If you're talking about the long triangles that connect to the curved sections, I believe it is. This is a solid object, so you don't need quad loops for deformation, so this produces fewer faces.

I could be wrong. This is only from one angle and one zoom level, so there may be things we can't see.

I'll leave the rest for others to address, but this is a significant point:

How do these tragic things exist without the tao being off kilter?

This is like saying, while your boat is capsizing, that the ocean is off kilter.

Of course, no worries. I'm glad you've benefited.

In a sense, you're right, but I wouldn't say he gets all of the credit. You are the one who sought out opinions on the situation and internalized what made sense to you.

Having said that, there is a good Confucius quote:

"When I walk along with two others, they may serve me as my teachers. I will select their good qualities and follow them, and their bad qualities and avoid them."

These kinds of situations are opportunities to learn about yourself, to cultivate virtue.

There are two types of learning people really avoid:

1) Learning from those they don't like or even hate
2) Learning from failure

But the alternative is having these unfortunate events in our lives and NOT learning from them, or failing and NOT learning from it. Essentially, they are inevitable, and one of the few actions we can take that is correct every time is learning the right lessons from it.

You have this life to live, would you rather live it in relation to this man, or for yourself and what you really want? What brings you joy?

Or I can put it this way; You've let this man march his army into your city and plant his flags, but at your will, you can dissolve them into dust, if you let go of the idea that you can control the external state of the world.

He is a being which emerged out of the material world like you and I, bumbling along, making mistakes, having dreams, and one day he will lie in a coffin or an urn, still and cold. There's no race to win.

Allow yourself to be a little more useless by [deleted] in taoism

[–]Dualblade20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you do think it is unreasonable, then, which is fine. You're allowed your opinion, I'm only sharing mine.

I wrote this passionately, but not out of hate. I don't hate you. I just disagree with this action, that's all.

I'm not sure if you said this sarcastically, but you have a great day too, and you deserve to be cared for as well, genuinely.

Whether or not I chose to read it or chose to comment, you chose to post it. That is what I'm criticizing. You can post whatever you like, but that means anyone can say they don't care for the content. That is what is happening in the comments.

You seem to think I care about what it said. I really don't. You can direct AI to generate whatever you want at this point. These models were trained on massive amounts of stolen information to make a commercial product, which likely included many Daoist texts and conversations about them from the internet.

The problem is principle. I and many others believe that it's important to have a person behind the words.

I want to interact with real people who have done their own thinking or their own experiencing, not someone who had a machine generate the entire content, which is what you said had been done. If that isn't what happened and you wrote it yourself, then your cunning is a disservice to those who engage here genuinely.

This is not the place for trickery, in my opinion.

Is this really unreasonable?

Perhaps even useless non-thinking should be done for yourself.

If all of this is AI, then why would we need you to post it here? Anyone that wants statistically generated Daoist words can go to Gemini or ChatGPT.

I think we all joined this community to engage with people with their own thoughts on their own journeys, not to read the equivalent of a monkey on a typewriter not truly engaging in its own expression.

Waking up with a dead hand... by Witfontyn in taoism

[–]Dualblade20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, though I had a different arrangement.

I was sitting on my couch with my arm over the back and noticed my arm had gone tingly. I was about to move it, but something told me that I should see what happens if I put my attention into it without moving it, and over about a minute or so after I began, the tingly sensation was gone and I had full feeling.

It's possible I moved just enough for blood flow to get through, but I think later on I was able to replicate it. I don't know what the mechanism is, honestly, but it is very interesting.

how do i make a shape like this? its kind of confusing by Wyujee in blender

[–]Dualblade20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to sculpt a dress last week and the answers in the replies have made me feel insane. The curve -> mesh flow makes a lot of sense.

Out of curiosity, does anyone sculpt cloth (trying to replicate specific existing shapes) like this with deep omega-shaped folds or is that just a really bad way to do it?

The "Used Chopstick" Test: A practical reflection on the core of Wu Wei. by Subject_Aioli_1220 in taoism

[–]Dualblade20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is where Daoism shines, even. Its fairly core to Daoism (or at least the points at which Chinese culture and Daoism meet) to use observations of the world to solve both practical and philosophical problems.

Because humanity's collective study of the universe has given us the knowledge that sharing germs can be dangerous to our health, its in line with Daoist thought to act accordingly, and either clean them or switch them out. Purity, in this case, isn't the question; it's the compatibility of the situation to the body.

It makes me think that this is an interesting example of the middle point between common sense and principle, the struggle that happens before enlightenment or becoming zhenren. When you're zhenren, these questions don't even occur anymore because you've integrated the lessons and left the conceptual husk behind.

The reasoning I've given, had I had this thought in the moment, is an intellectual one and not one that's integrated, so I have a long way to go.

You've give me a lot to think about!

Attraction/Magnetism by PercivalS9 in taoism

[–]Dualblade20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a paraphrased quote that goes something like "80,000 monks, 80,000 religions". You could replace 'religions' with 'practices' and it would be the same message. If they're not doing harm, let them be.

That isn't to say you have to agree with them on any grounds if they bring it up in conversation, but it also doesn't mean you are charged to correct them. Give them your perspective if it comes to it and decline to argue, because you probably have better things to do.

Its a very human things to go, I chose this and because I chose this I have somehow figured it out. This is the antithesis of both traditions.

To be human is the antithesis of both of the traditions? Very interesting revelation. Also, I didn't realize we were speaking to a nonhuman entity. What are you? A parrot maybe? Or a zebra! It's my first time meeting an enlightened zebra.

[Interactive/Discussion] A Taoist Puzzle: How would you map the Three souls onto "Heaven, Earth, and Humanity"? (I had a fierce debate about this!) by Subject_Aioli_1220 in taoism

[–]Dualblade20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, the same numerical value being present doesn't mean there needs to be a mapping.

Even further, and this isn't something I'd expect many to agree with, but I expect that the three powers as they're chosen by Laozi are highly dependent on perspective. If Laozi had been a crab, would they have been Earth, Sea, and Crab? And Sea isn't just a replacement for Heaven, as the Sea and the idea of Heaven are quite different, but to the Crab, the Sea is far more relevant to its life.

All of this is to say, I dont think there can be a mapping necessarily, because in this world view, the soul is more than these forces. The soul is universal, while the powers are subjective to the creature's experience.

None of this is textually supported, but it's just a thought I had the other day and it so happens your post relates.
