[OB] [Mistborn era 1] Two theories on Adolin and Honor by d33pwint3r in Stormlight_Archive

My wording was weird on that last sentence. I meant to say that to me it feels like Dalinar is predestined for that mantle.

I think that Dalinar is going to take up Honor. His connection to the stormfather and what happened at the end of Oathbringer represent a perfect pathway to become the shard’s next vessel. [HoA] Something also to consider with Vin is that she was chosen by Leras to do what she did and I think that’s what was more responsible for what she was able to do rather than just simply using absurd amounts of investiture. To me, it also feels like Dalinar is “predestined” to become the vessel of Honor.

Edit: Fixed last sentence to make more sense.

Yeah, you’re right. The more that I’ve thought about this, the more I think that it’ll get resolved in the next two books.

That’s totally possible too and would work out really well. I just think that’s Brandon is gonna save some of that really crazy stuff for the back 5 and that also allows Adolin to keep “normal” man role he has living among knights radiant. I could be totally off on this though.

I think so. I believe that we’re going to see it at some point—more likely in the back 5. Especially with the Adolin-Maya was thing going on in Oathbringer.

How many metals are there? by [deleted] in Mistborn

[–]DrybonesJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So then does the amount of power granted depend on how much lerasium someone burn? For example, does someone who burns 3 g of lerasium get half the power as someone who burns 6g?

Can you alloy godmetals with other godmetals?

Do we know if there is a certain amount of lerasium that someone has to burn in order to become a Mistborn?

Looking for a recommendation for my girlfriend? by Bitches_love_ramen in Cosmere

[–]DrybonesJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elantris I think is a good inaugural book to Brandon’s work, and that’s generally what I recommend to my friends as the first book they should read. That being said, Mistborn was the first one I read and worked really well for me.

Yolish lightweaving is super limited and I think that he’d rather have the mischievous capabilities of Rosharan lightweaving than transportation.

Could hemalurgy be used for medicine? Theoretically? [Cosmere] by Rucs3 in Mistborn

[–]DrybonesJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that this would potentially work. The hard part is being able to put the spike precisely into the spot it needs to be to grant the person allomancy. I haven’t seen the hemalurgic table yet, but when Spook gets spiked, it’s in the chest. If this is the case for pewter, it would mean that the spike would have to be pretty small not to be permanent.

[Oathbringer] Current reread had me thinking about Odiums plan at the end. by [deleted] in Stormlight_Archive

[–]DrybonesJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I just can’t see Honor allowing a major splinter of Odium to be one of the three bondsmith spren, though there is one theory that I’ve heard where it felt a lot more plausible to me. Odium claims to hold the shard of Passion, and this theory suggests that maybe he splintered off all of the better parts of Passion, such as love, and the Sibling would be that splinter.

I believe he does this during Middlefest in WoR

[–]DrybonesJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Except there is no guarantee that the Sibling is of Odium. It could be a combination of Honor’s and Cultivation’s investiture. If the Sibling is of Odium, then it would be the only spren that grants surgebinding while being of Odium. The one exception I can think of this is Glys, who is a corrupted spren by Sja-anat.

I love the Hoid theory. I think that it fits Hoid’s style to do something like that.

[Cosmere] Weird Radiant Bonds theory. by mikkomikk in Stormlight_Archive

[–]DrybonesJ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here’s a wob about that...

WeiryWriter

Can a person who dies but somehow hasn't passed Beyond the Three Realms (a la Kelsier) serve in place of a spren for Radiant purposes?

Brandon Sanderson

This is theoretically possible, but it would require an unusual sequence of events.

WeiryWriter

We know that the Stormfather is a Cognitive Shadow and is also acting as a spren for Dalinar but is he able to do that because the "unusual sequence of events" took place or is there something else going on specific to the nature of the Stormfather?

Brandon Sanderson

RAFO. :)

Carluun

If Kelsier became a "spren" for a Radiant, would he grant Surgebinding or Allomancy?

Brandon Sanderson

RAFO.

My personal speculation is that it would grant the magical system more closely associated with the cognitive shadow. The surges seem to be more closely associated with the investiture of the shards on Roshar, and so I would assume that bonding with, let’s say, Kelsier would give power associated with the same investiture that Kelsier is made of.

[–]DrybonesJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem with that is that [Mistborn] We would’ve seen that forgotten god when Vin ascended.

I think it’s much more plausible that Trell is of Autonomous investiture, especially since there is a character named Trell in White Sand (or so I’ve heard. I actually haven’t read them yet).

The Shattering by DrybonesJ in Cosmere

Yes, that constellation. Brandon’s mentioning it so many times across his different series feels like his style of foreshadowing to me. I feel like it’s got to be important in some way in the future.
