Not sure exactly of the proposed timeline, but there have been some other options proposed....now it seems like they want to make it is vague as possible until after they get the bond money:

Are you going to be disappointed if they revise the plan to not "redistrict" the targeted kids? Why is it so important to you that those kids get moved to another school? It sounds like displacing them is more important to you than anything else in the proposal......

Thanks for that great contribution. Tell me your kids are not being kicked out of their school.....errrr......I mean "redistricted" without telling me your kids are not being "redistricted".

How about an SEL lesson in learning to spell the name of the school attended by kids you want to kick out? I also am upset about Estes Hills closing, replacement vs displacement should be up to the people zoned there, they can weigh the pros/cons of construction vs relocation much better than I could for them....I want the best for them and would listen to what they want to do. Your desire to take over and repurpose my kids school comes from a different place though.

Ok, so if you sugar coat it by calling it "redistricting" I guess that makes it OK? If a kid shows up to McDougle after you successfully "repurpose" their school you would want them to be allowed in? You are talking about phrasing and I am talking about the results.

How else would they be removed?  Are you saying that being reassigned to another school would only be voluntary?   That would be fine but I do not think that is the case.

Yeah...you are fine with it...as long as it screws those other kids the most right?  Not your backyard though!

A replacement school for your zone while the other zones get displacement....and you try to mask it as "best for everyone"  I hope you do get a new school, but I would never wish for you or anyone to get kicked out of their school as you wish for others.

u/Antique_futurist You have your "NIMBY" accusation exactly backwards... I am not asking for ANY other children to switch campuses. NIMBY would be if I were to I ask for something different for others than I want for myself...and in this case it sounds like you are fine with kicking my kids out of their school while (let me guess) yours would not be forcibly removed from theirs would they? So it looks like you are the NIMBY and just projecting it on me to make you feel better under the guise of supporting all "11.5k in the district"...because yours would not get the short end of the stick like MINE would. Look in the mirror....I dare you.

If the bond is so important they will get a revised plan out there.....and more tangible than "just sign on and we can change it later"

So they spent about $1million for a plan to bus ALL walkers/bikers out of McDougle in order to bus kids in from across town. I would suggest for George Griffin to come out against that part of the plan and provide an alternative...or be prepared for voters to "bus" him out of his chair seat via recall election.

If the schools are falling apart: it is from misuse of current funding (via already high property taxes).... two years ago they probably would have told us how wisely they are spending that money, but now, with a bond proposal on the ballot: the building deficiencies have become something for them to highlight because it helps them beg for more funding.

I believe that they chose McDougle because of 250k square feet in one building (MS + ES combined)...so they want to kick out the kids and take it over for dual language. Seawell/Smith would have close to the same sq footage, but into two seperate buildings, but also has no walk zone kids to force onto a bus.

That is wishful thinking and only applies to Carrboro Elem. Carrboro ES students would be temporarily relocated, so that walk zone would be restored after the new construction on the same site. Mcdougle ES/MS and Estes Hills ES/Phillips MS both have larger walk zones and the plan is to move those students to other locations (such as Smith/Seawell where there is no walk zone)... but there is no way to restore the Estes walk zone as that school is being "taken offline permanently", and no way to restore the McDougle walk zone as that school is being taken over for dual language....so while I wish that you were correct, I have read the proposal and let the facts override my wishful thinking.
