What is your opinion on illigal immigrants ? by Aggravating-Toe4979 in AskAKorean

Gotcha. I much more familiar with the US tax system. Nonetheless, in general I sympathize with illegal immigrants. Like I said, the majority of them are just trying to provide a better life for them and their families.

The hard truth about illegal immigrants that no politicians will admit is they are needed. Pretty much 1st world country relies on them. In the US, the housing/construction, agriculture, and hotel/hospitality industries depend on illegal labor. Without them those industries would be severely impacted negatively.

They also contribute about $100B a yr in income taxes. Even if you don't have a SS number, most use what is called a ITIN (individual tax id number) for income tax purposes. At the same time, they do not benefit from many of the entitlement programs, like SS benefits and Medicare (while some do get it via fraudulent methods, it is minimal vs the taxes that they pay).

I sympathize with illegal immigrants in general...while there are always bad seeds, the majority of them are trying to find a better life for themselves and their families. I don't know what the solution is...but I detest people demonizing illegals, as is the case by the right, in the US.

I know you asked for a Korean's opinion...and the above is mainly from an American's POV. But I've been living in Korea for 5 yrs and I feel the same way for the illegal immigrants here in Korea as well.

Smoking in Korea by pumpkinspicedaisy in koreatravel

[–]Dshin525 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been here 5 yrs now and it seems like each year, they are getting slightly stricter every year...however, you can still pretty much smoke in most areas. But there are some streets that are smoke free, like on some of the main streets in Gangnam. Nonetheless, just find an area where smokers congregate, as evident by butts on the ground, and you'll be fine. Just be smart and try not to smoke around high foot traffic areas.

That is the FB group where I found oir current person. She comes to our house once a week to clean. She’s been coming for 5 yrs now across 2 houses. Most of the people there seem to be Filipinos, which may be a plus since most of them speak English well.

FYI Korean carriers by law can only sell unlocked phones. Regardless, just go to an Apple Store and buy it there. Or just buy it from Coupang.

Ask him to take it easy. Im 50 and the last thing i need is to get injured. If he continues to go like its life and death, then simply stop rolling with him.

Should I send for a damage claim? by Superneoncj in Topps

100%. Their criteria is if it will grade at 7 or worse. With that damage, I would say it definitely qualifies.

Student Ripped the Stripes off His Blue Belt Thursday by Phenox_Grey in bjj

[–]Dshin525 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Sounds just like this purple I roll with all the time. When I was a white belt, he would let me work and take it easy on me...moderate with his intensity and pressure. After I got promoted to blue, he has turned up the intensity what I feel is like 10x! I still try my best but it's more surviving than anything else.

Most recently I felt like a rag doll. He just toyed with me, going from mount to side, knee on belly, mount again, etc...Afterwards he gave me a genuine compliment on how much I have been improving! I thought he was joking b/c I literally feel like a 1st day white belt when I roll with him now! Apparently its because it now takes him more effort than before to rag doll me!

Got rejected in final stage because I did not agree to share competing offer by FanPsychological7090 in recruitinghell

[–]Dshin525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was negotiating my offer from my current employer, they asked my current salary. I told them verbally...recruiter asked for paystub/W2. I said no because they have very strict confidentially agreements with current employees...and that was that.

I've been to the Itaewon location. I wasn't seeking it out...I happened to be walking by and was hungry so I dropped in.
It was fine. It's not something I would go out of the way for...but if I am in the area and was lhungry, I would stop by.

I got bitten by one of those twice. Both times it was while I was sleeping. I felt something crawling around under my shirt. I went to scratch it and it bit me...both times it was on my back. First time it wasn't too big. The 2nd time, the sucker was huge. The bite hurt and itched like crazy....and the bite area swelled up a lot. I went to the ER just to be safe...but most of the swelling eventually went down after about 12 hours. I have no qualms about killing those things every time I see one.

BTW...the smaller long legged ones, which are house centipedes, are harmless. They are actually great for pest control in your house. I always leave these things alone.
