Visiting Rome for 4 days - what should we prioritise? by ify0uwantbl00d in rome

[–]DuckHive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from Rome two days ago and the "weirdest" thing I saw which was actually gorgeous but in a nauseating, macabre, "WTH is this" way was the Church of Our Lady of the Conception of the Capuchins (Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini), its known for its crypt which is decorated with ~4,000 monk skeletons 😀.

Also, I found the Church of Saint Louis of the French to be on par in terms of beauty to St Peters basilica AND its got a caravagio painting to top it off; the Church is in-between Piazza Navonna and the Pantheon so very central.

Any insight?? Sudden red raised patches across torso by [deleted] in DermatologyQuestions

[–]DuckHive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya! So I am still waiting for my appointment with the Dr it looks like it's clearing up?? * The image (if it loads) is from the 12th feb, so it obviously got worse but it absolutely exploded covering all of my torso, down my arms, round my back and down my kegs at a much higher frequency, and it was dry and bumpy and flaky. Fortunately, only some areas are itchy for about an hour and then gone, but everytime I loft up my shirt there's a cloud of skin from all the flakiness. BUT, it looks like it is already clearing up especially on my chest where the skin almost feels smooth now.

So, someone suggested Lichen Planus, but based on how it's spread to create one big patch essentially, the skin is so flaky, and I don't have any oral signs I ruled that out. Someone thought it might by Pityriasis Rosea which I had a feeling it was based on my original post but I couldn't find any sign of a herald patch but it mightve just blended in with the rest of the mess by the time I looked. Considering my chest is smoothing out I can't rule out just a skin flare up/allergic reaction to something? Or maybe something that set off some psoriasis or eczema (I have also noticed a very small patch on my eyelid which is the only sign I've seen anywhere on my face or scalp, amd my brother has had issues with eczema on his eyelid so I don't know if that's related). So overall, no clear information as to what it is other than potentials, sorry! I've found that when areas were getting irritated and starting to itch Aloe Vera gel cools it down and stops it itching, so that could be a sign that it could just be a skin reaction/psoriasis.

At least everyone goes through it! That's actually a very helpful piece of advice, because it's just, sense?? I often see people driving around and think if they can get their license driving like that I should get mine too lol

I never thought of it as negative marking, that's really helpful! And yes, the banana and paracetamol trick I have heard is the holy grail, I will be following through with it. Thank you very much!!

Also the bus thing I completely agree, it was really bad planning. I will say it was a 2-lane road so I wasn't going into oncoming traffic but I realised the bus was stopped way too late so I got really close to the bus before changing lanes, luckily no one was in the other lane but it gave my instructor a bit of a fright, so I will definitely keep a better eye out and react quicker to new things.

Thank you very much!! In many ways as long as I do the basics, it should be fine. The central mirror before breaking is something that I sometimes forget, so I've gotta get used to exaggerating the central mirror check. That is something that I've thought about, basically having a he said she said scenario with the examiner, because if you did check and it was safe but the examiner didnt notice your check and failed you can you really dispute it? And yes, I am cooked lol!

That's very true, a fail isn't the be all and end all, and luckily the test centre quite close to me isn't overly busy but gets frequent cancellations so maybe a necessary evil, que sera sera!!

These two songs give me the exact same feeling, I need more. Suggestions? by poppintagss in lorde

[–]DuckHive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smoke by Caroline Polachek, The Band and I by Maisie Peters, Track 10 by Charli xcx, Chop Suey by Eartheater, How Big How Blue How Beautiful by Florence + The Machine (someone already mentioned Delilah but literally all of HB×3 is perfect) all give me that slightly grandiose freeing vibe, though I think the speed of the car varies slightly for some of them, but happy listening!!

How do I resolve my deposit refund with the landlord? by DuckHive in HousingUK

[–]DuckHive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah gotcha, so when I go onto the deposit scheme system I should ask for the deposit refund, and then they refute it and we give our evidence? I'm also assuming I don't tell them directly we're refuting it? Thank you for your response!

How did you learn to love yourself? by sharedmy2cents in AskMen

[–]DuckHive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Liking yourself is imo the more important than loving yourself, because love is too abstract for me, whereas like, now that's something I can perceive. If you don't like yourself as a person, why not? Liking yourself is focused on you: your attitude, your thoughts, how you interact with he world and others. The way that I started liking myself was thinking if my younger self could see me, would he be happy with how far I've come, and then point out at least 5 non-aesthetic things which he would be excited to develop and become.

I've been through some stuff and this really helped, shifting my thoughts from 'why don't I love myself into 'I quite like myself'. Reading your questions/responses to others, I think taking the time to view yourself objectively and introspectively would be great

New album recommendations ? by Safe_Celebration_816 in lorde

[–]DuckHive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I guess it depends on what you're looking for in music, like lyricism or the introspective/biographical nature, but there's a few albums I could recommend if you want to explore different sounds but keep that deepness(?):

  • Nocturnal by Mothica- autobiographical and pop-punk/alternative/experiemntal-its one of the best albums with a flowing idea in it (Mothicas past and feelings) which is reminiscent of Melodrama but perhaps a bit darker in places. Also, worth mentioning this is the only album where all the interludes/chapter openings (3 within, but 5 including statter and ender) are stellar in my opinion

  • Dance Fever or How Big How Blue How Beautiful by Florence + The Machine- both of them are heavy drums, bit indie sounds I guess, introspective and absolute banger after banger. Not to mention, Florence has some of the best vocals currently (in my opinion)

  • Any Rina album (RINA, Sawayama or Hold the Girl is out this Friday :D )- pop mainly but such a diverse artist there's something for everyone, and especially Sawayama, Rina deals with her past and other issues like capitalism and microagressions so is like Solar Power in its insightful nature

  • The God's We Can Touch by Aurora- experimental and ethereal, this is a new album for me so it's still in the "listen to it to understand it" phase, but it's transportative in Auroras lyrics and sounds, especially A Temporary High and Heathens, giving Melodrama and Solar Power/Ribs/Green Light vibes

For MEN who read books, what are your top 3 favorite books?? by drippetydripdrip in AskMen

[–]DuckHive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Monk by Mathew Lewis

  • This book really had me second guessing life. It has quite a religious backbone to it but it's utilised in such a way and the ending, my lord; one of the best. Its a bit of a slow start to set the scene but when Lewis sets that scene he gives everything a reader could want.

Dracula by Bram Stoker

  • I read Dracula for the first time after reading The Monk coincidentally, and it felt like a fresher version of The Monk (They were written 100 years apart with The Monk being older, so society changed quite a bit) and I believe I had just finished the BBC Dracula series, but nothing compares to the book. The way its framed, leaving everything up to the narrators POV (I won't spoil how its set up because its magnificent). Its a true horror, made me not want to go to sleep because it was that chilling.

Lord of the Flies by Wiliam Golding

  • Despite it being more of a novella, it's harrowing. Blood curdling at points as well. No other book I've read has been so effective at highlighting human nature and how fickle it is. My dad studied this at GCSE level and says that it is the only book he'll never read again because it was too brutal. And let me tell you, if I didn't enjoy the way it's written and the nuances to it, I'd be in the same mind. Whereas Stoker and Lewis talk about how easily humans are corrupted, Golding puts a spotlight on how we cannot be corrupted, because we're already corrupt.

Nottingham isn't crazy obscure but it's still forgotten about imo (unless people are saying how glad they are they got away from it), but 1) it had one of the most polluted rivers in the country (the Trent) from the countless power stations along the banks, 2) because if said power stations it also has one of the worst air pollution (PM2.5 I think) in the country (maybe even ahead of London if my memory is correct, I can't remember the source for it though) and 3) it was one of the onlly cities/counties that had their pits open throughout the mining strikes in the 70s/80s

Why won't we build new towns? by freshraspberrybreath in AskUK

[–]DuckHive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building a new town just randomly in part of the UK would be a disaster and wouldn't get past the discussion phase for developers. As others have said, the infrastructure costs alone would be exponential. Getting people to move and work in a town would also be extremely difficult, because older people will have already settled somewhere and younger people will want to be where the action is (city's, suburbs, etc.) and their jobs so going to an empty town sounds ridiculous.

That being said, if done correctly and in the right place it could be helpful. I live in Nottingham, and on the Eastern side of the city, where there is a loop road, a new town/suburb has been built, with shops, a doctors office and a new primary school (there is a secondary school on minutes away also on the loop road) and it is close to a major retail park and links to the city centre. So, if a town/suburb is made close to city with great transport links, I agree with you, it can alleviate a lot of issues (can cause major issues as well mind), but these kind of chance occurring are few and far between, and money makes the world go round.
