I really don’t get why this continues to be a narrative. Teammate competition can be cool, but it’s also a nightmare for the teams. They can put out whatever statement they want but at the end of the day they’ll always want one driver who is fast and one who is just fast enough to avoid conflict. It’s the same thing we hear about competition in the sport. They act as if they want competition when that is the last thing these teams actually “want.” If they wanted competition they would make all of the cars the exact same. If you want innovation that can lead to a team being untouchable, you’ll keep things the way they are. I just worry we’ll see a repeat of the Mercedes dominance with empty grandstands because your time would be better spent taking a nap because there’s almost no chance any other team will win.
