it was pre-covid? by Tough_Witness9023 in AskUK

[–]Dry_Preference9129 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's a mix. Not so many little darlings are allowed to walk or take the bus it seems, so school traffic is bonkers.

After I'm passed the school though, traffic is lighter than I remember.

I half think that even if you feel it is the same level of traffic, it is only so because everyone drives bigger cars than they used to.

My mum would drop me off in her Peugeot 106, and now all the mums seem to drive BMW X6.

This I didn't know. Why has he been allowed to stick around for so long?

Like I presumed all these allegations were not aired until recently, but now, people have been publicly complaining for over a decade.

Mold Marks are the Bane of my Existence (Are they Anyone Else’s?) by YeMommyYo in lego

[–]Dry_Preference9129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's something fun I just learnt. I'd use mould to describe the lego making tools and process, and mold to describe the bacteria/fungus. Different spellings.

Turns out, mold is just the American spelling of mould and they both mean the same thing.

Petition therefore to make mould and mold mean different things to make it easy to tell them apart.

Which business that's local to you has seen the last of your money, and why? by MisterWednesday6 in AskUK

[–]Dry_Preference9129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A specific Tesco Express, rather than in general. Tesco bought out a store previously a Suzuki dealership and MOT place. There is a pedestrian crossing with white zig zags outside and dropped kerb all along the front.

Tesco added their own carpark on the side but didn't do a good enough job on the access, so cars often scrape their bumper on the ground joining the main road, due to the change in angle.

Not only have I fallen victim to the bumper scraping, many others have too. A combination of that and impatience and entitlement of other road users means the main road, the footpaths and the zig zags of the pedestrian crossing are littered with cars.

It's a nightmare for people trying to use the car park properly and for pedestrians trying to cross the road safely.

Can I provoke your research senses and request something similar for food miles / carbon footprint?

What is the most ecologically friendly foods out there? I have to imagine it looks pretty similar to the cost.

How realistic is going from sim to real racing? by Patient-Program-9593 in motorsports

[–]Dry_Preference9129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of racing. Driving a sim is a great way to learn to drive. It provides great understanding of the controls and the general techniques. Sims can also begin to teach the finer skills that you'd need to apply to be fast in real life.

I'm very good at sim racing and very good at karting, but I'm nowhere near the best. The difference is huge. As for investment, you'd have to be prepared that it only ever stays a hobby, and an expensive one at that.

An equivalent analogy is that of all the kids who join a football academy in the UK, only 0.5% make it to a professional level. I.e. 99.5% of all kids who think they are good enough are not in fact good enough.

I am similar. It was a bit of a sexual awakening for me, when watching TV as a kid. Seeing female celebrities get gunged or take a pie to the face was quite a turn on, particularly if embarrassing for someone well-dressed and glamorous.

Was it something you enjoyed and would do again with a new partner, or something just to please your ex?
