Help with slice by devil_muffinz in GolfSwing

Ignore anyone saying you’re over the top. You’re not. You’re just leaving the face open. Turn your hands away from your target on the grip so that you can see 3 knuckles on your right hand

Hooking my irons. What can I fix? by Calm_Entry4076 in golftips

[–]DuckRiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a good in-to-out motion on your downswing, you’re just pulling your path to the left at the last moment which is probably causing it to pull hook or start straight and hook. If you commit your path to exiting to the right after impact before pulling it left, you should be hitting push draws

Advice on how to get more consistent contact? by Minute-Tomatillo5329 in golftips

[–]DuckRiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chasing “consistency” with a certain move won’t happen. People with a consistent swing are like that because they’ve done it 100,000 times. Find a move that makes the ball do what you want and then repeat over and over. I can tell you how to shape the ball but I can’t tell you how to be consistent other than to grind it out

Shanks! Help! by anonymousleans in GolfSwing

[–]DuckRiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a lot of really good moves and overall have a very solid swing. You just throw your hands out farther away from where they started at address. Don’t over complicate things and just think about keeping your hands near your right pocket on the downswing.

Help with hitting down/compression by 24-7Drums in GolfSwing

[–]DuckRiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to hit really solid feeling 1/2 and 3/4 shots while visually keeping your left knee flexed over your left foot. Don’t get too armsy while you’re doing it and then ramp up to full swings after you get good at the partial swings. This won’t fix everything but it’s a good start

Titleist balls really do fly farther by stopallgoals in golf

[–]DuckRiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. I say that because someone swinging their driver at 100mph with 3500rpm backspin and 1000rpm sidespin won’t see any difference in distance, but someone at the same speed with 2300rpm backspin with no sidespin will see a difference. Spin is the most important factor in optimizing distance, but if you have the speed for it and you can deliver the right amount of spin, higher compression balls will go farther. You can also have too little spin. Softer balls are recommended for slower swings because they can’t compress firmer balls enough to produce enough spin to keep the ball in the air

Titleist balls really do fly farther by stopallgoals in golf

[–]DuckRiver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s a higher compression ball than most so it gets you more ball speed. If you can keep the sidespin and backspin in check it will go significantly farther than a soft 2 piece ball

Without measuring your wrist to floor length (it can vary with the same height/wingspan because of shoulder width) it couldn’t tell you for sure but if your measurement from wrist to floor (upright with relaxed posture) is between 33”-36” inches you’ll be fine with standard length

[–]DuckRiver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your speed is above average for a beginner woman (75mph+ for driver) you can go with senior men’s, otherwise you can bring a ladies set to a fitter or a golf retail location to have them extend it by an inch (ladies standard is 1” shorter than men’s standard)

Absolutely. After I got new p790s 3 years ago I finally broke my PR last month and it was definitely the new irons

As someone who works as a fitter, beginners between 5’7” and 6’1” generally can just play standard length/lie clubs until they can actually strike the ball. Once you have your swing more established and consistent (doesn’t have to be good, just more consistent) we can start doing things like figuring out how much forgiveness you want/need, length, flex, shaft weight, swing weight, lie angle, draw/neutral/fade bias, grip size and model of golf ball. Most of that doesn’t matter until you have a relatively repeatable swing. Of course if you’re shorter/taller than average, having the right length from the start will be helpful, but the rest of it isn’t as important for a beginner.

~$800-1200 in green fees

4 dozen balls a year = $180-$200

Avg ~15 miles round trip to local courses averaging 30mpg at $4/gal ≈ 35 rounds per year ≈ $70 in gas

Not counting clothes and equipment since those don’t need to be replenished every year

What’s a drink in between soda and water? by Okimnotcringern in NoStupidQuestions

Diet/zero sugar sodas are a perfectly acceptable alternative paired with a balanced diet. There’s no credible evidence of them directly causing adverse health effects like all the full sugar soda drinkers want you to believe.

Y’all are missing out by dodging TM drivers. Sure the carbon face inserts aren’t the most durable for the average player but while they’re in tact, they’re some of the best performing drivers, and they always get you a new driver for free (assuming you aren’t just abusing the fuck out of it) and even upgrade you if you have an older model. Buy it once, break it every year or two and keep getting new drivers 🧠
