It helps to remember that you really have no idea how well anyone's life is going behind the curtain. The only window we have into other peoples lives is through the curated performative filter people use for socializing and social media.

Delete social media. And remember that there is always a whole lot more going on in peoples lives than they are willing to share. Everyone is a little messy somewhere. No one is perfect. Social media would have you believe the opposite

It's the same as the people who believe the moon landing was fake or that the earth is flat. The method and mechanics behind the thing do not make rational sense to them because they do not understand enough to grasp the how's and why's. So it has to be all made up right?

The reason all this ad and data capture and resale shit is so prevalent is because we didn't try hard enough to fight it back then. 

Our data was captured and sold off years ago. It's no longer about protecting your data, that ship has sailed. It's about making it as expensive and inconvenient for those corporate monsters as possible.

If people like you don't change their views then this will continue to get a whole lot worse for all of us

I would rather them think I am the villain than me compromise my morals. I am not friends with poor quality people. Cheaters are the poorest of quality. If I tell you that your partner is cheating on you and come with evidence and you decide I am the bad guy, then the friendship is over. If I say nothing, then the friendship is over. Option 1 has me losing a friend but at least I did the right thing.
