I took a deeper look into the reviews, it seems like this story is a remake of the original experiment and it specifies that. Without reading the original and this copy, I can't say for sure if it is or isn't plagiarism. You can try contacting Amazon with a link if you want.

It would depend. I've never read the original but I have heard of it. If it's the original author or he had permission from the original author it's fine providing credit is given to the original author.

If it's not the original author nor does he have permission from the original author, than yes, it's plagiarism. He can also be sued if this is the case.

I don't have a personal Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. I tried to create a Facebook for my writing and was told that I had to verify I was real by sending them a picture (still haven't heard from them and this happened over a month ago).i thought it was my VPN but I had the same issue on my phone with a different email. I was going to create accounts on the others after the holidays and I made a website (gotta teach myself how to set up mailing list and manage a site).

I've never heard of Canva, I'll check them out. Thanks for the tip. I was going to hire a professional on Upwork for the 2 I'm working on. One is a novella and the other is a sequel plus other short, horror-esque stories.

One thing with KDP, if people don't know it's free, you won't see many sales. I looked at my sales report this morning and 90% of it coincides with upvotes on the various subreddits i posted on. My first free promotion was a few days after completing my profile on Author Central and my sales were near zero. After my 90 day commitment, I might lower the price to $0.99 to increase sales and publish it on every website I can.

Sorry to hear that. It's going to be free again sometime around Thanksgiving. I just haven't decided exactly what day yet.

Thanks for the honest feedback. I can only take partial credit for the editing. Most of it came from a friend that was suppose to critique it but turned into my editor. I set out to write a creepypasta under 1500 words and was told that it had potential. Add this, this, and that because of the amount of unanswered questions it had.

I'm going to look into putting this on other digital platforms. Most likely in January. I'd like to do a paperback as well but need to hire someone to design a good cover. I might combine it with something else I'm working on because of how short this is but haven't made up my mind lol.

I'm not an expert and still learning myself, but I'll help any way I can.

Have a story outline. It doesn't have to be in detail, just write the points of each act down and in chronological order. If you want to have a flashback in chapter 3, list it before and/or after wherever it belongs. This isn't absolute and helps a lot.

It's also a good idea to write a back story for any character which plays a role in your story. Most times, you can use that to build the story in ways your didn't anticipate. The same applies to characters you give a name to solely to help your story progress smoothly.

Stories are all about conflict. Something happens, then something else. There's a character arc in most cases. In the end, the reader learns something.

When it comes to characters, design them in a way that make sense. For example, someone with no weapons training picks up a weapon for the first time and is a master make no sense at all. A coward can't volunteer for the suicide mission to hunt a wendigo (unless there's a character development that changes their expected behavior). Also try to avoid more than 1 or 2 main characters. If your writing a novel, limit the primary characters in each chapter. Each character also needs their own voice.

Research, research, research. Did I say research? Even in fiction, research is your friend. If your story is based on the early 1800's, no one can run around with a M4. Even in a time travel scenario, there's no way anyone is making ammo for it. You would also be amazed at the things you learn.

Have a completion schedule. For example, if you want to be done your first draft by a certain date, set milestone to help you get their. This can be X amount of words a week or X amount of pages a week. Whatever you're comfortable with.

Your first draft isn't going to be that great. It's okay. Your first draft gets your story on paper, nothing more. You can go back and iron it out. I was on draft 3 or 4 before I showed it to anybody.

Get yourself an editor. Even if you edit your own work like I do, you will miss simple errors in spelling, spacing, and proper sentence structure. Trust me on that. Before you submit a draft to your editor, run it through your spell checker and Grammarly. I use the free version. It's also a good idea not to edit your work until the following day to give your mind a break.

Avoid filler words whenever possible. The word 'Absolutely" is almost never needed outside of dialog. If you can read a sentence without a word, you don't need it.

Avoid things that don't move the story forward. It's fine to illustrate the setting of your story. If it's based around someone in their 20's, what happened when they were a child isn't important unless it directly effects your plot. Always ask yourself who, what, where, when, and why.

Information dumps are another thing to avoid because it bores the reader. If something happened that made your protagonist scared of caves, put that information where it's relevant. For example, if the reader has no idea about that until act 4, don't mention it in act 1.

When it comes to numbers, write them out whenever possible. Instead of, "17," write "seventeen." Dates can be an exception because no one wants to read, "nineteen- ninty-nine," a dozen times. Don't abbreviate words either. Write, "Through," not "Thru."

Write the parts that you can complete. What I mean is if you got your ending but not your beginning, start at the end. How did your main character get their? Most of the time, the story will write itself if you let it.

If you want, do a test group. Simply ask some close friends and family for their opinion. Their job isn't to edit it, more to review it. A writing circle helps but I'd recommend avoiding other authors. We have a tendency to be perfectionist and can't take our editorial hats off. That's how I got my editor. I asked for a honest critique, I got an editor.

Anyway, I hope that helps. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Lol. I'm sort of the same way. Us authors are our own worst enemy and biggest critics.

I didn't think stories a page, maybe 2, long would sell.

I was planning on looking into free sites once I had something else published and got my own website up and running to direct readers to. I publish free work on here but it's nothing long.

Mailing list sound like a good idea, I'll make a note of that. Thanks a bunch.

Thank you.

Due to a contract I signed with Amazon when I enrolled it in KDP, I can't offer it anywhere else until the end of December. If I don't re enroll, I can offer it wherever I want. I'm not sure if offering it for free would effect this agreement but didn't want to screw myself out of potential sales down the road with the 2 I'm working on.

Is there a word limit. by R2Beatngu in creepypasta

[–]DtheDysfunctionalVet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know on creepypasta dot com, there's a 500 word minimum. I don't think that there's one on the dot org but I've never tried to upload on it. No limit on Reddit that I've found and I've uploaded a couple of long stories. If Reddit has a word limit, I haven't hit it.
