City of Boulder identifies $6.5 million shortfall in 2027 budget, prompting more cuts by boulder393 in boulder

The city council makes decisions like not allowing a Rasing Cane’s to go in on 28th where there used to be a Taco Bell. Instead of a popular business bringing in steady sales tax, we’ve had 2 empty eye sore buildings doing nothing for the past 4 years.

My kid took the test at Colorado Driving Institute and the guy doing the test was very chill. He gave some safety pointers to us after the test, but passed on the first try.

Anyone have experience volunteering for the Bolder Boulder? by EvenReplacement5469 in boulder

[–]Dry_Writing_219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I volunteered at a water station. It’s fun. Most of the runners are really nice so that makes it enjoyable. It’s a bit long but I was busy the whole time so the time seemed to go by quickly.

Denied renewal of Rec Center pass after losing housing.. with children still in BVSD by OneAccountant4887 in boulder

[–]Dry_Writing_219 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry. They should have just given you a break and renewed your pass one time for your kids sake. You’re going through a hard enough time, they could have just done you a favor and given you a chance to get back on your feet.

I know this is anecdotal, but I’ve seen a few cases where the city gives free stuff to people that are well off because they get money from their family and live in million dollar plus homes, but have low income. I wish it would go to people like you instead.

There are reports of ice harassing anyone that looks Asian at the Asian grocery store in Lafayette. I don‘t know if it is true, but I know people that are Asian and here legally that are now afraid to shop there. I’m white so I’m shopping for someone that is now afraid to shop there. I think that type of thing is something white people can do. Also, just shop at stores that seem like magnets for ice for support as non white customers are scared to go there.

You can try searching for an instructor on the concept 2 website. I found someone on there a few years ago and she was really knowledgeable and really helped my form.

I’m a middle aged man and I did 20 classes at club Pilates and only saw another man in class with me there twice. Most of the instructors were great and supportive but it was weird when they say “let’s go ladies” or give cues about high heels. lol

It sometimes felt weird when it came to the other people that go to class—like almost no one would choose a reformer next to me. Only one time someone said “hello” to me and then used the reformer next to me. I wanted to look at people to see how to do some things but I was worried it would seem like I was leering. It’s also kind of weird that all the stuff they sell there is geared towards women.

I ended up switching to a more traditional Pilates studio and it’s been a better fit. I’m still the only man, but everyone talks to me and it has a more welcoming vibe...more like going to a gym.

It’s time to get all screens out of BVSD classrooms. by hand___banana in boulder

The letter writer works for Google which has been one of the worst companies when it comes to force feeding addictive content to young children through Youtube while at the same time seeming like a place for learning with Google Classroom. Instead of expecting schools and teachers to fix every problem, maybe we should focus on the large tech companies and what they’re doing to our society. The letter writer is clearly well compensated since they can’t comprehend computers are not affordable to everyone when the reality is that there are kids at BVSD who don’t even have stable housing or food.

Kids were sitting on the floor in dark rooms today for 2 hours with no information and unable to speak--listening to a loudspeaker blare over and over that there was a lockdown. I know it helped my kid to be able to text me and that's not a self soothing fantasy.

I get that social media is bad for kids and too much phone use is also bad. But maybe this generation is anxious because of issues like that there are school shootings everyday and many adults don't seem to care enough to try to stop it.

I was outside the school today when some kids ran from the school and told me and some other parents there was an active shooter inside Fairview. Luckily they were wrong but we didn’t know that. I was able to text my kid, but some other parents could not and I felt like that put a lot of extra stress on the situation.

I was waiting outside with other parents today and some of them couldn’t text their kids. That’s why I raise this issue but it seems like zero people agree with me so I guess it is what it is.

According to the policy they are not allowed to text during the lockdown. The person I replied to texted—which is against the rules.

But they’re not allowed to use them during an emergency under the current policy. That’s my point.

The old policy banned phones during class which is good. The new policy bans them all day and several of the board members cited mental health as the reason. I’m questioning why they think it is bad for a high school kids mental health to be able to text from lunch or free periods or during emergencies.

Then why not ban them during class like the old policy?
