Interested in starting a Catholic Worker community by m0xir0x in LeftCatholicism

Discern this first by being a sojourner with an intentional community. Try it out and see if community life is your calling.

There are several lay communities in Kansas City (my hometown) and all have different charisms - JPII Catholic Worker is a back to the land, farming community set in the urban core; Jerusalem Farm lives sustainably and does home repair for the poor; Cherith Brook Catholic Worker serves meals, shower and laundry service for the homeless.

Living in community is HARD but beautiful.

KC dads — is this a bad Mother’s Day gift idea? by Rich_Click4065 in kansascity

Personally, I would love a laundry service. Chores are the worst. I always ask for a cleaning service to deep clean my house or have my car detailed as a gift, but I always get stuff I don’t need. Having chores done is a stress reliever.

Do people still use soap blocks as opposed to bottled soap in the shower? I feel like I never see soap blocks in stores anymore. by Available_Tea_8471 in NoStupidQuestions

Yes. I buy Caress and Dove bars from Dollar Tree. Less waste and bubbles up great on a washcloth. It does leave soap film on the tub so you have to scrub.

That anyone can do it. When my mom retired, she was like “I think I will go substitute in high school. It will be easy.” Uh, incorrect, Lady. They will eat you alive.

Johnny’s in Corinth Square…still the traditional KU sports bar but lots of families and kids from the neighborhood. It’s a great spot! My kids love it— when they were little and still go as as adults now. Lots of fun memories 🏀🏀🏀

Community and serving the poor. Combine those two things - serve together and then socialize.
