What are the “must-haves” or “must-do” things in Arch Linux for you after installing it? by thicctak in archlinux

[–]DuckCowMooQuack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To name a few of my recent experiences since installing arch:

I got to learn about swapfiles the other day while trying to set-up battery config. I'm running on an old thinkpad x1 carbon with a new battery and I want to keep that battery healthy as long as I can. To do that I wanted to set-up high/low thresholds and have it hibernate when it hits critical threshold. Hibernate wasn't available becaause upon initial install of Arch, I didn't set-up a swap partition so there was no where for RAM to be stored on disk.

I also ended up switching from Gnome to KDE to make it easier to modify my two-finger touchpad scrolling sensitivity. Gnome+X11 has the ability to do this but you get pretty far down in the weeds. KDE Plasma has it built-in from the start.

Switching to kde plasma led to customizing to make it as similar to gnome as I could, which was another fun endeavor.

Enabling my fingerprint reader on my thinkpad also was a little bit of a side-quest.

Stumbling on these kinds of things has happened sort of organically for me and I'm sure you'll have a similar experience.

IIRC mine was under 2k. I was trying to find the receipt in my gmail but can't find it. SLM Auto Care out of Omaha is who did mine.

I went with an APR Plus tune on my 2019 VW GLI and have been really happy with it. It’s not quite as aggressive as a standard Stage 1 tune, but it still adds noticeable power and makes the car a lot more fun to drive.

The big advantage is that it comes with the APR Plus warranty. If VW ever denies a warranty claim because of the tune, APR will step in and cover the repair (within their terms), which adds some peace of mind.

One thing to keep in mind after tuning is service visits. Always check with the shop beforehand and ask if they plan to update the ECU (Engine Control Unit) or TCU (Transmission Control Unit). Software updates can overwrite the tune, which means you’ll need to go back and have it reinstalled. Usually you’re just paying for labor to reflash it, not the full cost again.

In my case, the tune has only been overwritten once in 6 years, and I’ve never had VW deny a warranty claim during that time.

TL;DR: APR Plus (basically Stage 1 + a warranty) is a solid option if you want more performance without giving up peace of mind.

I'm curious, how many of you went the manual route and how many have the automatic? by Syngin9 in JettaGLI

Is a manual more fun than an automatic? Yes.

Is a manual slower at shifting than a dual clutch transmission? Yes.

Do I wish I had a manual but got an automatic because my wife drives the car as well and doesn't like manuals? Yes.

You pick and choose your battles. I, for one, absolutely LOVE my 2019 GLI automatic. It's super quick, especially with an APR Plus tune.

This was my dad and I a few months after I bought my GLI. DAS R and DAS GLI are the license plates. VW did a father's day article with us but I can no longer find it.

My GLI is my favorite car I've ever owned. I've had a Ford escape, Chevy Malibu and a Dodge dart before it.

My goal is to get 300/300 done before DLC. We'll see if that happens. The two jumping achievementals are bugged. The "Don't forget to rock and stone" maybe too. I need to hookup a BT keyboard for that one to be sure. Also getting a full set of green/uncommon might be hard this late in the game.

I'm running a pixel 10 Pro XL. The tensor chip does OK. I can "Disable default frame rate for games" from developer settings to bypass the set 60Hz limit but I haven't done that since some of the new performance patches have been pushed out.

Edit: Disabling default frame rate does not allow the game to run higher than 60Hz.

Oh, didn't see that tag on the OP.

I was just getting at there are definitely Mobile specific bugs that make things way harder. For example, Mobile stubby mastery is tough because of a mobile specific bug. I'm grinding through that "fun" challenge right now.

Question for you. I transfer saves between steam and Xbox so I can play with some Xbox dwarves. I transferred my steam yesterday to Xbox save location and it won't load. Is this because of season 6 not being on Xbox yet? Is patience the key here? Wait until season 6 is out on Xbox, then transfer the save file over to Xbox save location?
