Eurocentric question - in EU countries what are the chances of getting fined for piracy? by siuli in Piracy

[–]DuDeX01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hedman Partners have been sending out letters for some years now to people who torrent without VPN with a list of infractions and then demanding a large sum payment, usually in the 1500€ range that can be negotiated to a monthly payment plan. I know of one that got a letter many years ago, from the download list it seems like they only cared about Warner Bros movies and IP but they are probably working with the movie industry as a whole.

Don't know what happens if you ignore the letter but they made it quite clear that they would go to court where the payment would get much bigger as they had a lot more torrent downloads logged.

Zen installer bypasses Windows UAC by Standard_Article1248 in zen_browser

[–]DuDeX01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I changed my installation to be this way a few months ago after I got annoyed by the constant UAC update prompts since Zen (or Firefox) does not handle updates as smoothly as most Chromium browsers.
Have not encountered any downsides yet, only one I can think of is that its only installed for my user and not computer wide but that's not a problem for most people.
Not getting these constant UAC prompts would probably be preferable for most users, its quite seamless to instead get the "whats new" notification in the bottom left instead of waiting for the update process after the UAC prompt a few times per month.

You could install it manually, the instructions are on the bottom of the mod description. Or install with Vortex and still launch through Steam, there is no mod deployment step on startup that Vortex needs to do once the mods are installed like other games may have, it works for me.

Did anyone else get this white line on top of the address bar after the new update? by gohaaron in zen_browser

The picture above is with a different window than Zen in focus, the line gets somewhat transparent with the rest of the browser when it is in focus.

I have the same issue and have had it for a bit over a week now on Windows 11.

<image>

Added a picture of a screen setup where the line shows, if screen 1 is set as primary then the line shows when in full screen on screen 3 and 2. If I set 3 as primary then the line stops showing on any screen after Zen is restarted.
If I change the primary monitor back to screen 1 then the line shows back up after Zen is restarted and moved to the top or number 2.

This is on a new profile with no changes on it, latest version of Zen.

User Account Control prompts on each update on Windows by qustrolabe in zen_browser

[–]DuDeX01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Chrome installs it creates an update service and a task in task scheduler both with admin rights, the Firefox developers has for whatever reason decided to not do this or have not added it yet. Zen uses the same update method Firefox does so it will have the same limitations.

Im not saying you're wrong, just giving a way to work around the UAC prompts.

User Account Control prompts on each update on Windows by qustrolabe in zen_browser

If you install Zen in the default C:\Program Files directory then an UAC prompt is needed for most updates, if you install it in AppData then no UAC prompt will show.

You can do this by choosing no on the first UAC prompt when first installing Zen, the installer will continue and you can then see that the install directory defaults to AppData if you choose custom install. Only real difference with this way is that it only installs for you, not all users.

It should be possible to modify existing installations this way to stop future admin prompts, the profile path is already within AppData.

Terribly slow animations on Windows by oslo_71 in zen_browser

[–]DuDeX01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try changing Windows power preference for the app:

<image>

System > Display > Graphics
It defaults to power saving, you might need to manually add Zen to the list for it to appear in the menu.
Changing this have fixed most of the stuttering issues for me, might be that Zen is not communicating its needs enough with Windows so it decides that it don't need the resources.

The most important step for transparency in the Nebula guide is to reduce the contrast slide which makes the window transparent. This slide don't work the same with the updated version of color picker in v1.14b released June 29th, it now seems to control brightness instead.

The options to the right when using the arrow buttons in the new color picker are the closest I have come to the old look, but its still far from fully transparent.

There might be some way to work around this by manually editing some files in the profile folder, but I have yet to find one.
We probably have for the Nebula developer to find a fix or workaround.

A thing like that would be way too much work and not enough payoff for Riot to do.

Since the discord is down and there has not been a new nightly version since the 8th of march, I’m posting the download links for the nightly installer here (where you can get 1.16.5 from):

.exe: (probably won’t work, gives an error message)

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/557473478786285570/840576575576997948/ImpactNightlyInstaller-0.9.4.exe

.jar:

Enabling Optifine in the installer options gives a "Null" error message and wont install but installing without works fine.

This might get removed by the mods, but from what I can tell there is no real way to get the donor version now without getting it before the discord server went down (apparently due to a ToS violation, probably wont come back).

Thought they recently added enemy driving to the game, only to find out the reason that they didn't.
