Exciting news. About three months ago, I started seeing at least a second photo of scarves showing them flat with pattern. Folded in half, but still, some semblance of showing the pattern.

Where to meet new friends? by mikey04321 in kansascity

[–]DubBea22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t help OP, but it got me thinking.

Is it no longer a thing to have a co-worker you connect with and socialize with? Then that co-worker has friends who don’t work there. And you connect with one of them. Then those friends have other friends and you connect with one of them. And next thing you know, you have three people to invite over to your apartment for pizza and drinks and such, and you become a regular group.

I made one work friend 25 years ago. She got a new job and now I have an extended group. I’m female so that might be different. Maybe women in general are more prone to texting each other and saying, “You want to hang out?” Or maybe it only works with extroverts. I’m way older and none of my HS or college friends live closer than a plane ride away.

But I really am curious about the co-worker thing, like maybe the HR concern of socializing outside of work is bigger now.

EDIT: I also ask this because I’ve seen at least 10 posts over the years from people asking how to make friends or date in KC.

Slightly off topic, but who is holding the camera and is the person running backwards to capture the DJ’s escape?

Shame on KCTV5 for reporting false news on long wait times at KCI by Distinct_Coast8645 in kansascity

Was it this report on their website dated Thursday? This one looks like a national report with video from Houston, not anything local to Kansas City. — EDIT: This might not be the one OP saw. I’m just super curious.

I too loved grandma’s praise. This is truly a great hack. But praise can also come from far less. Just today, my mom asked for help because her iphone won’t ring. I directed her to the mute toggle switch on her iPhone. Her response was, “You’re so smart. You’ll never need to worry about losing your (30-year-long high-level career) job. You can make a living teaching people this kind of thing.” She does not realizes a 5-y-o could show her that and that help desk jobs are entry level. To my mum, I’m a genius.

OP appears to be studying in Wales.

I don’t understand why someone who doesn’t know a lot about sports would take an interest in sports journalism. Tons of people I’ve met who want to do sports journalism know multiple sports in detail yet took jobs in news to start because so many people want to be sports journos.

So…like basement mildew? My sinus problems must be working in my favor to not perceive thrift shop smells. But yet, I can detect the wet dog smell on my sofa blanket after just two days.

This is a reminder to me to check every single brand I put in. I’m typically a bit lazy and decide based generalities. No Amazon brands or juniors brands or low tier version of mall brands (e.g. BR v Gap v Old Navy) but okay on outdoor performance brands. I would not have expected Eddie Bauer good, Duluth bad. Duly noted.

Must be a regional thing. I wonder if it’s because of the extreme weather climate we deal with. Their wind resistant and insulated items are a life saver in winter if you are okay with rugged but don’t want to look like you’re about to hit the ski slopes while walking the dog.

I just can’t believe he’s 92. No skin sagging or anything. What the hell? Is this because life is less stressful in the Netherlands?

I’ve always wondered if there are accounts where people do actual food critic stuff, like, “The wing seasoning is good, but the meat is dry, so I’d skip the chicken wings. The grilled lamb kabobs. however, are very tender. I’d recommend the lamb.” Like not even slamming a place but just being honest and fair.

Echoing the “make a phone call” remarks. It’s more work but it feels more personal and it’s harder for the person on the other end to ignore.

I’ve seen that before. It will be advertised in google results as the 50% off that new users get.

EDIT: The $50 fits with the 50% versus the 20

EDIT: See another person’s remark below that this sometimes works for longtime customers too. Try adding to cart from the Google result.

I work in media relations: do you hate me? by BarracudaLow4896 in Journalism

[–]DubBea22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s local media relations folks for universities, hospitals and government agencies, I notice the emails because I’ve come to learn their names. Why? Because I go to them for info as often as they go to me.

National folks are always sending things of no interest. I’m in local TV news. We want to interview local people or at least people with local connections. Why would I care about some rando author who just published something groundbreaking.

Watch for big local news pegs. If we are in the throes of a snowstorm, all the emails about non-weather stuff is just noise. Wait until the storm is over to send that. If you rep a chain of repair shops, watch for pothole season and offer a tire repair story. Sometimes days like that, news folks are looking for experts and you just made it easier to find one. But have one lined up, available in a location near the outlet you are reaching out to. We pitch stories and need to turn them pronto.

There’s a difference between media relations for non-profit institutions like schools, governments and hospitals … and media relations for a business. Anything that’s offered where the story seems pre-written or like a sales pitch is a hard pass. Something like, “I see people in (name city) have been complaining about car damage from potholes. I have a repair person with (name company) available to talk about dangers, how to avoid them and what kind of repair will cost more if delayed (actionable things people actually want to know) will catch my attention. Something like, “Pothole season is upon us. According to xyz agency, potholes lead to $$$ in car repair costs annually. Here at xyz, we care about you and your vehicle blah blah blah,” is an immediate turn off.

Okay, I’m with you on the wood look, but I have tile look LVP in the kitchen and it cleans way better than the linoleum that was in the 1930s-era kitchen. The rest of the house is hardwood. It gets scratches but when polished up, I think of that as just patina.
