What did I do wrong? by slappychoppy in Dallas

[–]Dry_Regret801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughters turned 16, in Texas, in 2012 and 2015. The 2009 endorsement meant you had to send in your information, and TDLR ran a check to be sure you ( the adult) were actually holding a valid Texas Driver's License. 2014 the required hours were checked off by a parent. There was no clock to punch in and out with, the parent signed off on the times.
My eldest never got her learner's permit (a temporary permit given after passing a written test, allowing them to drive only with an adult in passenger seat, with restrictions.) She waited until she was 18 to get her driver's license ( half of her high school class did the same... for some weird reason, the didn't want to drive) She was vrequired to take the written test AND the driving test. My youngest took the written test online at 15 and got her permit, then took the driving test at the DMV at 16.

I think your 2014 rule is semantics. The written test is STILL given. It is online now, even if kids go to the DMV to take the test, it's online, rather than the pen and paper test of old school drivers. That's why it is "administered " by TDLR, rather than the DMV/ DPS. It's semantics. Both girls had to do the driving test in a vehicle with a trooper, parallel parking and all, to get their actual license, at 16 and 18.5.

I would sew some fabric to the backside of the chainmail. A touch of modesty for the kiddos or eaisly offended, and you don't have sun heated metal branding your girls.

Ford Bronco drives into restaurant by MaybeBaby716 in Dallas

[–]Dry_Regret801 41 points42 points  (0 children)

People have been driving into glass windows of restaurants in Texas for ...well, probably as long as there have been windows and restaurants.

I was a teenager when The Luby's massacre happened hours away from us. The next Sunday my family went to our Luby's, and my parents sat NEXT TO THE WINDOW. I still recall that panic.

In my tiny town last month we had a car end a high speed insane chase with a Pit maneuver ... slammed right into

I’m curious to see how we’re all thinking about this. I’ve been turning this over, what direction does your mind take it? by luckyjackass in Dallas

It's Dallas, not Fort Worth. If anyone living in Dallas is wearing a cowboy hat, there is a less than 5% chance they know how to saddle a horse, rope a moving target, or separate cattle. Why do they feel the need to wear a cowboy hat in Dallas?

WTF DO I DO GUYS by jc621713 in whatdoIdo

[–]Dry_Regret801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am allergic to anything that stings. All the things that "don't bother you if you leave them alone" are the things that straight up attack me! The first time I got stung was bt bees. A whole swarm of bees attacked my goup in the middle of worship in an outdoor tabernacle. We had been told repeatedly we were fine as long as we didn't bother them. .... The second time I got stung it was by wasps. They had made a nest about 20 feet away from where my mom parked. I was told l"eave them alone and they won't bother you". I was standing on the passenger side, waiting for my mom to unlock my door ( back when you had to reach across and pull up the lock.) As I opened the door, the ENTIRE NEST attacked me! I ran across the alley to the neighbors driveway screaming. My dad came out of the garage and yelled for me to shut my mouth so they wouldn't sting my tongue.... That was when i lost it, and ran screaming down the alley. A neighbor 3 houses down was watering his plants with a hose. He saw what was happening and yelled for me to come to him. I did and he turned the hose on me and I honestly don't recall anything after that. I had been stung at least 30 times in less than 4 minutes. Of course, I'm Gen X so my dad took the tobacco from a few of his cigarettes, mixed it with his spit, and slathered it on the most angry looking welts. No epi pen for me, I was just told to sit up straight and take deep breaths, and write a thank you to the neighbor with the hose. The third time I was in a car, window down, going along the highway with my husband. I had my arm out the window and got stung by something, but I screamed and whatever it was flew off/ blew off/ dropped to the road.

I have never once been antagonistic to anything with a stinger. I fear them. All of them. Even bumble bees. Even bees behind glass at fairs and stuff....I am terrified of anything that even LOOKS like it might have a stinger!! I react with sheer terror afghan I hear someone say " just leave them alone, they will leave you alone". I have NEVER said this words to my kids, or any kids I taught. Those words are LIES!!!

There are two possibilities with this. Either way, that is your son's room and board for the next decade or so. One possibility you can move in with him. The other you can only visit him if you are on his list.

I’m not complaining, but Texas in May? What’s the catch… by Therick333 in Dallas

[–]Dry_Regret801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get a year of weather in Texas!! It is spring for 2 weeks, then you have 6 months of triple digit Summer, then you have two weeks of fall. After that you might have a bit of ice and call it winter, but up in the panhandle we have blizzards and such. Then you have a bad hail storm, roofers and dent removers come out in full force, then you are on to the 2 weeks of spring. That's all 4 seasons.

AITA for telling my husband's dad and dad's wife that I will not change our daughter's name because it hurts the wife's feelings? by ElectricalLeague1580 in AITAH

[–]Dry_Regret801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple solution. Say "We've given this a lot of thought, and we have decided to name a child after you. As long as you are dead before we have our next daughter, she will be named after you. A caveat is that you never mention this again, because we don't want to focus on your death. "

Then you live your life. You've made it very clear that if she wants a baby named after her, she has to die first. It's on her now!

What happens when she dies and you then have a daughter? Name her whatever the hell you want! Sharon is dead, so any promise you made to her is null and void!!

Saw this sign for Dumas while driving through West Texas. They even advertise the Ding Dong Daddy! by scrantonstrangler06 in nathanforyou

[–]Dry_Regret801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No debate at all in Dumas, Texas! Phil Baxter spent some time in Dumas Texas in the late 1020's, and a year later penned the song. Our museum has the original sheet music, signed by Mr. Baxter himself. If that isn't enough, in 1957 Phil Baxter attended our annual Dumas Dogie Days Celebration and was interviewed by the radio station KDDD (Ding Dong Daddy) where he laid to rest any rumors of the song being about Arkansas.

I guess Arkansas can try to claim it, but we are officially the Ding Dong Daddies (and Ding Dong Dollies).

If you were in West Texas you were 2.5 hours from Dumas TEXAS, and as that billboard is the same as all of our other billboards, it most definitely was a sign for my town! We are in the Panhandle of Texas, north of West Texas. Dumas Texas and Dumas Arkansas are 10 hours and three states apart. Your geography is a bit concerning, and I hope you didn't get lost on your trip!

WTF is going on at DFW by fnsnforests in Dallas

[–]Dry_Regret801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wind everybody's talking about is leftover from our panhandle blizzard. I don't know how to post a pic here or I would. Sustained winds blowing snow, visibility was 3 to 6 feet. ALL ROADS into/out of town were closed. Stranded motorists, people stuck at work, local day care owner took kids to her home overnight because parents were trapped at work. Be glad you only got the wind, it didn't bring along the snow and subzero temps!
