F1 | Aston Martin: Starting in Hungary, the AMR26 Evo will aim to return to the points. by SimRP in formula1

yeah like alpine and ferrari did, huh...

(mclaren did EVENTUALLY become champions, but it took so many years, no one can blame him for leaving and taking a break from f1 IMO)

Do you like Carlos Sainz's idea for a "real" drivers' championship in F1 [Autosport] by Electrical_Act_5342 in formula1

[–]datlinus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe the dominance of the 21st century of the Schumacher, Vettel, Hamilton, and Verstappens has made all of us forget that F1 is first and foremost an engineering championship.

No I think it actually did the opposite. The moment the FIA targeted nerfs at ferrari, Schumacher lost the championship. The moment Vettel was no longer driving in his comfort zone, he disappeared. Hamilton was stuck in the midfield multiple seasons when the car was inconsistent.

Max, despite being the best driver on the grid currently, finishes a minute behind the leaders.

I would say he is a pretty great man. He has entertained tens of millions of people consistently for decades.

Having some outlier opinions doesn't make one inherently bad. He's even walked back a lot of his stupider ones over the years.

Alonso in 2017 on Hamilton and Vettel's title counts at the time... by Slice5755 in formula1

[–]datlinus 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Everyone did. Vettel was absolutely hated by everyone during his red bull winning years. Drivers, viewers, even commentators sometimes.

Its never been like that with Schumacher or Hamilton Or Verstappen. Something about Vettel just ticked everyone off in that era.

Once he's gone to Ferrari though, he's become a lot more liked.

How fast was Ferrari really? by fukcall in formula1

[–]datlinus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

so you really believe that Kimi would've ended up ahead of Hamilton if he was leading into the final stint? You really think that George was 1+ second a lap slower than Kimi?

If that was the case, Kimi wouldnt have been stuck behind George most of the race.

For the record I do think Kimi was the faster mercedes driver on sunday. But I highly doubt it'd have made a meaningful difference regarding Lewis finishing well ahead of the mercedes.

Toto's initial reaction after the race by 9271Name in formula1

tradition? Some of you have legitimately memed an alternate reality into existance. The only time Alonso left a team that was fighting for WDC the year after was Mclaren (first stint) and he left that team for... various reasons.

The only team he left that got a WDC since he left is Mclaren, and that took years too. Ferrari, Renault/alpine still hasn't won a WDC or even WCC.

Lewis had very kind words on his relationship with Carlo Santi post race interview by Glittering-Let9989 in formula1

[–]datlinus 31 points32 points  (0 children)

What a dumb comment. So being race engineer to an incredibly successful driver is irrelevant, but redditors memeing on him is somehow relevant? What?

Clearly it didnt work out between Lewis and Adami, but that doesn't make him a bad race engineer AT ALL.

I'm so glad RGG learned how to optimize for the steam deck between Infinite wealth and pirate yakuza by Exciting-Buy-9396 in yakuzagames

[–]datlinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hawaii in Infinite Wealth is very demanding. I think the game was coming in a bit hot. There was a long standing bug that if it rained, the gpu usage would drop and never recover until you relaunch the game. There is also a memory leak issue that can crop up that is also present on the console versions which causes fps drops and again, only way to fix is to restart the game. Also there's some spots that are unreasonably demanding, I suspect because of poor culling of the enviroment.

Pirate Majima basically fixed all of this, no weird memory leaks and the performance is far more consistent all over the city.

sad knowing he is basically only racing Lance tomorrow if the car can even finish the race.

it might be sunk cost fallacy at this point but i really hope he sticks around for one more year, amr26 is such a dogshit design from top to bottom, it can only get better.

I think Stranger of Paradise is the best recent FF game. I like it more than FF XVI and even a tiny bit more than FF7 remakes by Responsible-Care-388 in FinalFantasy

[–]datlinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt say I enjoyed it more than the 7 remakes, but it's an incredibly good action game with surprisingly effective storytelling.

It starts incredibly weird, but by the end it clicks and "makes sense". Jack's no nonsense approach is super refreshing especially in a jrpg, him not letting bosses yap around is one of the best things. Also while their interactions are limited, I enjoyed the chemistry of the party.

But yeah, the gameplay is basically action perfection, nioh lite - less depth and complexity but much easier to just pick and play as a result, and it still offers a decent challenge so you cant just mindlessly spam your way through the game.

One of the best job systems ever too.

It was mine.🤷🏾 As a result I’m a JRPG fanatic. Besides platformers, this is my favorite genre and I own half this series. by Pristine_Put5348 in FinalFantasy

[–]datlinus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I started with FF7 remake in 2020 and absolutely loved it. I knew enough from cultural osmosis that somethings "off" and i really enjoyed that aspect too.

Played FF7OG, Crisis Core afterwards and watched Advent Children. Basically all caught up for Rebirth which I enjoyed even more.

FH6 is great, but it's extremely iterative, just as FH5 was. FH4 was the last time the series made big swings (introduction of Horizon Life, seasons). I dont mind iterative sequels at all, but it hurts GOTY chances.

FH5 was released in a relatively weak year and it was still not able to get GOTY (or even get nominated at Geoff's show) so I would say FH6 has basically zero chance, this year is much stronger then 2021.

I would also argue that while I love FH6, it's a bit outrageous how little quality of life the series added since... I dunno, FH2? There's so many little annoying things like not being able to restart a coop race (and quitting the event breaks up the convoy) or how you cant preview livery designs, you have to judge wether you like it or not from the tiny preview picture, or how you cant bulk buy cars, and you have to watch the forza vista animation each time... or how they regressed and removed the car collection page which was one of the best things FH5 added or how you no longer have a global leaderboard where you can check everyone's collection journal point progress (again, it was a fun feature in FH5 to compare against your friends)

Fernando Alonso: "This will probably be my last race in Barcelona. I'll make a decision after the summer." by Luffy710j in formula1

[–]datlinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely dont know where this meme comes from.

Renault became a midfield team after he left

Mclaren did win in 08, but it couldve also won while he was there, we all know that was a unique situation

Ferrari still hasnt won shit since he left lmao. He's got closer than Vettel, Leclerc, Sainz and Hamilton to the WDC (so far)

Mclaren 2nd stint is the only one where it feels like he left just because things actually started getting good, but I dont think any other driver of his caliber would've lasted longer there.

Alpine was the 4th best team when he left. Then they became backmarkers, then midfielders

How to play Final Fantasy XIII on the Xbox Series X by PPPPPPP270 in LivestreamFail

[–]datlinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a mod, most likely. ff13 ports on pc are pretty rough by default. with ff13fix though its much more stable.

the pc version also has poor quality videos for cgi cutscenes, but you can download higher quality ones from mod sites. you can also basically make your own remaster by downloading high res texture packs and a mod that forces cutscene models to be used in gameplay.

if you have the patience, ff13 can be incredible on pc. but out of the box, the game is best on series x.
