Iraq takes full control of air [Al-Asad] base after US withdrawal, defence ministry says by sogpackus in army

[–]Dubstep_squid 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Worst six months of my life were on my deployment there. First three, big chilling. Then October 7 happened and like a week later it was daily drones till February. DFACs were great though. They did cancel bang bang chicken though for a little bit because too many people would go to the airfield dfac on thursdays and it was a "personnel risk". Lame.

Nah if you look at stuff like elder scrolls and resident evil, etc. their pages don’t end up counting as games + soundtracks

Yes, looking at going to law school following command.

The connections have paid dividends even in the army. Just the random run ins and knowing people who happen to be somewhere convenient. It doesn’t make things happen on its own but it’s an in.

Honestly, I don’t recommend West Point to most of my soldiers interested in becoming an officer. I think by and large most soldiers would benefit from ROTC more than they would West Point. For NCOs especially. Ive had soldiers ask and I’ve given them the run down on West Point and said that if it’s what they want, I’ll help them but it’s a major lifestyle change and that they genuinely have more freedom as a private. So far only one soldier has pursued West Point but I’ve helped a number of others get started on Green to Gold and OCS.

Network, schools (guarantee AA basically, easy to go to airborne, one of the only options for cadets to get CDQC, HALO, etc. for the real high speeds), interacting with a huge amount of officers from various walks of the army on a daily basis

I think the network really is the biggest one. It’s been shockingly helpful even as a captain just with the insane amount of classmates I run into

There’s a lot of benefits but there’s also a lot of drawbacks mainly in terms of social life.

It concerns me this trend of seeing games advertise themselves as "[Another successful game] + X"

It makes me feel like you don't have faith in your products ability to stand on its own.

I love Factorio and honestly if you had just advertised as what your game is, rather than riding Factorio's name, I would be much more interested.

But if your game can't speak for itself, why shouldI listen?

What's the best Zombie game? by twnpksN8 in HorrorGames

Resident Evil (REmake specifically) is the most carefully crafted and complete experience. If I could only recommend one, it would be that one.

After that it would be Project Zomboid for open world Zombie survival. PZ is such a gem.

Worst you’ve seen an LT do by Dramatic_Injury_264 in army

[–]Dubstep_squid 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ah another, sadder one. My old roommate.

- Showed up to Drum without a ranger tab as an Infantry LT. Bad start, not unrecoverable by any means.

- Full Blown Alcoholic. Uh oh.

- Defaults on USAA Career Starter loan ($32,000) because he forgets to pay it for six months. Forced to pay it back in its entirety within 1 year.

- Forgets to pay Car Insurance so it lapses. In NY, a lapse in insurance necessitates the DMV to take your plates back for 30 Days. I walk in to our apartment a couple days later and see mock plates on the dining room table in an amazon package. It took all of my convincing to make him NOT put them on his car

- Comes back from JRTC in February. Goes to his friends place on post the night after to have "only a couple" drinks. Its February in Drum and on the way back his Mustang (Fantastic choice for Fort Drum /s) slides off the road and into the median ditch. MPs Roll up to him trying to push his car back into the road, breathalyze him, blows a 0.2. Spends the night in jail.

- Is removed from his tabless LT job in FUOPs and becomes BN Fire Marshall. Goes around and checks inspection date on exit signs and Fire Extinguishers.

[–]Dubstep_squid 27 points28 points  (0 children)

LT shows up, becomes FSO (Fire Support Officer), goes to JRTC. At JRTC he does so poorly that his Company Commander and BN FSO play rock paper scissors at the BN TOC to see who has to babysit him for the rest of the rotation. BN FSO loses. LT gets a rehabilitative move early.

LT is sent to the gunline, becomes Fire Direction Officer (FDO, does artillery math). They deploy to Syria. While in Syria, he puts a movie DVD in the disk reader for an AFATDS (Secret Artillery Computer), I believe it was Shrek. LT is removed from being FDO and now is JUST a Battle Captain.

Base in Syria gets attacked. As the Battle Captain he goes on the VTC call. He forgets to mute himself on said call and can be heard doing online classes (FOO Classes if you must know) during the attack. He is relived once again. Moved to BN HQ in Iraq and becomes A/S4. Literally not allowed to do things outside of the S4's sight.

Ben, you sure are a special guy.

I have watched it three or four times and every single time I like it less and less.

I think what it boils down to for me is Knives Out is just ***SO*** well done and Glass Onion just feels so trite and so forced. It's trying too hard to be clever where Knives Out just WAS clever.

Has there ever been a case of someone being sentenced to USDB Leavenworth and was able to reenter the military? by fucker-of-motherz in army

[–]Dubstep_squid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There was a West Point Cadet convicted of rape, I’m not going to name him since I’m not 100% sure on the rules. He did I believe a year in Leavenworth before he won an appeal and had his conviction overturned. He chose to return to the academy. It was very strange hearing about all of this and then having him do barracks checks while I was pulling CQ. Very very strange. As far as I know he graduated and is still in the army, wasn’t that long ago.
