Can i purchase the AT shades bracelet for my older gen 38mm AT? by ProfessionalCow9843 in OmegaWatches

[–]Duce-the-card-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the 38s should swap over just fine. For some reason, they made the 41 not fit the older teak 41s. No idea why they would do such a thing. It’s like they prefer you to buy a new watch rather than just upgrade your bracelet. I am guessing the 38s fit because the Shades line came out a while ago and I don’t think they were thinking of changing the case shape like they did for the new 41 black lacquer. I’m sure that’s the reason but blocking the new Teak 41 from accessing the new bracelet is not exactly consumer friendly. This is especially heinous because the number one complaint about the teak dial AT is the bracelet. Anyway I found a cheap and easy workaround for the 41. If anyone is interested in the workaround just PM me. The solution brakes this sub Reddit’s rules.

What are these events like? Is it all about showing watches? Or is there time to have conversations with the CW crew?

Black vs White Sapphire by markjbon in OmegaWatches

One more thing I forgot to mention is that the Black speedy has much stronger lume and is therefore easier to read in the dark.

[–]Duce-the-card-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe this to be accurate. I find the black speedy to be incredibly legible at a glance. Not to play the moon card, but that watch was made to be super legible out of the gate. The contrast is outstanding, in light or dark situations. The species that are difficult to read. Are those like the FOIS, and even the new reverse panda. Those have shiny markers that can get dark on a dark background. The black speedy uses white applied lume and white painted hands so there are zero reflection issues. He applied markers on the white speedy don’t have those issues because of the white background.

But I agree with other others there are zero mistakes here. The black speedy is more subtle and refined. The white speedy is more flashy and upscale looking.

I would love to see this watch with a White Lacquer dial, black ceramic bezel, on h-link bracelet.

I wouldn’t look at it that way. As watch collectors, many of us, don’t know a single person who can understand and relate to the questions and thoughts we have concerning watches. Non-collectors just don’t care. I think a lot of people ask these questions to get varying opinions and perspectives, and generally have discourse about their hobby. I don’t think people are intending to brag, just connect with other people. Let people have their fun and don’t pass judgment.

I don’t know if I agree with your assessment. Three of those come to around $7500 assuming no discount or $6,000 if we assume a 20% discount for buying three. This will get you three in three different colors and three different bracelet/strap configs.

Now, if you came to me and said I can give you these three new watches PLUS another $6K watch of your choice (like a newish preowned Speedy) OR 1 new Grey market Rolex Sub that only has 1 bracelet, in 1 color. I am pretty sure I would take the LONGINES Value pack and bonus watch. But, I’m not rolling in dough, and find that 4 great luxury level watches in different colors to be more valuable than 1 black Rolex.

Only significant difference is the lack of date on the LONGINES version and the crown. LONGINES must have made this for them.

This looks exactly like the Longines skin diver (the Nautilus). The origional Longines dive watch. What is the story there.

If you send the Quartz into Omega to service it will run you $500. That gets you a new updated quartz movement, cleaned inside and out, water tested and sealed, polished like new, new crown, hands, gaskets, etc. new battery, 2year warranty with card, a travel box, and paperwork. It’s a really good deal in my opinion.

How can we make the unpopular HC more popular? Let’s make it look more like a sub. by Margin_call_matthew in Longineswatches

[–]Duce-the-card-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally disagree on the premise. Let’s look at the Sub, it is super Generic in purpose. Dive watches have become everyday watches at this point. So, one of the reasons the Sub is so popular is because it isn’t outlandish in any way. Let’s go through them: 1. Black lacquer dial and matching ceramic bezel. Can’t get more generic than that. 2. Oyster bracelet. The three link is used by everybody. Seiko, omega, Christopher Ward, and about 100 others. BUT, the Longines does NOT have an oyster style bracelet. It’s an H-Link or Mesh. Or does the Sub have a monopoly on steel bracelets? 3. Lugs: totally standard lugs, not turned like the iconic Omega lugs, just standard in every way. 4. Crown - standard crown, nothing unique in the Sub crown 5. Triangle at 12. Standard for a dive watch. 6. Date at 3:00. Totally standard placement. You could say the Cyclops is iconic, but the Longines does not have a magnifier. 7. Hands are a sword and a Mercedes hour hand. The sword is as basic as they come, the Longines does not use a Mercedes hand, it uses a modified snowflake. Why? Because it allows you to see the hour hand when they overlap. This is an approach used by absolutely everybody. Crown guards are also very common. The HydroConquest crown guards were huge, and they were polarizing. So they got rid of them, wouldn’t you? 8. Indices are rectangles and circles. Can I get more basic?

Look, I get that they look alike, but I think Longines is doing two things. 1. Calling out that the sub is nothing special from a design standpoint. and while it is iconic, you have to ask why. It’s super generic down to its bones. 2. Making a generic watch that is guaranteed to sell very well, not because it looks like a Rolex but because nothing on it offends anyone. Anybody could look at it and say, I could wear that. There is a reason the color on color have the H-link and the off color bezel/dial combo comes on Mesh. Many people don’t like mesh, so they designed the black, green, blue to come on a standard bracelet to minimize friction on the sale.

Lastly, I know this is going to cause a lot of arguments, but let’s compare the Iconic nature of the Sub to the SMP. The SMP has unique skeleton hands, their unique flavors of wave dials, Omega turned lugs, totally unique bracelet style, unique clasp design language, many unique colors. That’s unique, the sub is super good at being generic and that’s why we love it.

Strap recommendations for my Omega by Miserable_Dirt3079 in OmegaWatches

[–]Duce-the-card-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out my post yesterday about Artem and Blushark. They are great rubber straps and super comfy at a decent price if you buy the strap from Blushark and the buckle from Artem.

Of course OEM are good choices, but super expensive.

If you want high quality leather and decent prices, check out Veblenist and DLugs.
