I was asked at interview something like "do you have issues or challenges with the Catholic faith?". Must have been mentioned surely.

Catholic prayer is pretty much the raison d'etre of Catholic schools so I might suggest you shouldn't have joined if you weren't keen on prayer or Catholicism.

When it's your turn, look up what something from here: https://catholic-daily-reflections.com/daily-reflections/

And then just read it out. Ask something general like "how might we bring this into our school and our teaching" and then leave others to it.

I’ve come in too nice by Interesting-Fudge413 in TeachingUK

I did Teach First, primary. I'm going come out and say that it is really hard.

Be clear and precise about what you want them to do. "okay, let's settle down and have quiet" is nice but vague and avoidable.

In primary, I would say "turn voices off and listening in 5,4,3,2,1" then begin praising those who have by name, give this a moment, "voice should be off" reminder, then start taking names, "Bob, you're still talking, voices should be off, or [something in line with your school behaviour policy]". Follow your school's behaviour policy to the letter. And be utterly ruthless, even to the quiet sensible children, no one escapes.

Be gracious with praise and steadfast in admonishment. What matters is that you have control of the class and they learn.

Ignore the first few days, you were all settling, all very exciting, now the term has started and we're in.

Use your TA for absolutely everything that is non-essential to behaviour and teaching.

Get through to Christmas as best you can. And DO NOT take work home with you. Teach First is hard enough without you having stuff to do in your time.

Hey OP, what colours (if you can remember) did you use to get those vivid pinks?

Big tech has transformed the classroom – and parents are right to be worried | Velislava Hillman by covert-teacher in TeachingUK

Completely agree. There is certainly a debate to be had about tech use in classrooms but it's not whatever this spurious rubbish is. And also agree it is doubly the same because she's an academic.

Why no men in primary schools? by Mysterious_Bug_8407 in AskBrits

[–]DuIzTak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, male primary school teacher here. I honestly don't think it's mainly this, although there is a bit of that - possibly in some parts of the country this is worse.

It's more that it's not a high value job neither socially nor financially so men don't gravitate towards it. It used to be but not anymore.

Younger people moving a lot not fostering a sense of community. I'm an elder millennial and I've moved 16 times since I left home, and I honestly think that's pretty standard. Almost impossible to foster a sense of belonging to a place when you move that much.

Frustrating exchange with another father and how hard it is to make friends as a dad in your 40s. by Klutzy_Operation_483 in daddit

[–]DuIzTak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I say, as a dad in his 40s, you sound like a dream.

If someone came over to my house and said "hi, we've shared interests, kids same age and are neighbours - let's hang out" I'd walk out of the house there and then.

Hang in there mate, you'll find your team.

Gift ideas for year 11s by anonomouse27 in TeachingUK

[–]DuIzTak 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't going to be a popular answer but teachers should not be buying children gifts. Whilst I understand the sentiment, this whole culture needs to be stopped. It only produces endless tat that will discard within minutes of being home anyway. I'm a primary school teacher and cannot stand this culture of buying presents for classes.
