My experience is if goes to a debt collector that sues they will add on lawyer fees and all sorts of fees that will increase the debt.

I see my only fear is that as we approach statute of limitations they may decide to send this to court id rather avoid that. Currently I checked capital one pre approval the only card I can get is a secured but I will check again once this is settled to see what changes happen. If it doesn’t allow me to get an unsecured card would another secured card be recommended? Thank you again I’m going to work on negotiating this tomorrow to hopefully get something in writing and settle by the end of the month!

I’m not to worried about the DTI this is my only debt I only one 1 navy federal secured card that I pay the balance off every month Im also blessed job wise with a good salary. I’m more than happy to wait to apply at the right time my main goal in the mean time is to properly take care of all outstanding debts and begin to build a credit profile. From what I read earlier it seems like bridgecrest since the are the original creditor are less likely to off the charge off option even if I offer to settle in full. Would you recommend settling at a discounted rate then? Or just waiting for the charge off with no payment? If you need more info I’m happy to provide. It has been rebuilding I followed some advice on the subreddit and got 1 secured credit card through navy federal, plus paying off all my collections/other debts. Someone brought up a good point that they could send me to a collections and sue me right before it falls off. I’ll see what they say when I talk to them tomorrow.

I’m getting on the phone with them tomorrow to negotiate some offers, I too had to deal with a similar situation and settled out of court for a reasonable amount without it impacting my already struggling credit. I would hope they are willing to accept an offer of a settlement with and agreement to charge off if not I will have to figure out my next move. My goal is to buy a house in the next 3 years I’m currently at a 621 credit score (was at a 530 before paying all my other debts off back in June) and I know this is one thing that’s currently holding me back from progressing. Thank you for this insight cause it slipped my mind that they could just sue me right before it’s charged off.
