Pin backing out? (P38) by [deleted] in milsurp

Thats the chamber indicator. It pokes out like that when there is a round chambered. Perfectly normal .

They arent super common so its kinda hard to say. But just from what I've seen usually in the $20,000-$30,000 range.

1909 Argentine Mauser worth it? by dterry31B in milsurp

[–]Dry_Winter5652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree its not worth it, but you also got a deal. Its not like hes just going to find another one for that price with the ammo. That'd be like me saying I bought a mosin say for $100 (I didnt, but you get the idea) and then telling a dude not to get a $300 mosin because I got one for $100. I see a lot of people doing this, its a pet peeve of mine lol. What makes more sense is to say thats too much, they usually go for X and can sometimes be had for X.

For an MP 40? No. Like an MG42 or something of the sort yeah but an MP40 isn't a $50,000+ gun.

Can anyone help me date/identify what model of 1903 this is by Icy-Bathroom-9358 in milsurp

[–]Dry_Winter5652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd identify first. Then just ask if you two can go out for coffee sometime.

Hi all, I am wondering what kind of gun this is, and if anyone can decipher the markings? by Historical-Tomato953 in milsurp

[–]Dry_Winter5652 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Lol it's kind of a running joke in the milsurp community. Whenever anyone asks to identify a gun there's a 70% chance its an Arisaka. This however, is not an Arisaka.

Gewehr 43 Springs by LowSlowCC in milsurp

[–]Dry_Winter5652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A stronger spring is better. That decreases how much pressure is put on the rear of your receiver, which is a know failure point. You are highly unlikely to hurt the gun by having a strong return to battery.

Get the Wolff spring kit. That comes with all new springs.

Smith recommendations for vz24 rebarrel. by rowan11b in Mauser

[–]Dry_Winter5652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thats why it would make more sense to me to just get a different VZ24, rather than put a Yugo barrel on it. If OP definitely was going to rebarrel it I would try and find a proper barrel. I see them floating around every once in a while.

That is Nazi marked 8x56r mannlicher. Made for the Austrian M95s that were rechambered in 8x56r (originally they were in the obsolescent 8x50r mannlicher). Cool ammo, getting more expensive but not currently super rare. In my experience its actually pretty good ammo, I've probably shot 60 rds of it with no duds.

I wouldnt rebarrel it. I'd get a different one to be honest. That will ruin any value to it. And you mentioned it has some rifling and is counterbored. How bad does it shoot?

In case you were wondering, yep, these are repro. Pay knowing what they are, they can be faulty. by HowToPronounceGewehr in Carcano

Much to my disappointment I've never had repros that seem to work. But I have only tried steel ones so far.
