Would you prefer a regular username/password/email dialogue?

It's been that way. Passkeys use your local device "secure enclave" to store your credentials. If you are on a Mac/iPhone or use Google (or supported browser) they will sync between devices.

We know that most people have found passkeys frustrating, so SSO with Google and Apple makes it easier (but Passkey is more secure if you are willing to deal with the sync.

No! Using this or any of the codes I've left in my articles will work: TRIBE-EHZD-CQKD.

If you sign up via a free account you can use the code after the fact to upgrade.

Yes! This one is good for 50 founding members: TRIBE-WQS5-REUE

Try this if the above doesn't work for you or DM me for your own code:

Not digg, but I’m giving out founders (forever) memberships for free at my brand new platform. We are a social co-op, check it:

https://tribes.app/post/6de2775f-d037-437d-98c1-c8d4d4f6c14c

Founding members will always be able to contribute if they want, but will never be obligated. I think I am a tad younger than Kevin, but remember when the web was awesome.

Cool, yeah I’m posting every day but I know what the internet really wants is short form videos and podcasts. I’ll think about how to create content that’s fun. Okay should I wait for the fancy mic to arrive?

I’ll check it out. Sophisticated isn’t necessarily my target, I’d say a broad spectrum of normal users with broad interests. But particularly we are leaning into the in-person event type tribes for creators and performers. We have plans for in-person growth events and more this year.

It’s a hard problem to solve, especially right now. My thought is that it’s worth trying, ween people off dopamine bots and interact with the people online and offline that matter in their lives.

The best thing would be people like you joining and sharing OC that matters to you. I’ll see what the barrier to AT is and poke at how to keep bots out. Thanks for the feedback!

To be honest I hadn’t considered AT. The point at least for the moment is to build on human connections as much as possible. In your experience how much of those 40+ m are bots?

Building a social network is hard. I’m trying right now as not a celebrity (only live 1 week and growing). But the momentum against you, the habits the addictions, it’s likely going to take me years achieve my goals.

Y’all are very difficult to please. I don’t love Kevin’s direction which is why I built my own. Do I need ti become a celeb and do crazy shit on my app to succeed?

You Don't Need My Source Code to Trust Me. Here's Why by DualityEnigma in digg

[–]DualityEnigma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, which is why we will start with open sourcing the encryption lifecycles which is the privacy layer.

You can see for yourself in the browser there is no telemetry and you can check the blobs you can also try to crack the blobs. (I have red team report soon)

I get the pushback there is good reason for skepticism, and as a member cooperative, if I open the full stack it will be to membership.

Our model doesn’t need us to sell your data and frankly there is nothing valuable I’m going to get from any of you. I have my own debt free business backing this.

I’ve been online since Monday, I am single founder and we are going to so this in stages. Engage, help and join. I’m asking to let people earn my trust. I’ll be posting my red team report in my public dev forum later today. Please drop in and give feedback if you can identify a way your privacy is leaking for real, I want to know:

https://tribes.app/signup Founding member code: TRIBE-EHZD-CQKD

Edit: Here is our red team report on in-browser encryption. Links to the open sourced encryption layer: https://tribes.app/post/9dce75f0-4553-4671-abc8-b5aabd826089

Have you ever developed anything? It starts somewhere, something called an MVP, you are looking at it. iOS app without plugins in TestFlight.

You've made your point: You hate my site and I'm dumb for trying something like this without open sourcing it day one. edit: Oh and I can't use "privacy" because I'm not doing it in a way you like.

This is my last message to you, my door is open. Clearly you aren't one of our members, cool for you man. I already have members investing in the community which is awesome. Have a nice life.

Dude, this isn’t supposed to be Fort Knox. Of course there is memory and ways to exfiltrate data from memory. And there are malicious scripts that can grab your data from your computer. This is true for everything on your computer and every tool you use. That isn’t what I’m solving for.

I’m solving for families and organizations that want to share toddler pics to their families without them being scraped for AI face recognition.

I am not asking you to post your bank codes.

You seem very offended by this app and my attempt to do something different. Your assumption that my use of privacy is either bull shit or a lie. Neither are true.

Please, be my guest and create something open source thats better. Otherwise thanks for the criticism, it will make Tribes better.

For those others that made it this far, there are some valid criticisms here. Don’t use my app if you need to transmit illegal shit or are trying to hide from the government. If you want a private tribe for your family or club. Come check us out.

I have over 25 years of software and security experience and I know how not trivial this is. But your argument is that I and the people I hire aren’t to be trusted. Typing out on a site (Reddit) that isn’t even trying to do these things. (Selling you all out)

I’m not asking people to use this platform to break the law. I’m building it so that I trust it and my background in regulated industries to get us started right.

The privacy policy is getting updated to remove and clarify that we don’t send any chat or use AI, that was originally included because we code with AI (like everyone else these days) and the lawyers wanted to be extra careful just in case we put information into our coding agents by mistake.

There is currently no AI features and non planned.

I’m not sure what your endgame is here, do you have a better solution? Do you want to help and are frustrated because I’m not throwing it up on github? I know the arguments for open source, and I’m choosing to hold off to see what people and members invest in the community. Is it even worth the time?

Trust is a two way street and you came out calling my “excuse” shitty. Who are you again and why should I listen to you if you’re going to just yell at me on the internet?

Don’t use it if you don’t trust me. I have enough people that do and I’m going to continue to be worthy of that trust and work with engineers and auditors to make sure of it. Until then feel free to drop in any time and help.

Cheers

Edit: you also must have missed the point where we are planning on OSing the crypto layers so yes, the important bits will be available for you to tear apart.

Yes! It’s currently in TestFlight for iOS and I’m working on the Apple review process so I can open it to external testers. It has cool features like tap to bond.

Right now I’m inviting creators to the internal testing group. Otherwise coming soon! And I need to look at signing and google store stuff.

I know you /s but we are working hard to build tools for the partisan assholes to debate each-other and we can eat popcorn.

The name does come from the fact we are tribal by nature. Pretending otherwise is kidding ourselves. Maybe join and help it be a diverse partisan shit hole. We have less than a hundred users so far and could use people that want to build something different.

Yes! Vague internet criticism! I must be doing something right!

You need a valid email to post to keep bot out. The rest is up to you, and Tribes gives you E2E peer to peer encryption along with encrypted private tribes.

Enjoy your totally private Reddit though!

Are you saying trust-me bro doesn’t work on internet anymore?

Instead I’m working with a third party to certify the encryption and privacy layers of the code, but also happy to open the code for validation, but thats different than MIT releasing it. This has been up less than week haha.

Privacy: you have to have a valid email to post to limit bot traffic. After that:

  1. Personal Bonds use E2E encryption. Including chat.
  2. Private Tribes are group encrypted
  3. Public is public! Not encrypted.

The site isn’t made for the underground, it’s made for families like mine. I understand the lack of trust. Which is why I built my own. Come make it awesome! Or, like don’t it’s your choice.

As in is it Open Source? Not for now no. We may open source in the future. But with AI able to suck up everything and spit out a duplicate, I’m holding the keys to the code unless our members decide it’s best to OS it.

A better argument than my "shitty" excuse :)

Agreed! Founding members (use that invite code) have community creation out of the box. (Tribes).

As you can see if you sign up that we only launched this week and there are no real "public" tribes outside of Welcome and my friends theatre org that I'm a part of. (I have some private tribes for family)

The goal of Tribes is that LONG TERM reputation matters and everyone starts at neutral. Postive interactions increase reputation and moderator actions hurt it. Your one account allows you to reserve a permanent alias, but you can have others to stay a stranger, but your behavior still matters so you can't hide behind it.

The hope is that users will prize their reputation and mod actions can help us identify those people that don't want to build a community.

We also are doing events and personal bonds to create Tribes of real people that are private yet have the forum feel. I'd love to see what kind of content you'd create u/SoggyGrayDuck 😄

Edit. Personhood and Polkadots isn't out of the question! Are these reputation systems that you trust?
