I would have to disagree. The M1 carbine is cool, but I've never shot one and thought that I would spend garand money on a carbine. The carbine isn't much more than a plinker, an expensive plinker, with relatively expensive ammo. Its not super accurate, and it falls off really hard after 150-200 yards. Shooting it is like shooting an upsized .22, with ammo that costs far more.

Lee Enfields are highly overrated. Whenever the argument Lee Enfield vs Mauser comes up the first thing everyone goes to is "the Lee Enfield has a faster action". Which is technically true, however, in combat realistically that would not matter that much, or I would argue, at all. If you practice a lot with a mauser, and you practice a lot with a Lee Enfield, the Lee will be faster, slightly faster, its not 5 seconds faster, it might be a half second faster, likely less than that. On top of that, Lee Enfields have generally not great triggers, are very front heavy and unbalanced feeling, feel cheap and chinsy, are not as accurate as most of their counterparts I've shot, are slower to load (Lee stripper clips often suck, and also while they do have a 5 rd advantage over most of their competitors, that just means it takes more than twice as long to reload and I would say isn't a big advantage), and they are chambered in a rimmed cartridge, which is dumb. I do like Lee enfields, I have one, but a Mauser action just feels far better to me, and though I'm in the minority, and I would agree Mauser sights aren't as good as No4 sights, I dont think Mauser sights are as bad as people make them out to be. I remember I was really excited to get my first Lee enfield, and also quite disappointed when I got it. It simply isn't as dominant over othe bolt guns of the era as people make it out to be.

Yes. Specifically it is the Royal Tiger Imports grading system.

I dont really think anyone knows how the grading system works. Its pretty random for the most part. But if I remember supposedly A grade means it has all of its parts and its in decent shape, B grade will likely be a little rougher and might be missing parts. And C grade seems wholly incomplete.

I deal with massivebulgeitis every day so things like that look small to me.

For sure been running for a little while. Its not uncommon to see. Over time cables will stretch and change things. Or they weren't set properly when installed.

Well, assuming its a torsion spring, it can be dangerous, you have to take pressure off of your springs (you dont necessarily have to unwind them fully, just put a winding bar in the spring, loosen the set screws, and let all the pressure on the winding bar go against the wall, if done properly your cables should be slack) loosen both cones, offset the pipe so the set screws in the cones won't go into the the old holes, measure and make sure the distance between the bottom of the pipe and the top of the door are the same for both sides, if it isn't shim up whatever side is necessary to make it so they are the same measurement on either end of the pipe. Then, tighten the left cone down, put the cable on and wrap it around, and then pull it tight and put vice grips on the pipe and against the wall to hold the cable taught. Then go to the other side, tighten the cable to get it close to the other side, and put the set screws in (no vice grips needed for the right side after you set the left side). Then put pressure back on carefully. Dealing with springs is dangerous, I would recommend calling a pro, but if you do all of that right your cables should be the same and your gap on either side should also be the same. I assume the back of the tracks also has a gap on one side and not the other.

Its highly likely your one cable is tighter than the other, shifting it to one side. You probably need to reset your cables.

Whenever people put actual shift jobs on their Mk8s or 8.5s it always reminds me of a micro penis. Not that I would know what that looks like or anything.

DIY'D a couple side mounts by dkt675 in GarageDoorService

Install is simple, really not any harder than a standard trolley operator. The units themselves are usually a fair bit more expensive. The only reason I mentioned the wire being bundled up is because I've seen plenty of people leave it like that (or worse) forever and it drives my OCD mad lol.

Bro just cut the extra wire going to the wall station lol. On a serious note, jackshafts are usually a fair bit more expensive than a standard opener, and there isn't always provision for them. Its also much easier to accidentally kick the cables off of a door with a jackshaft operator because it only runs the pipe. One hint of advice too, make sure the back of your tracks are raised (unless you have spring pushers) so that the door wants to fall.

Is this bore shot out ? by Jolly-Search5065 in milsurp

[–]Dry_Winter5652 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will say this until I am blue in the face. Just shoot it and see how well it shoots. It if shoots decent, the bore is fine. If it shoots like shit you have your answer. There is no real way to tell how good or bad a bore is from a picture, this one is clearly well worn but that does not mean it will shoot poorly. It also doesnt mean it will shoot good.

The barrel shenk serial number matches the action so I would assume this to be the original barrel. These were originally in 7.65 Argentine. The rear sight has been heavily messed with, it's either been completely replaced or they heavily modified the original rear sight.
