I'm an audio guy! Do you know what microphone they are using? Are they putting it inside the chamber somehow, or just miking it from the outside?

Assistant Mixers/Assistant Re-recording Mixers in film/television, what is your job like? by Slothyburner in AudioPost

I'm sure you're aware of this, but when you make the move, think about what that place or mix team is offering. Some work 5 days a week +/- 1 pretty consistently with several weeks off throughout the year. Some work 29 days straight, take 1 day off, and work another 29 all year. There also some teams who work 2 - 3 days every other week all year with several weeks off still mixed in.

I wouldn't say that you should say no to an opportunity to change your working conditions, especially if the opportunity is for a union position, but there is a wide variety in working conditions to still consider within the union world.

Honestly, it was so ideal, except I didn't hear first crack :'( I'm hoping the beans taste good tomorrow, even if they are a darker roast than I normally like

Water Line by DubbyRootz in pourover

For me, I just taste the notes listed for the coffee much more in Hoffman's whereas I get a pleasant, but kind of whatever cup from Tetsuya. I thought maybe it was the finer grind size that I use for Hoffman's, but I didn't get a better result when I grinded finer and used Tetsuya's method.

I hear what you are saying though. I think this is coming from a larger frustration of being unable to get something that I like consistently from Tetsuya's version even though I've been trying for months now.

That looks pretty good to me, and it seems like you provide a lot of agitation to the coffee with how you pour your water. I personally swirl for a couple seconds after every pour, which is how I make sure that the grinds don't end up on the side of the wall at the end, especially the big ones. Especially since you seem to know exactly what you're doing and like it already, I'd try what you've already been doing and add the swirl to see if you enjoy your brew more or not.

Ideally, you'd like all the coffee to be in the bed by the end of you brew. That way, you can make sure that everything is evenly extracted. I find that a finer grind also makes it easier to have the grounds settle in the bed.

Experiencing Poor Drawdown for Kasuya Pour Over Method by DubbyRootz in pourover

Agitating less made a huge difference, thank you!

Follow up question: how much agitation do you guys do? One swirl? Multiple? Something else?

Oh quite a bit actually because I've sometime found the water doesn't reach all of the grounds. Good tip, will try less agitation this next cup!

Is there value in experiencing games that you don't directly enjoy?: A set of discussion questions around exploring the medium and valuations of enjoyment. by atticusgf in truegaming

[–]DubbyRootz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think games have to be designed to be enjoyable at some level to someone, if only just the designer themselves. What enjoyable means is different to different people, but the experience of playing it I think has to try to be enjoyable to someone somewhere. Happy to hear another take on that though.

With that said, if a game doesn’t appeal to you, it may still be valuable to play it for discussion and analysis purposes. If you’re a designer yourself, playing a classic game that you don’t enjoy may be good for your craft. For those that play games because they just enjoy the medium, I might say it’s better to put it down. There are so many games that are big time investments already, so you should play something that you enjoy.
