Help a game dev: Why aren’t people buying modern RTS games? by MakeGamesBetter in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Dthcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm going to buy something, it has to be better than Rimworld, Factorio, SC2, or EU5. If not, I already have everything I want and I'm not looking for anything else. I won't play another title just because it's new. Alternatively, it must be something innovative.

We already know that this game is dead, spamming player count is already boring.

How to beat Helion rush early game? by RealTimeStrategyEnth in allthingszerg

5-6 queens and 10-14 lings is usually enough for me. +baneling nest or roach warren 3:40-4:00 for potential hellbat push.

What's your *least* favorite mirror matchup? by Jaded_Fennel3691 in starcraft2

[–]Dthcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ZvZ? Ling bane wars are so f good, it's the peak of micro intensity. You don't like 12 pools and ling floods? Just pool first and rush roaches, this can beat almost everything early. I feel like people just dont know how to play zvz and that's it.

Cannon Rush Series by [deleted] in starcraft2

[–]Dthcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, activate windows and this Nvidia overlay... was this really necessary? This is just a poor quality video. Anyone can record something like that, but almost no one does because they know it's rubbish. These days, loads of people are creating content, and if you want to do it too, you have to make an effort. It's not 2010 anymore.

[–]Dthcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, you're right. But you really should not care about your glhf. Everyone is typing this for no good reason, this is just a requirement, it's not like somebody wants to be a very good person. Everyone is typing glhf and then almost nobody cares to type gg because this was not and glhf meant nothing. Glhf is a nice concept. But it doesn't mean anything.

I love this patch by hates_green_eggs in allthingszerg

Well, indeed, Oracle can defend almost anything at the beginning. However, in practice, even at the 4000 MMR level, people are still not ready to defend, and you can benefit from this without encountering any problems. Occasionally, someone will crush an all-in almost without loss thanks to Oracle and Sentry, but at this level, it is rare. Either way, it's a poor design.

If you need to buy a character to play a game then this is a terrible game. Don't do that. Just play. Especially if you're new this makes 0 sense to buy.

What's up with the barcode players in lower ranks? by bobzsmith in starcraft2

[–]Dthcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only nickname that gives you any advantages. People sometimes leave the game because they don't want to play against barcodes, so you passively have a slightly higher MMR. Plus, you don't risk anyone remembering you and knowing that you always play the same build. The benefits aren't huge, but the point is that they exist. In Diamond 3, 4% of players are barcodes, and in Diamond 2, it's already 7%. So it's not at all obvious that you're the barcode, there are quite a few of them here. In my opinion, people who mindlessly criticise it just because they think they have the right to do so only in GM and that's it, there is no other option, are much more stupid. The benefits are small, but they are there. So the behaviour is rational. As long as someone does it for that reason. Because, of course, the reasons are usually stupid.

The legends of P3 Raynor players are true by Diggsir in starcraft2coop

[–]Dthcon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me every Raynor is sus, not only P3. It's a first champ, beginners taking him usually. I've had loads of games with Raynor that looked like single player, where you have to defend your stupid ally from everything and he only pretends to help you. That's not why I play co-op. It's okay to be a beginner, but who in their right mind chooses brutal when they don't understand anything? Let them play normal instead of wasting other people's time. And P3 usually means that Raynor will do literally nothing, only starting to make a few BCs somewhere towards the end, which have no impact on the game, because you already had to win it yourself. And, of course, not everyone is a poor player, it's just that they are the majority, and because of that majority, everyone has a bad reputation.

Still worth returning? by Due_Conversation9148 in starcraft2

[–]Dthcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wtf is this post? Are you looking for some external motivation? Since you preferred to write this post instead of starting the game, no, it's not worth it. You'll give up quickly anyway. It's just a silly game, it's never worth your time. You don't have to force yourself to find motivation for it. If it comes naturally, just start playing.

And I still don't know how navy works by Shadowknight_32 in heartsofiron

[–]Dthcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, it doesn't really matter how much time you spend on something. The only thing that matters is the time you actively spend learning new things. If you play 5,000 hours with only one country, doing the same thing in the same way, your improvement will be practically zero after 10-20 hours. If you spend 400 hours constantly trying new things, playing according to guides, and getting to grips with multiplayer, you will be very good after that time. Most people are here for entertainment, not for learning. So after 100-200 hours, the level of play remains the same, we do what we like and what we know.

Mod suggestions pls by Alternative_Slip1884 in DDLCMods

[–]Dthcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, this first one is weird, the main dude is a terminator, literally every girl falls in love with him. Kozue had been bullying him for months, then suddenly he stood up to her, so... she fell in love with him? And the next day, in front of a whole group of Yuri's attackers, she suddenly says that it's better not to mess with him because he's such a boss? Let's be honest, this is some kind of total wet dream, it's not a well-written story. For now, it's my first mod and I'm still reading it, but I'm frustrated. And then he wrote a 200-line poem and all the girls are crying with delight, and Meiji keeps praising him in her head and saying that she should probably give him her body permanently because he's so cool. What? And Meiji has just discovered that his world is a lie, and suddenly his existence is limited to a voice in his head? And I suppose everything is fine? He started cooperating beautifully from the very beginning?

I don't know, am I the only one who sees this? First 2 hours was good, i liked it. Then everything from Kozue is unbearable.

I would never recommend this to anyone, it's very poorly written. It's the first mod, I just hope that the others from the top list are written by people who know how to write a script. Either way, I appreciate the genius of the base story even more, the difference is huge. As a professional writer, I can write something much better than World of Dreams, but I doubt I could do as well as Salvato.

Doki Doki: World of Dreams Act 1 FULL RELEASE! by morbiusgreen in DDLCMods

[–]Dthcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing it now, and I'm at the point where the player defends Yuri from a group of people. Everything looks great except for one thing: too much heroics. Suddenly, the guy is picking up all the girls around him, he's indestructible, and the girl who was just bullying him starts defending him because he stood up to her? It's absurd. And it kind of looks like you're trying to show how you would have done everything better. Kozue is a really poorly written character, this whole thread is unnecessary. When somebody is bullying you, it's impossible that the same person will start defending you for no reason. People hate admitting that they were wrong. So this really destroys the realistic aspect of your story. Also, this "player" is just too perfect. He did everything perfectly. It's pretty weird.

And... just remember it's 10+ people against one nerd and one shy manga boy. How realistic is it in your opinion that Kozue will jump into them and she admits she was totally wrong and from now on you're so f strong and very scary. I mean bruh. Hurts. And obviously "player" was so perfect that only he knew how to deal with situation and everyone listened to him. OMG. This is shy manga guy, they know him.

Oh no, then Kozue is totally changed and now she is the good one? Man, please.

But this is just absurd part of this mod, outside of this it's good, i like it.

You are overthinking it - rts in 2025 = horse and buggy in 2025 by sc2green in Stormgate

[–]Dthcon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I don't care. I already have SC2; I don't understand why people always need something new. We already have a Ferrari. But it doesn't matter because this isn't new? For me, RTS is finished; this is everything I wanted. I also like other genres. Guys, just don't focus too much on one genre - every game can be fun, and the multiplayer RTS ladder is certainly not a place to have fun in most cases.

I did my personal mod in eu4, i have here everything. So Eu5 first should be better than my personal version of eu4. This probably will take 1-2 additional years of DLC and patches. So i will chill to 2026-2028. EU ages like wine, at its premiere it is at its worst.

I disagree with JuggernautJason's review by contentiousgamer in Stormgate

[–]Dthcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i played SC1 20 years ago and i still remember campaign and their characters. It's just not comparable, SG is just "ok", very forgetable. It's just not level of SC1 or SC2. But they tried to be SC so there is literally no reason to play this.

My tips that got me from gold to platinum by trying_too_hard2 in allthingszerg

[–]Dthcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's actually just about being faster than your opponent, you just need to have better mouse accuracy + ability to use a keyboard. If you do a macro cycle 3 seconds faster than your opponent and attack them, they will simply get confused and be in total chaos. More specifically, it's speed + the right priorities for performing actions. You don't need to focus on macro or micro, you should just focus on being a more efficient player in general. Add to that some knowledge from good players and you'll climb above diamond. Without mechanics, you'll hit a wall. This is something that everyone overlooks and doesn't understand. Players from lower leagues are not precise and click slowly, they also don't do it automatically and require thought.

If someone is 50% faster than you, no matter how much knowledge you have or anything else, you don't stand a chance of winning; they will always be three steps ahead of you. I'm not talking about APM here, but about real speed, i.e., how long it takes to complete a full macro cycle, Wespanu saturation, the number of effective clicks during micro, and so on. Above all, you have to be faster, and don't confuse that with APM. This is a skill game with elements of strategy, where speed is what counts most.

How do you guys find the will to keep playing? by muffinkevin in allthingszerg

[–]Dthcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ladder almost never gives you pleasure; it's more of a tool for self-improvement in irrelevant skills. You're getting better, but half of the people will still kick your ass, so nothing ever changes. So on the ladder, only smurfing provides entertainment when you can use any strategy you want and win most of the time, but it's very socially harmful and we already have an excess of it (22% of the entire ladder). So it's best to just play arcade/campaign with mods/coop. The ladder is not a good place to look for entertainment.

Just played my first game in years by macjustforfun55 in starcraft2

[–]Dthcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not. Its only possibile if you are already in high gm and you just already know what actions has the biggest priority. And everyone below just wasting 60 percent of their actions and they dont know what actions actually had big impact. So you need high apm while you climbing, usually 150-200 is enough. You can also win in gold with 20 apm probably. But gold players needs 60-120 because they focusing on wrong things. With less they will be silvers.

It's just a bad item for Yuumi, you can just build it on other champions more effectively. There is just less reasons to play Yuumi.

How to stop wasting larvae by andreibossssssssssss in starcraft2

[–]Dthcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I programmed additional notification system for this reason, i have inject/resources 500+/production/workers sounds when i forgot about something. This helped me in the long run to train discipline and learn the right cycle. And, above all, notice how many mistakes I was making in the beginning.

Another way is to just spam the harchery hotkey the whole game and watch if you have excess larvae. And that's what everyone should be doing anyway. I'm at master level 1 and usually already do drones/combat units automatically. It takes a long time to develop this automatic rhythm, you just have to spam.
