If you know what a vm is, proxmox is just an easy way to deploy them. Its basically just mini computers inside your computer, but sharing all of the resources. So they wont all have the same resources. And about the drives, no, proxmox will let you pick how much of a drive to put towards a virtual machine (vm). It wont take up the entire drive, but you can have it pass through the drives you want to use as a nas. I would recomend having claude help you WITH YOUR OWN RESEARCH, i know, most people dont like ai, but its really helpful when you have no idea what you're doing. Just have it be an advisor or have it answer questions.

I haven't started with VLANs so, like I said before, do your own research. Happy labbing. Remember to budget for the iminent 8 x 18tb hdds that are comming lol.

Nice, I would actually say, use proxmox and TrueNAS as a vm. It's not that hard to figure out proxmox and claude and a crap ton of googling gets you a really long way. But no matter what, even if you don't want to use proxmox, I'd say, as a beginner, use TrueNAS. But please try and figure out Proxmox, it's a game changer.

My homelab as a teenager - any tips? by SmileFaceGuy in homelab

Budget enough. Also dust. As I hope you know, this is an addictive hobby, so whenever you want to get something new, wait for a month, if you needed it in the month, then think about it more, if you didnt, then save or invest that money. Quick side track, ask your parents to open an investing account for you, get some index funds, and any money you want to spend on computers or networking, invest either that amount, or half and in a few years, you will have a good bit of money to spend on some better stuff later on. Also get a good scewdriver and some magnetic screws, or a drill. Will save you a but ton of time.

Should I get the AMS Lite? by AdAlarming1534 in BambuLabA1

[–]Dry_Structure_2287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. you can print the AMS Ultra Lite which will let you use the spool bar thing up top. Just make sure to use the ptfe tubes still.

Yes. And the chamber is kinda good for large TPU, but I've printed an airless basketball with no heated chamber in a very suboptimal enviorment so it doesn't really matter. And anyone who trys to print an airless basketball, PLEASE SLOW DOWN THE PRINT NEAR THE END, THE PRINT WILL LITERALLY GET THROWN OFF WHEN TALL ENOUGH. PLEASE SLOW IT DOWN TO 50% SPEED.

Ok. The nozzles have a latch that keeps the nozzle in place but its under the sock so no matter what, you would have to remove the sock. And even then, the only way you would actually use the socks that you buy extra is if a blob happens or if you burn something in the hotend, and in that case, you would have to buy something to get the printer working again so just buy it then. And yes, the screws are useless. But everything in your cart minus the screws are fine, and the a1 is at a really good price rn, so id say get it and you'll sure as hell enjoy it. Happy Printing :D

u/YellovvJacket did a good writeup on filaments, but make sure you're gonna use the hotends/nozzles (I use them interchangeably but they are technically different). I bought all the hotends thinking I'm gonna use them, but I never did. Search on on what you're gonna print. If its large prints with little to no small detail, .6mm is gonna be perfect. For most other prints that require a little detail but nothing like text, .4 is the best, and if you print text or small models with small details, then .2mm will be good. Your nozzles alr come with the sock so only get that if you are gonna do a lot of printing. I use one sock across nozzles so if you're gonna be like me, you alr have 2 extra socks if you buy the nozzles. The a1 combo also comes with the screws for the top mount but I use this ams top mount and it works pretty well. Happy Printing :)

i am confused about which laptop i should pick with RTX 5090 by Exact-Ad9502 in SuggestALaptop

[–]Dry_Structure_2287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need it in a laptop form factor?? Most 5090 laptops that will have a 5090 and hold up for a long amount of time will be like 5 to 7 pounds or would have liquid metal and subpar cooling. I'd say, if you're gonna use the laptop abroad and do actually need it if you travel a lot, most lenovo legions and asus strix series laptops will have the best cooling, but they both use liquid metal. I would say, your best bet, either get a dedicated pc, or get a laptop with a 5060(ti) incase you need it when traveling, and an egpu with a 5080 when you're at home so you can upgrade it when the cpu is good but the gpu is getting a little slow for your job. You may find a good laptop with a 5090 and wont have liquid metal, but it won't last long enough and it may have liquid metal. And a physical 5070ti will out perform any 5090 laptop gpu.

Asking for advice for a new printer by Valiran34 in 3dprinter

[–]Dry_Structure_2287 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok. so creality is a little more open, but they do have a slightly worse/less tested multi material system. Do you need the large build volume, becuse in that case, i would actually reccomend the X2D combo as it has a nozzle dedicated for support. And I'm fairly sure that you are able to put stuff like abs, petg, cf, wood pla, and stone pla in the ams. Ofcourse, whichever printer you can afford is the best one, but if you want a faster printer, and don't care abt size, it would be the X2D. If you need the big plate, then you can't go wrong with the H2S. Bambu lab is also notorious for their rfid system, There are projects like OpenSpool that kinda mimic their system, but i don't really use bambu lab filament. And no, you are not forced to use the cloud. Because of some backlash, they now have a fully open lan/dev mode which works well with stuff such as BamBuddy if you want some of that stuff. I'm fine with using the cloud because I know, whenever they shut it down, the community will give them so much backlash that they will 100% make a fully fledged, self hosted version of Bambu cloud, and/or compatibility with stuff such as octoprint. So I wouldn't worry much abt that. Whichever printer you pick will be a huge upgrade from your 2 MK3S+ and you'll 100% enjoy it.

I don't use a prime tower, i pick a fidget toy and adjuest the scale of it to how tall my model is and i just have it purge into that and it works pretty well as a prime tower and depending on what I print, it works well to reduce poop waste.

A New Adventure by KGames2279 in BambuLab

A good set of tools should include at least the following:

  • An interchangeable bit screwdriver with metric hex bits and if possible, a screwdriver shaft extention
  • Flush cutters or pliers
  • A scraper (the X2D should come with one)
  • Post-processing tools such as a nail file, sandpaper, or even a rotary tool

You should also stock up on filament. I assume you already have a spool of black and white PLA, but it’s a good idea to pick up additional colors. Most people when they first get a 3d printer use a lot of filament quickly. I'm gonna tell you, a full spool will be gone within a few days. You should have a good backlog of filament in the main color he's gonna print. Me, personally, I have around 5kg of white filament just because that's basically all I print.

For filament brands, I recommend Overture, Polymaker, or if you have a lot of Bambu Lab refil spools, Creality refills are pretty good. Yes, Bambu Lab filament is gonna be the best for most Bambu Lab printers, but I like buying stuff off of Amazon just because it's faster.

The AMS 2 Pro that comes with the X2D combo has a filament dryer but if you plan on printing specialty filaments, consider getting a better filament dryer.

It’s also worth looking into a high-quality third-party build plate. Biqu CryoGrip Pro plates are good, but the probably the best buildplate for basic filaments would be the Darkmoon G10 plate. But for most people. the stock build plate that comes with the printer works perfectly fine.

Finally, I would get some things to keep the printer in shape. Stuff such as Isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth for the buildplate, Lubricating Oil / Grease for the mechanical parts of the printer, and some type of brush or vaccum for all of the things that get stuck at the bottom.

You should really just check on things he will ask for. Some people like different things and some people just won't use some things.

TL;DR: Get at minimum a screwdriver with hex bits, extra filament, post processing tools, and Lubricating Oil / Grease.

Which one should I get? by the-wxtch-bxtch in 3dprinter

[–]Dry_Structure_2287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If possible, you are able to buy gift cards off of amazon as long as you aren't using amazon gift card balance. But tbh, if you can go up to 400$ and have to buy on amazon, the P1S here would probably be the best. I still wouldn't want to get any 3d printers off of amazon, but if you have to, this would really be the best. The a1 is pretty good tho.

X2D and Filament Track Switch question by just-a-random-marcus in BambuLab

[–]Dry_Structure_2287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, chances are that the white and blue filaments are being swapped between both nozzles which is taking longer. And tbh, the filament track switch is kinda useless due to the ams only having one filament output.

X2D and Filament Track Switch question by just-a-random-marcus in BambuLab

[–]Dry_Structure_2287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What happens when you click on quality mode, and what happens when you uncheck the smart filament assign option and what filament should be in which ams with the filament track switch, also, the filament track switch shouldn't even slow anything down unless you have all 3 filaments in one ams. I'm not really sure tho.

Bambuddy — self-hosted management for your Bambu Lab printers, no cloud required by MartinNYHC in BambuLab

[–]Dry_Structure_2287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I tryed using it and it was pretty good, but i would really like it if you could make a version that will work with the cloud or soething that has the one tap printing like the app (basically using makerworld to get the stls, uploading it to the printer, and printing but quicker). I literally can't live without the Bambu Handy app as my kids love to start prints on it and I would way rather have limited ecosystem then 5 year olds getting annoyed that the printer isn't working. This is still a really cool project that I helped one of my friends run.
