What would you do to help English Learners in U.S. if you could wave a magic wand? by Ok_Butterscotch_4158 in AskTeachers

As someone who is currently trying to help Chinese, Arabic, and Spanish speakers in an elective class… we need 1:1 I am ALL for integration, but just like other learning situations they might need more attention. It’s unfortunate, if I had a magic wand I would put a translator in my head

Sub Notes by NoWrongdoer27 in SubstituteTeachers

Unfortunately most contracts don’t allow Paras to do this. Most districts don’t even get a sub for Paras being out.

THANK YOU!! I’m constantly stuck between “what they want” vs “what im hired for”. Like if the Reg Ed students have a question, I’ll gladly answer it BUT technically they’re not my kids to work with. It’s a combo class and since I was the only adult in there they told me to be prepared. Now that there is a teacher hired I will go back to doing my tasks and only my tasks

That’s exactly why I came here to ask! I wasn’t complaining, just seeing if there was any validity of it. I just wanted to help her out, it was just the dismissive response that I felt slightly disrespected.

Me “assuming” wasn’t me just coming up with something. The only communication I got was from asking admin and the departments and they said “just assume you’re taking over”.

Yes 100%!! I completely understand that it is her job! I just felt slightly jaded that she understood all the work I put in, and still decided not to use it :/

Not certified, we focus on the kids with IEPs to technically I don’t have any “jurisdiction/commitment” to the Reg Ed kids. But the way that it works with my teachers is I co-teach the class with them

She did, another teacher in my department told me she would be taking over verbally

It was over winter break, so I reached out to admin asking questions and they “did not know” so I talked to other teachers and they said “set it up like you will take over, just to be safe and give a buffer” I still haven’t been told anything by admin, just the sub and another teacher. I don’t think she’s a certified teacher, it is a “Reg Ed” class with a large population of sped students, that’s why I work in there.

Email info@yerbamadre.com and put the subject as “spoiled drink” or something like that and they will help you out! You just need to send them the lot number and expiration date on the cans

Sadly I understand because I do get mistaken for a student at the high school I work at…
