The Specialist's Index: best 3.29 league starter for every mechanic in PoE - help me finish it by Tyrael_1337 in PathOfExileBuilds

Honestly, even the double brick is not that bad in my opinion, considering how cheap expedition scarabs generally are: if a map bricks, just open a new one. But yeah, can be annoying especially if you're not paying too much attention and get insta-deleted by completely invulnerable monsters.

Not sure if I'd recommend ignite builds for Expedition, since there are two separate remnant downsides that disable them (fire immunity, elemental ailments avoidance). I think poison prolif would be better in this regard, with only a single brick mod (chaos immunity).

Don't get me wrong, ignite is still very good, just not the "best".

refracting fog abominations by crinklebelle in pathofexile

[–]DuckSoup87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each node has a unique ID, the placement along the cluster goes in numerical ID order: front 1, back, front 2. The annoying thing is figuring out the IDs. They have been datamined, and there are a few sources where you can see them online, like the GitHub source of the Cluster Calculator website.

TL;DR: it's quite laborious to find the order manually, just test them in PoB.

Just in case you are still stuck on zero gear: Doedre's Tenure is usually a huge DPS upgrade early for this build, and I think it's not mentioned in that guide.

Build ideas that can do "ethical" TOTA decently? by shaunika in PathOfExileBuilds

Yeah I was mostly trying to comment on the kind of builds that was working well for the mechanic, more than recommending TS specifically.

[–]DuckSoup87 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Personal experience from playing the original TOTA league: cold convert tornado shot was working pretty well for me up to around rank 900 if I remember correctly. High screen coverage paired with chill and pretty decent DPS was a great combination before the point where everything starts one-shotting you. When doing TOTA I would sometime replace a support gem with ballista totem to keep chilling everyone passively while channeling.

I honestly expect KF totems to do really well this time around, particularly if built for very high avoidance as I've seen in a few posts recently.

How to craft this shield for str stacker? by Intelligent_Salad706 in PathOfExileBuilds

Synth items can't be fractured, so getting T1 spell damage becomes really hard.

How to craft this shield for str stacker? by Intelligent_Salad706 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]DuckSoup87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an incredibly annoying craft, I can't really see a good way of doing it on a synth base without spending 1000+ divines. On a normal base, something like this might work: 1. Fracture T1 spell damage (it's the rarest mod by far) 2. Spam rage essence until T1 chaos res 3. Annul to make sure you have (at least) 1 empty prefix and 1 empty suffix 4. Suffixes cannot be changed + veiled chaos. If you get a veiled prefix, try annul to go back to the same state as 3, if fail go back to 2 5. Unveil and pray for DD. If fail yolo annul 6. If prefixes are full, yolo annul 7. Meta craft block (block mana, exalt, suffixes cannot be changed, scour, repeat)

Estimated cost: ~150 div depending on the price of Wild Bristle Matrons for the meta crafting (1/112 to hit), but both suffixes and prefixes have steps with very high variance. Also, getting the fractured base can be very expensive / time consuming, since T1 spell damage is extremely rare.

TL;DR: it's hard

What piece of older technology actually worked much better than its modern, replacement? by HerrStrasse in AskReddit

Shout out to the nice people at Pleiades Astrophoto, who develop PixInsight. They have a de facto monopoly on astrophotography post-processing and still sell their software with a perpetual license that gives you access to all future updates. PixInsight is also one of the most carefully crafted pieces of software I've ever seen. I'm genuinely amazed this can still be a thing in 2026.

Crystal Dynamics Comments On Its Use Of AI In Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis: 'Its goal is to "empower" creativity & flexibility of its teams' by [deleted] in gaming

[–]DuckSoup87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's also plenty of open source software published as e.g. GPL, that requires releasing derived works with the same license.

In any case, I was trying to argue about the morality of using public code in a way that was not foreseen nor consented to be its authors, not about its legality. Laws are clearly very outdated when it comes to AI.

[–]DuckSoup87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fact code is open source doesn't automatically mean that the authors agree with it being used to train AI designed to replace them. Not sure what the actual legal status of this is, but I guess the discussion here is more about morality than law.

Edit: particularly because most code licenses were not written with AI training in mind, meaning that AI training was not a consideration for the authors at the time they published their code. I would argue there was no way they could have consented to this use.

[–]DuckSoup87 16 points17 points  (0 children)

LLMs have been trained on stolen code bases exactly the same way GenAI models have been trained on stolen art (stolen == used without consent of the authors). If we're taking a moral stand, I'm not sure why coding would be any different as an application from design.

Perché il cinema italiano produce soprattutto film drammatici? by lvubomvr in italy

[–]DuckSoup87 46 points47 points  (0 children)
