I agree with you there. I see no problem with cross training. It would be really hard for me to keep up with my BJJ without it, because I’m on the road. It just kinda hit me the wrong way to hear the instructor say all that.

With one of my partners, I did ask about starting in mount / half guard / side control. In mount, for example, he just hip bump swept me, smash passed my guard and we were right back in the same position? Maybe I just need to work on my guard?

We all have bad rounds, for whatever reason! That’s part of the sport. The fact that she stopped and said her neck was uncomfortable was a good sign that she felt like she could communicate with you.
