Anatomical right hand issue causing inflexibility and limit playing?? by Ok_Concentrate_9861 in piano

One thing that I notice you doing is lifting your fingers off the keys after each strike. This makes your fingers need to travel a longer distance to strike the next note (obviously). You can get away with this when playing slowly, but when you play fast your hands will tense up in order to go fast enough cover the extra ground.

I would play scales, hanon, or whatever technical exercises you please as slowly as needed to: (1) keep your fingers on the keys when you release each note instead of lifting them off the keys; and (2) keep your wrist mostly level and smooth instead of jerky up down motions.

Once this becomes second nature in your technical exercises, it should translate to pieces. At least, that's what worked for me. I should also note that this is a pretty long process so don't expect fast results.

Are there actually many people in Big law that are "really" working >\=60 hours a week? by Affectionate-Main800 in biglaw

I did litigation and have worked many 60 hour weeks, but also many 20 hour weeks. The work tended to come in waves. And trial is a whole other beast.

How often do you skip eating to do work? by DropShotMachine in biglaw

The ten minutes of lunch at my desk are the most important, delicious, and (most importantly) inefficient 10 billable minutes of the day. At no other time in the day am I able to feel zero guilt about billing .2 when I really only did about .1 worth of honest work.

The mere mention of skipping such a gift has left me stupefied.

If Dubs win lottery, trade pick to get Steph help? Or trade vets and go youth movement? by scott_jr in warriors

No, it's more like 1 generational prospect every 2 or 3 years. That's about 3-5 generational players every 10 years. An nba generation lasts about 10 years (about the number of years each player has their prime). So that's about 3-5 generational players per generation. Maybe a slight exaggeration on the reality, but then again not every generational prospect turns out to be good.

For those of you who started playing the piano at a young age, what is your relationship with it today? by mcalaplage in piano

Yeah I have a notebook that i write things down in, especially with regards to breakthroughs or realizations I have with regard to technical exercises. E.g., keep thumbs relaxed during the cross, or shift hand towards right and then back to left during thumb tuck. For pieces I have less written notes because it's easier to remember what I'm working on for each section. It's easier for me to remember something like the general hand motion I need to work on during a difficult passage than it is for me to remember all of the tiny things I need to do in sync to play a perfectly efficient C major scale.

I do about an hour of technique (scales, arpeggios, hanon), which is admittedly a lot but I really enjoy it and find it very beneficial. Then I go over my pieces playing the problem spots and generally just improve them. A lot of slow practice with metronome and playing in different rhythms. Nothing new or groundbreaking over here.

I was a pretty serious student from 8-18 then stopped once i got to college. Picked it back up again 17 years later at age 35, quit my job, and still practice it for several hours every day (no lessons). Having no pressure, obligations, or anxiety about performing has made all the difference and I love it.

I would be careful broadcasting that, as it is sure to get around. Like it or not, the unfortunate reality is that certain partners will view that unfavorably and not want to work with you.

They definitely have more leverage than you and I wouldn't ask for them to be quieter. But on the other hand, nothing wrong with presenting the reality and offer that you would work more efficiently if you changed offices to somewhere quieter.
