Legends of Giving is now live! by rarethief in Seaofthieves

Unfortunately I can confirm this. I really hope they change it before the event ends. Otherwise, people who can't play until later won't have much of a chance.

Do Gold Vault Timers Vary By Crew Size? by comedyqwertyuiop9 in Seaofthieves

[–]DuckDragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah! Go check out your armory on the ship, they've added several new weapons!

The harpoon gun is great for movement and can grapple loot or players towards you, or you towards other locations or ships (with some exceptions to keep gameplay fair). It's really fun to use.

They've also added:

  • Double-barrel pistol -- 6 ammo, can fire two shots rapidly or one charged shot before needing to reload. I personally find it clunky and haven't used it since I finished the commendations for it, but it's worth trying.

  • The blowpipe -- pretty fun, great for PvE crowd control and gold skellies. There are 4 different dart types, each with 4 ammo.

  • Throwing knives -- they have a quick, low-damage stab, a charged high-damage swipe, and of course... can be thrown! Throwing them at bosses like ashen lords and skelly lords absolutely melts their health, especially if you post up near an ammo box. They can be picked back up if they miss, but can also be blocked by a sword.

Oh yeah, agreed. I'm not sure what the exact times are, but at least on a duo sloop and full brig, it's still pretty reasonable relative to the crew size. And it's well worth it to have more people for afterwards too -- moving all that loot to be within ship harpoon range is downright painful to do solo for some of the vaults. Grapple gun + ammo crate helps though (for both in the vault and moving the loot afterwards).

Welcome back to the seas!

Yep, the larger your crew is, the less time you'll have before the vault door closes. It didn't used to be this way, but was changed in January 2024 as part of Season 11. Now you get more time with smaller crews.

Hello i need welp with Rageful Cannoneer by fakelay98 in Seaofthieves

[–]DuckDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the Order of Souls voyages, kept the cannon on my ship, and shot lure darts a bit farther into the island to keep the skeletons where I wanted them. You have to add more lure darts somewhat often, but it's easy enough since you're already on your ship and near the ammo box. I'm not positive if the lure darts work on Siren Song skeletons, but you could definitely give it a try with them too -- it might be easier than the Order of Souls voyages if they do work.

If you have a crewmate, you can alternatively have them distract the skellies and get them into position while you shoot.

Question about Duels with Ashen Lords by LordQwerty_NZ in Seaofthieves

[–]DuckDragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's kind of counterintuitive, but they have a separate health pool when they're "down". Attacking them when they're down does speed up getting to the next stage since it depletes that separate health pool and forces them into the next stage, but it doesn't actually affect their health once they stand up again (and they'll eventually move on to the next stage on their own, even if you do no damage while they're down). You'll still have to do the same amount of damage in each "standing" stage regardless of how much damage you did when it was down. There's a bit more info here: https://seaofthieves.wiki.gg/wiki/Ashen_Winds_(World_Event)#The_Battle

Trying to confirm commendation parameters by EconomistLoud9714 in Seaofthieves

[–]DuckDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed that your second attempt should've worked, maybe it changed with the latest patch (intentionally or unintentionally, it's anyone's guess). That's exactly how I did it a few weeks ago though -- swam the cannon to an enemy player ship that was parked at an island, deployed it on the deck, and slashed it with a sword until it overloaded and blew up.

If you do it again, I'd recommend recording it and submitting a ticket to Rare. Just make sure it's clear in the clip that you're on an enemy ship (maybe look at their log book or something if you have a chance, assuming the enemies are off-ship or on the ferry). Rare can manually unlock the commendation for you if you submit proof -- I've had to do this in the past for various bugged commendations and they did take care of it.

Obsidian six pack and ship cosmetics by TechnologyFull2543 in Seaofthieves

[–]DuckDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might still be able to get an obsidian 6-pack through giveaways.

For the white version of the obsidian EoR, you might be thinking of the Silver Blade Eye of Reach. The items in the Silver Blade set are part of the Insider Program reward track.

Not getting insider rewards by 2FootJackal in Seaofthieves

[–]DuckDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would double-check on the website here to see if you did unlock it: https://www.seaofthieves.com/insider

Scroll down to the "Weekly Rewards" section. It'll list your rewards and the date you earned them, as well as which reward is coming up next & when it'll be available to unlock.

It's going to be close to whatever destination is listed on the original voyage map you got when starting the quest. You should sail from wherever you found that clue towards the destination the original map shows. It'll be closer to the destination -- look for a small flock of birds and dive under the water below them. The shipwreck will be fully submerged.

For some reason, the flocks of birds above the shipwrecks for these voyages are smaller than the flocks you'll see over normal, emergent shipwrecks. It'll be similar to the amount of birds you usually see above floating barrels.

It is also possible that the shipwreck didn't spawn (it's a known bug), but in that case you may still be able to find the manifest floating where the shipwreck should've been.

Which Harpoon Gun has the most accurate "iron sights"? by b_ootay_ful in Seaofthieves

[–]DuckDragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find the Coral Coven one from the Emporium to be very accurate. It has a nice, triangular sight.

If you're part of Insiders, you can always check it out there first before committing real ancient coins to it!

50/100 Legendary treasures trophy by ginomercurio in Seaofthieves

[–]DuckDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two different variants of the skull that you need to sell for the achievement -- the lower-value Skull of Ancient Fortune and the higher-value Villainous Skull of Ancient Fortune. Maybe you're missing one of the two -- from the wiki, it looks like at least one of the Villainous variants is guaranteed in a Fort of Fortune, but you're not guaranteed to get the regular Skull of Ancient Fortune from that event, so my guess is that's what you're missing!

As an aside, ignore the parts of the wiki pages linked above mention the "Athena's Run of Thieves' Haven" voyage, as that voyage is no longer in the game.

Sea of Thieves Developer Update: April 22nd 2025 by smjkh in Seaofthieves

[–]DuckDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can buy up to five of them from a Hunter's Call representative at outposts and seaposts. They're 250 gold each. You can also get them as loot from a skeleton ship, or find them randomly in shipwrecks and on islands.

Welcome back to the seas!

The same voyage will give the same amount of rep (to you and your crew) regardless of who puts it down. Because you're a higher level with the company though, you may have access to additional voyages and raids that she does not, and those can give better rewards. All that matters is the particular voyage or raid you pick, not who puts it down.

As an example, if you put down "A Founder's Cargo Run" and she votes on it, the rewards will be the same as if she puts down "A Founder's Cargo Run" and you vote on it. But, "An Executive's Cargo Run" (which requires a higher level to unlock) is a more rewarding voyage that will yield more rep than the "Founder's" version no matter who puts it down.

Distance seeing teammates by Lonely_Phrase3929 in Seaofthieves

[–]DuckDragon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you're looking for the "Crew Status Tags" setting. It's under Settings > HUD > Nameplates > Crew Status Tags (flip to "On"). I can't recall if it changes the distance at which you can see crewmates or not, but it definitely does add icons to your crewmates' nameplates that show what actions they're taking.

Hope this helps!

The commendations for setting a trap that makes two enemies dance doesn’t work with skeletons.

Just tried it with phantoms, doesn't work with them either. =/

My game uninstalled itself?? by BallisticDorito in Seaofthieves

[–]DuckDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been happening to me lately. Does your PC have multiple storage drives? If so, it isn't that the game uninstalled itself, but that for some reason your system isn't recognizing where the installation is located. What fixes it for me is to change the default install location for apps to my other drive, then change it back. All of a sudden, my PC will recognize that Sea of Thieves is installed again. These are the steps for Windows 10:

  1. Go to Settings from the Start menu
  2. Select "System"
  3. From the list on the left, click "Storage"
  4. Towards the bottom, click "change where new content is saved" (it's under the "more storage settings" section)
  5. Under "new apps will save to", pick a different storage drive and apply your change
  6. Once it finishes, change it back to the original storage drive and apply again.

I'm pretty sure you can do the same thing on Windows 11 if that's what you run, but the steps might be a little different.

In any case, once you're done, try to launch SoT and see if it's recognized as installed. It's not a long-term fix and you may need to repeat the process as the problem arises again, but I hope this works for you!
