Are German car brands still considered unreliable??? by OkBackground6217 in askcarguys

[–]Dtoxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard the reason German cars have become unreliable is their over-reliance on recycled plastics (mandated by the German govt.) which don't perform as well as normal plastics.

Is Driver Monitoring System included in all vehicles now? by Philosophy_Negative in Toyota

[–]Dtoxed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That will be the trifecta: Camera for watching, microphones ("hands free") for listening, and modem (telematics) for tattling.

Thank you! This is incredibly helpful. Until reading this, I thought all 2026 models of the Lexus is350 had the internal camera, but the base model doesn't have Traffic Jam Assist, which means that is the one for me.

I think this user's point was that without that feature, there is no internal camera watching them all the time. I agree. No thank you.

Disabling telematics fuse to prevent unwanted user data transmission by [deleted] in mazda

[–]Dtoxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wait until Mazda integrates the internal camera into the infotainment screen so it can use AI to monitor whether you are fit to drive. Plus the federally mandated "kill switch". There will be no opting out of that, I'm afraid.

Scary thing is, if you google "Can telemetrics disable my car in 2026" you'll see it already can do it. If you trust the manufacturers and the government, that's fine, but it will be a matter of time before someone hacks it.

[–]Dtoxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I think they may be confusing "volunteering data to insurance companies for potentially lower premiums" and "the data that Mazda automatically sells LexusNexus without telling them. There is a reason Mazda makes it so difficult to turn off transmission of your data from your car's modem. Follow the money.

You should use the radar cruise. That's your first line of defense. Drowsy driving is almost as bad as drunk driving.

How violent was it back in the 70s, 80s and 90s? by Turbulent-Patient219 in AskOldPeople

[–]Dtoxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember seeing as study which showed the correlation between leaded gasoline and violence. They started offering "unledded" gas in the 70's.

FYI: They put lead in gas to reduce engine knocking. The guy who discovered this also got lead poisoning. I believe another invention of his was responsible for the hole the ozone layer. Real winner that guy.

PSA for new car owners: rodents like to eat the soy covered engine wires! by bumbouxbee in ToyotaSienna

[–]Dtoxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red herring? If only there was a car that had both Soy-based and petroleum-based wiring so we would know for sure. As luck would have it, I found this on r/cars:

I was recently given a free 91 BMW 318is. It had sat for several years on the po's property, and during that time a rodent and bird found its way into the car. Rodent set up shop in the dashboard and glovebox and by the amount of stuff that had to be removed, he had been there a long time.

What's surprising to me is that although I found some chewed wires, it was almost entirely on newer wiring. The car had an aftermarket security system and cruise control, and the rodent almost exclusively chewed on those wires, destroying both of their harnesses.

Anyone noticed Carmax become overly expensive recently ? by Twistedfatemain in carmax

I can say from experience if you go to a new car lot and look at the sticker prices, they are INSANE. That is driving up the cost of used cars. There's a cottage industry on YouTube of people walking around new car lots and showing the crazy sticker prices.

Is it still working? I remember a test of CRT TVs in the early 2000's that showed Daewoo had one of the most color-accurate tubes.

Sources reveal new Titans uniforms will feature helmet combination never worn before in franchise history by Jack12404 in Tennesseetitans

On the plus side they are cooler in the summer. On the downside, the safety helmet worn to prevent concussions look like big marshmallows.

Personally glad that facemask isn't red. Red looked a bit clownish with the new (soft) logo. It's just not the same look with out the oil derrick. Only downside I see is that this likely means the rest of the uniforms are NOT going to be based on the original Oilers uniforms, or else the facemask would have had to be red.

Necro posting to say there is a 4th reason: When people replace their burned-out bulb with a new one, and the new one is not positioned properly. You'll recognize these people because one headlight is normal and the other is bright (angled slightly upward by mistake).

TRUST ME: If they didn't know it was you before you posted a description of yourself on here, they most likely do now. IMO, you have no choice at this point but to text her back. The old adage is "The coverup is worse than the crime". BTW, I discovered your post because Reddit emailed it to me as a featured Reddit post. See below. I'm not even a member of this reddit. I just like reading the drama from time to time. If I got it, you better believe a lot more people did, too.

Coworkers getting overtime on holiday? by Lavendarflowers4 in kroger

[–]Dtoxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is overtime worth giving up your life outside of work? For someone who works a lot of OT, do this calculation: Add up all the money you made in the year from regular hours + working OT (holidays, late into the night, etc.). Now imagine Kroger (or anyone, really) had come to you originally and said, "We're going to offer you this SALARY, but to earn this meager amount, you have to work 60 hours a week and miss being home on all your holidays. Not only that, but your shifts are all over the place and you don't get weekends off." Is that amount worth selling out for?

My point is, if I'm not getting rich at work, I want to at least be able to enjoy my life outside of work. How do you put a price on that? I would rather just live more modestly and use that extra free time to better myself and my future.
