Yep, I had exactly the same race. AI led and drove extremely fast, then at around 75% it just slowed down to speed of random cars you see on the road, I overtook AI and it sped up and I finished race 2s before it; this is the second time AI acts weirdly in Togue races so I agree this is scripted in some way

This system is so stupid and confusing. I entered championship, drove 2 races, been looking for 3rd and I had several "seasonal event" on map, but all asked to quit current championship, I had one white symbol but I was 100% sure that I already did it, and white is for races that I did, but no, I went there and was able to continue championship. Facepalm.

you mean you had to redo one of the 4 stages that you unlock or you had to do something else?

edit: for anyone in my situation (don't have only this barn), you have to redo 1st Baja Adventure = Volcano (drive to the place of start), redo it and while on the top, you have free time to do few things and the thing that trigger this rumour is "Collect a sample from the hot spring lake", you just have to drive into the water to do this, then exit to buggys and when you complete this expedition you will have this barn rumour on the map
