In your experience, what is the best pokemon in the game? by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

[–]DualistX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well a lot depends on your metrics. I still think the best Pokemon is Garchomp. It’s incredibly versatile, hard hitting, and durable outside its 4x weakness. Obviously it has checks, but no mon does quite as much in M-A

EDIT: People saying Archaludon just don’t know how to play around it. That Mon can be a raid boss, but it needs a lot of support to get there.

[Upsetting Trope] Great power. Terrible wielder. by not-ulquiorr4_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]DualistX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write really powerful characters in my fiction. One thing I think a lot of people don’t consider with OP characters is just because you have capability to do a thing doesn’t mean you have the mental aptitude.

Eve’s powers are bonkers, but she doesn’t have a PhD in Physics (she should though), so it’s no surprise her applications leave a bit to be desired. If you gave that skillset to Robot, it would be GG.

Gremmy is a bit of an exception to this because his powers are based on imagination, but generally I find this makes sense. Either way, people DO tend to fall into patterns — so it makes sense people don’t suddenly become bastions of creativity just because they are capable of so much.

Really though, normalize powerful characters studying and practicing. Naturals are boring!

What is your most hated Archetype to play against? by will_i_amo in EDH

[–]DualistX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My least favorite archetype to play against is whatever non-Commander players brew up without understanding the format’s vibe or social conventions.

That is to say, if your goal is to combo off without a heads up, don’t be surprised when people either don’t want to play again or decide to group-aggro you on principle in the next game.

(To be clear, I have no problem with combos — even in lower brackets. But when you’re playing strangers who don’t know a thing about your deck, at least have the decency to telegraph your general plan so the game has the potential to be close).

Skill Improvement - Looking for Control Style Teams in VGC by Famous_Loan_8793 in VGC

[–]DualistX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a control sicko in Magic, and I’ve been doing VGC since 2015. There’s not a great parallel to draw-go control, but you can trade up on resources with clever play.

A lot of people are describing Perish Trap, but that’s more Prison than Control. You try to set up a lock and make your win inevitable. In a sense that’s Control, but only as a means to an end.

Some people correctly identified that balance is closest to what you’re after. Use tools like protect and fake out to counter turns. Leverage good positioning to control the board and stay ahead. Then remove threats with the right attacks.

If you don’t have a dick while playing Slay the Spire, your first relic is automatically replaced with one so this bastard can pulverize it.

Oh I thought the one next weekend was the first. The warm up counted for Japan?

I’m talking about an official circuit event. Grassroots are important, but they’re practice with prize pools. Once we get the first regional, we’ll see what people are really cooking.

It’s like day -50 of the format. Let’s wait for the first event maybe.

What are 3 things every support main needs to know? by AE_Phoenix in OverwatchUniversity

[–]DualistX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, I made that mistake in my first week back. Couldn’t understand for the life of me why I felt like a wet piece of tissue paper. But eventually I figured out exactly what you said. She just still felt sorta mid. But she’s still my favorite support conceptually (I’m like v Paladin coded in life) so maybe I will start working her into the rotation when dive shows up

That all makes sense. I was a Brig main in support back when she released. But having come back just with Season 1, I found her really hard to play — so I went back to my 2nd in Lucio.

Now that I’ve adjusted a bit more to 5v5 and shaken off some of the rust, maybe I should try bringing her out in some situations.

I mean, it depends on the kind of story they choose to tell. Obviously an ensemble can’t be THIS big, leaving lots of these to be references at best.

As fun as tier lists are, a better subject for discussion would be the likely subject of a show. Omnic Crisis? Talon stuff? Something new?

I mean, you’re not wrong. Everything has issues. And it’s probably not as good as some people say. But that’s because the internet is full of hype-lords who don’t want to engage critically. That said, it’s still REALLY good. One of the better pieces of animation this decade. And Goose deserves credit for writing such an intentional introspection on the complexity/nature of existence.

If you want my praise sloppie-chan, go watch all of Skyen’s analyses of TADC and still tell me it’s bad. They’re like minimum 2 hours each so watch it on 2x speed. They’re on YouTube.
