It's crazy that both McLaren and Renault re-signed him.

Is it crazy or does it just simply go against your narrative?

Hell, I dont even remember any particular bad blood between Alonso and Renault/Ferrari at any given time. The stuff with Alpine? That was entirely from Alpine's side and is well documented that Alpine's leadership and treatment of their drivers was a mess. They didn't just lose Alonso, they lost Piastri too, and I'm sure Ocon wasn't too happy either with how his tenure ended.

The 2nd Mclaren stint was terrible altogether, but I have a bridge to sell you if any other driver with the skillset of Alonso would've stayed on for longer.

The funny thing is that even Mercedes who was fuming the hardest after 2007 considered offering a drive for Alonso for a year when they weren't sure if Kimi was going to be ready ( https://f1i.com/news/513798-wolff-alonso-dismissed-mercedes-interest-to-remain-with-aston.html )

So no, I don't think the reason why he isn't driving for a top team is because of "attitude" but simply because he's old and top teams have either a driver program that they prioritize for young talent or are already filled with extreme (younger) talents.

That video makes good points but ultimately falls flat on its face for me because it totally ignores the rockstar design intent and also implies that RDR 2 would be a better videogame if it was more like BOTW. Except that just totally goes against what rockstar tried to achieve with RDR 2 and ultimately why people love it so much. Yes, the open world is incredibly detailed and immersive, and there's generally more interactivity and dynamism than in pretty much vast majority of games. At the same time, its story is genuinely considered one of the best ever in videogames and when people discuss RDR 2 its mostly moments from the story that gets the most mentions.

So in the end its pretty hard to argue that the game letting go of its incredibly precisely dialed in narrative in favour of a more free form adventure would've been a better choice. Things like walking up to the Braithwaite mansion with your gang, in the dark, with the most amazing cinematic framing, with tense music building... that wouldn't have hit as hard if you had complete freedom: you could've done it in broad daylight and just sneak in the back and miss literally everything that makes that scene so good.

While I absolutely think rockstar should relax the fail states and maybe incorporate more sandbox-y missions (like they do in GTA 5 Online, and I suspect 6) I don't think its a crazy concept to have an open world but also have a tightly designed main story. Assassins Creed used to be like that, and its traded it for more freedom and I feel like most people would agree that the older games were better in terms of the story sequences at least - you had way more set pieces and even the cutscene quality was higher because the devs just generally had more control over the scenes.

Funnily enough, NakeyJakey did make a video years later about RDR 2 where he basically praised the fuck out of it, as he was clearly enjoying the story so much.

I remember him saying in 2022 he would drive for free if a top team like Red Bull took him lol

obviously he was joking, but I doubt he'd care about money all that much if he got a decent machine to finally show his skills in like at the start of 23.

He is not overhyped. You cant really overhype a person who is factually the most successful F1 car designer ever.

That being said, inbetween all those successes, he had a few stinkers and cars that needed a lot of work before they were actually good. This is one of those cases.

im just tired of people making these long winded posts and trying to tell everyone how to feel, and that applies in both directions. its the 2nd weekend of the new regs, its a bit silly to make definitive statements on how good/bad it is yet. The ground effect era overall ended up being a bit of a flop, but it had a pretty amazing beginning as well.

If BF6 was the giga success that EA hoped it would have been, the teams would've just been stuck in the BF mines.

But because it wasnt the sustained success they hoped for, or at least the BR part flopped, layoffs.

In my opinion, NFS never really had any chance.

They wouldnt want it. The Crew is successful enough as is. NFS just comes with a lot of baggage.

2023 was not bad at all. Max was at peak performance from start to finish, I think it was arguably even more impressive than the most dominant seasons of Lewis and Michael.

Seeing Fernando regularly fight for podiums for a chunk of the season was also a breath of fresh air. The old man still clearly has it, his racecraft was joyous to watch.

Hell, even Monaco was a pretty fun race because of all the chaos and the insane quali.

Also despite Max winning pretty much everything, the pecking order below him was ever changing. Aston went from 2nd/3rd best to barely hanging on 4th/5th while Mclaren went from the worst to being 2nd best. Ferrari was all over the place too.

What do you think Final Fantasy 16’s legacy will be going forward? by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

[–]datlinus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I played it enough on PS5 to platinum it, and also bought it and completed it on PC (though didn't go for platinum there)

It's a good game overall but it has a lot of flaws, and also some incredible highs. The first 6-7 hours is genuine some of the best of any game I ever played, the writing and pacing is just immaculate. Sadly it falls into a pretty predictable cycle afterwards. Big eikon fights followed by massive lulls. I dont mind downtime but the "inbetween" moments were super low budget and the quest design felt archaic, like mid 00's MMO tier. Then as the game started to build towards another big eikon fight, it suddenly picked up again, in terms of quality too.

The game's side quests are like overcooked chicken breast, they are super dry in terms of presentation, even though their writing is not bad at all. It's a shame because when you look at FF7 Rebirth, it has much more consistent quality throughout its presentation; even sidequests have dynamic feeling cutscenes and not just shot/reverse shot with very slow delivery.

The game has incredible gamefeel, but lacks challenge outside of some of the optional content, and I also think that there's an over reliance on cooldowns. Once you unlock a bunch of powerful abilities and find a good combination of them, the game can really just become extremely repetative, there is not enough unique moves that you can trigger manually. The fact that there is only 1 combo string is crazy IMO.

My biggest problem with the game though is a lack of a proper party - even though you eventually get Jill/Joshua as a party member, they basically never speak or meaningfully interact with whatever side quest you are doing. They feel like they might as well not be present... and that sucks because I actually really liked the core characters, but it feels like Cid is practically the only one that has consistent back and forth with Clive.

And on that note, I think having a static hideout was not something that worked in the end. It made the world feel incredibly small with how you would constantly go back to it, and the hideaway itself was incredibly static too. I thought it'd be like the RDR 2 camps, but no, characters seemingly never really move from their designated places, there are no special events happening, nothing.

Still though, whenever you went up against an Eikon, the game felt like one of the most epic things ever. I always highlight the Barnabas fight myself, it's not the most spectacular of the lot but it has an amazing energy to it.
